Apparently Argos are distributing stock to their stores today, anyone trying to get one might want to check their local store for stock over the next few days.

EDIT >>>>

This was posted on a forum at 15:30 today... May also be worth a try.

I phoned Argos head office yesterday and they checked the stock for the Bletchley store in Milton Keynes. They reserved me one and gave me a reservation number. I had a text from Argos today saying your Nintendo Wii is ready for collection. Give Argos Head office a call and ask if they have any in stock and they will ask you where your nearest store is and they will check and reserve for you.

Wahay! Kids are gonna be so happy on xmas day!!!!!!http://www.hotukdeals.com/forums/images/smilies/santa.gif

wii is a the first console i have ever bought, been playing games for the last 20+years and mostly on the pc. the wii is a great bit of kit yes the games have a glossy shine thats enough to make most people puke but when you get past this you start to find the games are well written with good storylines and fantastic gameplay. and when it comes down to it, the amazing graphics of other machines on the market really dont matter at all if the gameplay is crap.

2 games dont make a consol worth buying!

Some games off the top of my head better than those for 360 (im a PC fan btw so dont really care). Halo 3, Gears of War, Moto GP 07, Quake 4, need for speed, Project gotham racing 4... The games are mostly childish on the wii, parents think thats what kids want. Pff not for me.

PC is the best imo. :D

Resident Evil 4 is the exception to that rule. I bought a GC solely for that (I subsequently only bought 2 other GC games). Resi 4 is probably my favourite game of all time. Huge replay value too; try getting 5 stars in The Mercenaries for all characters. I managed it last week after playing the game for the best part of 3 years! The Wii version is the best by a long way too. In spite of having played it to death on GC, I have just bought the Wii version.

i went from playstation to xbox and mod'd it with the xecutor 3 chip put a 120 gb hard drive in it which holded about 42 games then got a new PC for making a project studio on ended up making a duel boot (2 operating systems) machine one drive for studio and the other for a games machine its got a 3gig dual core cpu 2gig of memory and a radion sapphire X1950PRO video card and it can kick any console ass, didnt think much of PC gaming untill i tried it a keyboard and mouse for FPS games is like being there rather than a game pad still use the pad for racing games

Yea Keyboard and mouse is so much better for FPS games!

What CPU you got at 3GHz?

I built a game muching machine about a year ago now, other than the GFX card (x1950XT) which is still capable of playin crysis on med settings its still Very good machine. Might have to get a new ATI 3870 GFX card soon though.

Ya see, this is why consoles are more popular than PCs ...

Console games are written for ONE set of hardware (per console).
PC games are written for the fastest available graphics cards, which many people don't have, and so they have to "restrain" the software to enable it to run on their own hardware ... but Joe Public couldn't really give a monkies whether "Death-Crisis-Halo-6-We're-All-Doomed-Quaking-in-our-boots" runs on their particular hardware or not! They want to see "Runs on PC" ... what they get is "System Requirements" which is then split down into a half-dozen numbers and TLA's (three letter acronyms) which most people don't understand or can't remember if their PC comes up to scratch ... and now software manufacturers are starting (or have been for a long time) to put "minimum requirements" and "recommended requirements" on packaging (which IMO is a good idea, but then I consider myself PC-savvy - not everyone is).

So no wonder the consoles are more popular when all you have to do is go into a software store and look for something that says "PS2" or "XBOX360" on it ;-)

Personally, I think it's gr8 that you can upgrade PC's to keep pace with software advancements, but it's not for everyone ;-)

The only reason i will be upgrading is so the games look as good as they can. It is similar to a person upgrading from the xbox to the 360. The same games still come out for both but they look better on the 360...

A modern game will still run on a PC 3 years old, its just the setting will have to be lower. Same as a modern game runs on a new (ish) Console.

You see a lot of games are written for PC's not consoles, the game has medium to low settings for consoles and low spec PC's and the higher settings to take advantage of the newer PC's power, they are the same game, just PC one will look better. (I'll admit it is still easier to buy the console version because you know its deffo gunna work - or should :p).

