Does he change colour?

Yeah he does, changes between brown and green depending on what he's sat on, quite a big colour difference to.

Thats a miss conception that they change colour to the things they are sat on, they only change colour to suit their mood. Sometime the colours they normally are is just simply from their natural surrounding's.
Your probably find that brown means he's in a bad mood, and greens a good mod, but I'm sure your find out in time depending on how much he hisses at you.

A friend of mine has one too- though I don't know if it's the same breed. He's ace, tongue like gene simmons. They release live locusts into the tank to feed him, fantastic to watch. And his feet are ace too. (they've got a crazy rainforest-in-a-tank thing, with a fishtank in the bottom, assorted climbing plants etc up the back wall, spray misters to create rain... Absolutely brilliant.)

Course, they did once have a mass locust escape, that was probably less brilliant

I used to have a tail less whip scorpian at work - that used to eat locusts too. Used to sit there trying to coax the locust into her path, but she would always miss them and eat when no-one was about.

we've had the occasional cricket/locust escapee, but they're only little and generally we see them scuttling across the living room floor and just pounce and retrieve them.

However there was one cricket that went AWOL for ages, it grew and grew and finally got big enough (eating what???) to make cricket type noises in the house ALL OF THE TIME :smt013 and yet we still couldn't find it. After several weeks of torture it turned up in the broom cupboard and was HUGE ugghhh! had to set it free as by that time it was bigger than our lizard!

ours is a bit shy on the eating/pouncing in public too. closest i've got is hearing a noise and seeing the gecko sitting there motionless and all innocent-like with locust legs sticking out of its mouth!

Yeah Liz has been feeding him Locust's she's seen him take a locust already quite a few times, its really really cool. She's setup a dripper to simulate rain and he sits under that taking drops of water of the leaves and sometimes directly. I thought he'd be a bit boring but he's hugely entertaining.

Y'see, people thought it strange, but this is why I had exotic pets - it's like having the Discovery Channel for real.

I started out with Annoles (tiny lizards) that are kind of the reptile pet equivalent of a hamster... don't live that long but fascinating to watch -- especially when you have a viv with five females and two males and large enough for them to have two distinct territories. Their displays were really cool, as was watching members of the harem change sides!
I found that I'd got their environment just right when I discovered eggs one day when cleaning them!:smt103
I didn't dare move them, so left them until they hatched then caught the youngsters and let them grow up safely in a separate viv. They were no bigger than your thumbnail at first and yet with perfect little claws n scales etc. Soooooo cute. ;)

Over the years I've had:
Annoles
Ozimandias the Royal Python (who only recently died of old age :().
Malachai the Chile Rose Tarantula (still got one of her shed skins in a box, well cool).
Mephisto the Green Iguana (who beat up my dog when he was a pup, loved sitting on top of the curtain rail, as well as climbing the curtains to get there... oh yeah... and chicken curry!)

I babysat a Yemen Chameleon for 6 months whilst a friend toured the world... aparently their vision is movement based (yeah yeah, like the T-Rex in Jurassic Park ) which is why they need a drip or similar for drinking water. This one had a tube into his water bowl that blew bubbles - the movement of the surface let him actually 'see' the water was there to drink.
Also never realised their grip is so strong, to deal with the recoil from that tongue, that you can actually break their bones if you try to forcably remove them from their perch.

Yeah - I'm nerd.

But a Discovery Channel nerd, so that's OK...

... isn't it?!

LOL... I used to feed our bearded dragon crickets too, but kept losing them.. had chirping noises for ages... finally found them at last in the rear speaker amp! 5 of them, had to take the amp apart to get them, reckon they must have been attracted by the heat or something!!

I heard those lads are really tricky to keep. Good luck with him...

Us Tims need to be pampered, fed only the best fresh food, kept nice and warm and allowed to play.

I resist the urge to comment on some of the naughty posts above.I just don't know where these people are coming from:confused:

Please to meet you fellow Tim

He's in a specialised Vivarium, its made out of a cloth mesh so he still gets air flow around him, but so that he can't and neither can his food escape. Cloth mesh is better than glass as they don't like and can get startled by their own reflection. They like a quiet place so he's in the spare room as they dont like loud noises etc etc.

He has a UVB light on top to simulate daylight and a seperate light to create heat and provide a basking spot. This gets changed a night to ceramic bulb that only gives out heat.

He seems no trouble at all, apart from hissing at me yesterday when I put some crickets in for him to eat, he has a dripper for a water source and he has plenty of fresh plants and sticks to clamber over and hide in amongst.

He's Liz's pet though she did all the research and made sure he had all the things he needed.
