the water board are digging up our street to replace the water main "what a mess" theres big piles of mud, clay, sludge in the road and today were without water, I WANT A REFUND! :)
Its amazing what you notice when stuck in the house bored off your tree.
for example:-
- The neighbours to the rear of me are infact a gay couple who are ......erm quite keen to get jiggy infront of window.
- One of my attached neighbours treats his missus like crap and potentially beats on her, but they are foreign and the type that believe women are sub standard.
-one of the houses across the roads has a lesbian couple, who unfortunately are not as open as the gay couple.
- The family in the detached house, they divorced and she moved her new man in, she is very hot but a complete psycho who likes to throw bricks through he own windows when her new boyfriend locks her out.

On another note there is an awsome film called 'Disturbia' you should rent it or download it......aswome film and semi relevant.
just noticed my posts sound rather dodgy.....I ould like to clarify that I dont sit perving on people with my camera HAHA.....purely observations when stuck at home looking at the view when ill

My name is Michael Caine and I'm a nosey neighbour ;-)
My neighbours arn't like this at all :(
And most of them are a lot lot older than us (middle age types) and seeing the saggy bums and boobs i think would be more of a disturbance than erotic
I want to see a couple doing it through a window, its on my "to do before 30" list  Not cos im a perv, i just wanna see it

Confession time then ... hands up if anyone has actually done it in a window?
I've done it in broad daylight ... as a train went past :-P PMSL! Now that was fun!!
And I've done it at night ... but the window in question that time backed onto a quiet row of gardens and a quiet side-street, so not much chance of being seen ...
And I'm sure you ALL really wanted to know that :D

You'll be lucky :( Two sodding weeks without water. Remembering the mantra "if it's yellow let it mellow, if it's brown flush it down", lugging two 20 litre jerry cans of water a half mile twice daily, taking washing and dirty bodies up to Leicester for a washing machine and a shower, dealing with nervous 17 year old recruits at watering stations faced with angry mobs resembling an Ethiopian food hand out. Compensation?? Nah, it's a natural disaster innit. If you consider Severn Trent's inability to understand that rain is wet, and that **** poor sewerage maintenance results in, well ****, flooding the streets to be natural. Oh and no contigency plans for flooding of a water treatment plant built on a flood plain. That level of incompetence is also natural. So, no compensation, 'cos it's natural innit.

+1 to that :(
bit like a woman on our local news who's house was burnt down when a firework went astray ... she wasn't insured, so she's lost the lot :( I know that we should all have insurance for this sort of thing, but I bet the insurance co probably would have wriggled out of that one, and I'm sure that judging by the look of her and the location, she probably couldn't afford the insurance :(

Kwak..let me know which water company it is...I work for a water company, I'll check on your rights with respect to an unplanned interruption in supply...

wish i had a job where i could surf the org in work time:(
Pedro68
16-11-07, 04:35 PM
well there's upsides and downsides to my job ...
upside is I can post on the org during the day (at the moment - may not always be the case) :)
the downside is, if I was off work after a crash on my bike, I don't get sick pay (self-employed) :(
that reminds me ... I need to look at those insurance policies for just that eventuality (just in case) ... otherwise, start saving my pennies :/

Kwak...
How long was the water off for? Did they do a letter drop to inform you of the works? Was an alternative supply provided? Bowser/bottles of...?

Yes, and in a car in daylight, and in a car by the side of a city road at night and on a quay side in the summer, and outside a 24hr Police station....... Guess I'm a bit of a deviant!

Thought the smell from sweat was bacteria?

Had this a few years ago and the water board did all the above!

Pretty sure that they get out of most obligations by sending the letter...the key is, was the letter specific about the shutoff times?
From memory I think that anything over 6 hrs and they have to provide alternatives...but I'll check.
If no alternatives were offered, I'd send the receipt in, with a claim for mileage and a small compensation request...
Chances are, they might know 20 quid off your bill...

£360 a year....less than 30 quid a month for water....I dont think thats bad value to be honest...
What time did it come back on in the end?

Yeah, they can get it done pretty quick nowadays, especially if they use a spray reliner, rather than slip lining with new pipe...
Sounds like they kept to their promise, although I'll check with colleagues in Yorkshire Water regarding the shutoff timescales..
Yeah, most water pipes are plastic now but some of the older pipes are fibre-cement, cement, clay, etc. Fortunately most water companies are good enough to do regular maintenance and do the works when most people are at work so as to minimize any disruption.
But you will always get the whinger and the "I want compensation" types (not referring to you kwak...you didn't have a whinge...just saying) who are never happy with anything and when something does something about it they whinge about disruptions...ho hum!

Just to be pedantic, I've never seen any fibre-cement, cement or clay water pipes - they cant withstand the working pressure or flexibility required for water pipes (not to mention the water quality implications from fiber cement / pitch fibre, sometimes asbestos). These are usually reserved for sewerage or surface water applications.
Most older pipes will be cast or ductile iron.

Correct...my fingers engaged before:smt075 brain
But the point I was getting at was that people often want things improved but then whinge when these improvements are made.

<Sigh>
I've just seen this thread and feel the need to share my disturbed and accidental, yet relentless and unavoidable voyeurism with you all.
1) I frequently am forced to collect the washing on a night to the tune of nextdoors daughter 'getting it on' with her current squeeze.
2) another neighbour gave me his computer to rebuild a while ago. I'm never checking to see if he has any personal 'data' on it he might want to keep again.
I feel like a third wheel in a dirty sordid sex triangle/rhombus (yeah, two triangles), yet powerless to say anything.
Thanks for listening.
-- I'm sorry to hear about your utility problems, by the way, however I feel that in a week or so you may have forgotten all about your inconvenience.
I however, will be scarred for life.