You see without the PC the console would be Dead in the water for MANY MANY reasons. Where do you think the next Gen Console components will come from? So all these people who openly say Consoles are better they should be careful

Not dissin ya decision to upgrade ... to those that can, I say "go for it", there's nothing more satisfying than playing the latest game on the latest graphics card (it's just a few years since I've done that ;-) LOL)

A modern game will still run on a PC 3 years old, its just the setting will have to be lower. Same as a modern game runs on a new (ish) Console.

So low sometimes as to make the game almost unplayable (and even more so online).

That kinda demonstrates the point I was trying to make ... the games developers only have to consider (and test) ONE lot of hardware for Playstation2 ... but for PC ... how many different possibilities are there?!?
Questions you find yourself asking (as a PC owner) are, what resolution can I run this game at? How many fps will I get? and will it still be "playable"? Will I have to drop the colour depth down? ... can I get away with playing this with only half a gig of RAM? Console owner don't give a stuff about that lot. The only question is "Will it work?" and the answer should be "yes" or the games company shouldn't be releasing it! LOL

I have never claimed that consoles are better than PC's ... however the PS3 contains some pretty impressive hardware (cell processor), but it can still be beaten by some top-end PC CPU's ...

But, if you walk into most software stores (Game, Gamestation, etc.) these days, you will see wall-to-wall console games ... PC games appear to be shoved on a shelf at the back of the store. The same goes for the supermarkets that sell games. So the BBC's assertion that PCs are more popular than consoles doesn't wash IMHO and IME.

If you look at the current games Top 40 too ...
14 of the top 40 titles are for PC ... that's less than half.
Only 13 of the titles don't run on what I would consider the latest consoles (360, PS3, Wii) and most of those 13 titles are for the DS anyway (which is just a hand-held console!).

So I think the BBC's arguments (and mine) may require more in-depth analysis ;-)

Yea, it is good. TBH ive always been a step behind, spending £400+ on a 8800Ultra just is silly imo.

So low sometimes as to make the game almost unplayable (and even more so online). I think a problem with this is that people buy cheap PC's that are supposed to just go on the internet. If they bought a true gamers PC itll play a modern game at 3 years old.

Yes, but now that the consoles are online they are taking short cuts, as they can now patch it. not good for those without internet i agree! Pretty disgusting tbh. But this might be a stunt to make people get Xbox live etc .

I have never claimed that consoles are better than PC's ... however the PS3 contains some pretty impressive hardware (cell processor), but it can still be beaten by some top-end PC CPU's ...

Oh man the modern quad cores punch them in the head. A cell processor is basically 7 crap CPU's stuck together, all it means is that any processing needing doing gets broken down into several parts so each cell can work slower because it has less work to do to achieve the same task as one really fast core. So now that there are chips with 4 Fast core's with each core being able to handle a full process by its self you see why cell tech is kinda useless. This is also why the 360 with 3 any purpose cores is so much more powerful than the PS3 with its cell's(dont let sony fan boys or properganda persuade you otherwise!)

Thats because any self respecting PC gamer buys it online at upto 50% cheaper ;). Also a lot of PC gamers are these MMORPG players... which are obviously subscription games with the client being downloaded. World of Warcraft is MASSIVELY popular!

Oh and I found my Doom Disk the other day :D LMAO

The only trouble with buying a top-notch gaming PC is that it costs almost TEN TIMES more than a games console, and has half the life-span of a gaming console (that's assuming you don't upgrade it beyond recognition ;-) LOL)

I love my Wii and whilst my 10 year old daughter mostly plays it, when you have people round there's nothing more entertaining especially with a mixed crowd - everyone that's come round likes the bowling and tennis. Mario Galaxy is good too. It not like you can pull out PGR4 or Halo 3 and keep it sociable with the rest.

