View Full Version : Rim Tape your thoughts? (poll)
The lone wolf and I have been discussing the fact that Rim tape is seen as Chavvy?
I'd like to know why its anymore chavvy than pimping the rest of the bike up with new exhausts, undertails, huggers, LED indys, DB Screens ect? Perhaps theres a chav in all of us!!!!

I like it, but not on every bike. I had yellow on my yelllow K4 and it looked good in my honest opinion.
Oh and my thoughts are that it's semi chav as customising the looks in any sense is abit chavvy in my eyes!!!

suppose it depends on the rest of the bike. If it is the only 'mod' then that can look great.
Saw a nice Gsxr with red rim tape( is that standard on model??) that looked good.

It simply looks crap, 99% is poorly applied

what about reflective rim tape?
surely that's like putting a day-glo bodykit on your nova?
:p
Superchav!
You can't say all modding is the same thing: changing an exhaust enhances the look and sound of almost all bikes, whereas "blinging" them up with rim tape, neon strip lights, colour matched anodised bolts and junk just make them look... well... chavvy!

Usually i am anti rim tape, but i think it can look good on some bikes. I think it looks good on slideshows bike as an example.
My bike has red lines around the wheels but its painted on as standard, so not chavvy. :)

Can be a nice touch on some bikes. Your R6 looks great with it, as do GP bikes that have it, like the Rizla suzukis.

If its been applied well and its a contrasting colour i.e red rim tape on black wheels as per the R6 above then it looks OK.
You put the wrong colour tape on certain wheels or with certain other colours of bodywork then its looks utter utter cack.

We used to sell tons of the stuff at hg, mainly as people messed up trying to apply it, usless bike came like it (from manufactor) then leave well alone

as of 08:24 15 people think it's "Semi chavvy" or "100% chavtastic" to 5 people who think it's "Not chavvy"
might have to start a "loud exhausts, are they chavvy?" thread:mrgreen:

No to rim tape, in any shape or form. Its always wobbly.
My dad used to know a guy who worked for rolls royce, painting strips around the rin of wheels for the cars. He'd take a wheel, stick it on a thngy, get it rotating quick, dip a thin brush in paint and put it on the wheel. 2 seconds, perfect rin strip. No wobbly-ness, no mis-matched tap sectors. This is potentialy passable.
I still think it wouldnt look good.
As for loud exhausts, they serve a purpose - to alert other road users to your presence, especialy in heavy traffic or when riding through a busy town center occupied by plenty of pedestrians on a subconcious suicide outing.

chavvy...wot exactly is chav?
i like LED's on a bike, so long as they are well placed and theres not too many of them they look good, more imporatntly they are very visible at night.
Rim tape, yep i like that too, thinking about luminous yellow for my blueK4.
so long as mods are done tastefully its all rosie...

Someones making sense, I'm not sure what makes it chavvy that's why I question it. As you say what is chav? Why does something that some people don't like define it as chavvy? Perhaps it just means "its different and I don't like it" :cyclopsani:
