I'd like a handheld database kinda thingy - something where I can just type in any old stuff, like ' keiths phone 0771....' or My IP 128.100.100.100' or a reg plate I see or maybe sync to the pc and grab a some documents - then be able to do a boolean search and get whatever data I need out again.
I used a Psion 3 for a while with limited success, it did exactly what I wanted but it bogged down when the pile of data got big, and the other thing I tried years ago was the Apple Newton - which would be fantastic if it had been upgraded to todays technology.
I have a hand held windows mobile Ipaq - which is completely useless. It takes ages to do anything at all, its more obsessed at trying to be a mini pc than being anything useful.
Just wondering if there is anything out there, thats simple, robust and actually does a useful job.
Seriously nerdy joke alert!
How many Apple Newton users does it take to change a lightbulb?
Faux, there to eat lemons. cold axe soup.
:D
Anyway enough hilarity, I have an XDA exec windows mobile phone thingy. Yes the operating system is poop but there are loads of apps written for this platform including some half way decent database programs. If you want beautiful useability then get an iPhone, write yourself a web app that will connect to an online data repository and allow you to add entries and submit queries.
Trace :)

My HTC wizard which is a PDA phone is not the fastest thing in the world but it will happy do all the stuff above and there are loads of apps for it. Also the old HTCs if you look about will run Linux if you want to try that and drop the windows stuff. The other option is a Palm, loads of models about and if you look about you can get a older model for under a ton and it will easy do all that you asked above.

Yes, I thought maybe palm might have something, or maybe psion. I figure anything that runs an op system foremost then an app will be a waste of time, like the ipaq, since I want it to go from off to useable in a second or two to be of any real world use. (as was the psion). Ideally mono as well, colour adds nothing of value.