It's good for more social occassions but I would keep the 360 if I could only have 1 console. PC's are so expensive and unless you know what you are doing the myriad of choices just stumps you. Console any day for me.

Wii's are good fun, The good lady bought one for my christmas, but had to tell me about it when i went to buy one for the kids! Got a few pc's (Dad's gamer & normal for wife/kids) PS2 & PSP's, DS's etc and the Wii has went down a treat with the kids, they love it.. and are still trying to beat the parents ;) Bought Metroid for myself and find it pretty mad to play waving arms about instead of moving a mouse! Graphics are not the best for obvious reasons, but still good enough to get into the game and ejoy it.
Nothing better than some of yer mates on the phone the day after a few beers saying they are in agony

RE4 is definitely one of the all time best games. I've finished the main game and 'Assignment Ada' (Ada in black combat gear - very sexy!). I'm playing 'Separate Ways' at the moment. Haven't really bothered with Mercenaries yet. Got 5 stars in the Village, but not tried any of the others yet.

The graphics are pretty awesome for a supposedly 'low power' machine costing only £180. Obviously they're not up to 360/PS3 standards but they're nothing to complain about. The main selling point of the Wii is that it's just so much fun to play. The controller works brilliantly with FPS games like Metroid. I used to build my own PCs for gaming, but I'm far happier now with a Mac for general use and a Wii for games than I was with my Windows and Linux PCs.

Well I gave up on PC games a few years back when I ditched the desktop in favour of a laptop. So I don't doubt that you'd be able to "woop" me on that one.

Actually, one of the best EVER gaming experiences I've ever taken part in is this ...

Every Sunday afternoon, me and about 8 mates from work used to meet up at a local gym. Every one of us would turn up with PC, monitor, mouse & keyboard. Then we would set our PC's up on a purpose built "bench" that was capable of seating/housing around 16 players + PCs. The bench had an ethernet hub screwed to one end. Network card in PC, cable it into the hub and away we went ... 8 vs 8 (versus 8 guys from the gym) on UT team tournament ...

The best part about it was sneaking up behind an opponent (or just lying in wait) and then blasting them with a rocket launcher (or other suitably destructive weapon) ... but the best part about that was that you not only got the satisfaction of blasting AN opponent to smithereens ... but you got to HEAR & SEE their reactions ... as some player on the opposite team threw up his arms and shouted "Aaaaarrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhh" :D

In gaming terms, it just doesn't get any better.

I've played UT online and it's just not the same ... it's very good mind, but not the same ... and it became almost unplayable when you got onto a server that contained players with such highly specced PC's that their "ping rates" (nothing to do with our illustrious moderator :D) were so low that you could fire a shot at them and before the grenade/bullet/rocket was halfway to their torso, they could dance behind you and blast you in the back :( it's no fun at all when it's like that.

Anyway ... not exactly anything to do with the Wii availability but there ya go ;-)

I'd pretty much 100%'d the GC one, Separate Ways is the only new bit for me, but I'm playing through that at the moment. Very clever the way it elucidates the story. I'd often wondering if Ada's story was ever going to be revealed (the GC version doesn't have this mode, although it has Assignment Ada); it's almost as if it was planned all along.

If you get 5 stars with all characters in The Mercenaries (extra characters are unlocked by getting at least 4 stars on each level), you get my favourite (although not actually the best in terms of killing people) weapon, the hand cannon. It's like the Magnum guns, but an extreme version (more recoil, slower reloading/fire rate, much more damage). 800,000 buys you all the upgrades for it, which leaves you with an infinte ammo one!

Macs are definately the way forward. It's nice to have a computer that just works. I spent the whole of last weekend fixing a PC, clearing it of a nasty rootkit and spyware (murlo was one) that wouldn't load the computer in normal boot mode to then find that windows update cocked up so it wouldn't load in safe mode either. fun fun fun. Why aren't PCs loaded with decent firewalls and anti-thisthatandtheother? It's ridiculous to plug a vulnerable computer in to the internet to download updates and files to protect it. It's too late!
