Depends what you're doing with it.

If you want it to sit on a desk and look pretty, the Sony.

If you want to actually carry it around and use it, the Tosh.

Sony laptops always seem pretty flimsy to me. Mind you, personally I wouldn't buy anything Sony, it's overpriced, overfeatured, poorly built tat most of the time.

I won't make any comment about whether or not buying on the high street is a good idea.

The Sony ... purely for the fact that it has a bigger HDD and the screens on the Sony's are fantastic (the X-black ones) :D

Hard to say without knowing what you are planning on using it for... So what are you using it for?

Or, if HDD space is very important to you, an external USB HDD on the Tosh will provide space and portability, and still be about the same price as the Sony.

I've never liked Sony stuff, I have an irrational dislike of it though it always seems over priced for what it is, but it does look bling !!

Out of those two I'd get the Tosh. Probably going to be more reliable and portable, if you want a desktop just get one.

Is there anythign equivalent by either HP or Compaq never had any trouble with their stuff and its what we use at work and I've always found them first rate.

And I thought I was the only one :smt057

My dislike is entirely rational, I think... I just hate the way Sony stuff their products full of technology and gadgets and gizmos which all do their thing adequately, whilst not actually making any single bit of their product do its thing excellently.

Sony always seems to be the lazy option, all things to all people. Does everything OK but nothing really well.

i haven't opened the links, but i'd take the toshiba, because the other one is a sony...

i had a vaio laptop once, it spent half it's life working intermittently, and the other half being "repaired" by sony's incompetent morons

never again...

Whatever you do don't buy a dell laptop - they are poo.

I use a HP Compaq NC6320, it is a really nice (useable) machine. The downsize is that it hasn't been designed to look nice but then who cares.

Out of the 2 it would be the Tosh all the way.

If you want bling get a Mac Book (dual core) and a copy of parallels and run both XP and OSX together and change from one OS to the other with having to reboot!!!

http://www.parallels.com/en/products/desktop

Needs a decent amount of Ram though.

Im guessing running two OS's will also make playing games even more difficult for the poor poor laptop :(

Have you thought about Acer's? Mines still going strong (touch wood) - and I'd buy another.

check ebuyer.co.uk for bargains too...
