View Full Version : Wii Haters club
just thought id find out if theres anyone else on here that carnt understand why people are buying Wii consoles when theres not only PCs but PS3s and 360s i couldnt help but convey this in the Wii thread but got a bit of a slaggin from the more serious people on the site. anyone else that doesnt believe the hype about the cartoon console outthere
Is it anywhere near as powerful as a PS3? No
Is it as powerful as a tricked up PC? No
Is it the only console you can shove in the middle of a house party and have people actually engage with each other over and have a laugh rather than taking it seriously? You betcha.

They're a bit of fun, but only a novelty IMO. PS3 in the Jan sales for me I think :)
Biggest annoyance- going to a party with the owner of the wii:
'go on have a go'
'no'
'go on its fun'
'I've done it before'
'but it's funny'
'the first time'
'go on!'
'I'm going for a wee'
i was lucky enough to get a PS3 given through work but still carnt afford the games at least until they bring out a mod for it lol

Why be so childish as to hate something that's good fun?
PC gaming - been there, done that, spent a fortune constantly upgrading graphics cards, processors, motherboards etc. Can't be arsed with that anymore. I've switched to Mac and really don't want a Windows PC now.
360 - Too ugly for my living room, unreliable and doesn't have built-in wireless networking.
PS3 - Twice the price of a Wii. Might get one in a year or two if they bring out a cheaper 'slim' model like the PS2.
Wii - I love the controller, graphics aren't bad (better than last generation, though not as good as 360/PS3), cheap and reliable. But the really important thing is that the games are great fun to play. That's why I bought it and it delivers fun in spades.

Heh way to point out the obviously intended pun? :)
I like wiis, I like Mario games, they are fun games, I like fun games. Wouldn't buy one though.

They've already released a budget PS3; the 40Gb model. I wouldn't hold your breath for a slimline model! They aren't actually that big already.

nintendo never release the most powerful consoles, but for me they always have the most entertaining games, especially multiplayers

its too late for you now your in the Wii haters club lol
wheres Richie to get the fans out of the haters club then eh?
i dont think it is really possible to hate anything that is fun and this thread was not to be taken too serious but nintendo would win me over if they made a console for adults and not just pictuary retards n kids lol come on put em up put em up, you have to be half cut to enjoy the wii those bigheaded charactors just make it look like a fisher price toy
me neither but i dont think i was the market they where aiming at, they won most of the awards at the Bafta for gaming too but ive never been one to follow what others like i much prefer a cult thing

They haven't really released any good games yet, it's fun but repetitive. The don't even have any good titles to look forward too.
PS3 is outselling the Wii in Japan ;)
(anyone noticed they secretely discontinued the 60Gb PS3?)

If you think you hate the Wii, imagine how much you'd hate the PS3, it costs a few pennies more than that!:smt077

Aye, my mate in Germany got mine for me. Should have got half a dozen - could have made at least £50 each on 'em.

Nintendo have made so much noise in the press about their dwindling supplies; yet most of them seem to be on ebay!

SH!T i could build a quad core 2gb of ram PC for that with a X1950 pro video card in which will blow any console away and youve got a great PC too

Like the IBM-Compatible/derivative based Personal Computer? Can't get much more 'cult' than that... after all, there's only 1billion* of them in use.

From scratch (case, psu, drives etc -not monitor though), you could build a PC that is more powerful than a PS3 for under £300? I'll be scrapping this archaic piece of junk in the new year and chucking another one together, so if you could point me to the sort of stuff I should be looking at I'd be grateful. I know there's info on the 'net, but there's almost too much, just get lost in opinions and adverts.

No you couldn't. Unless you're using used parts. £150 for a Q6600 alone, £70 for the card, £30 or so the RAM if you cut corners, and some older motherboard that'll waste the CPU's potential- no case, PSU, keyboard, mouse, screen, or drives.
Just to chip in here as a console/gaming person since the early 90's I think the wii as a console is a success for several reasons...
Firstly Nintendo themselves are making profit on every single one they are selling, unlike the competition who are making big losses.
Secondly this console appeals to 4-5 year olds up to 80 year olds, I proved this as I got my family playing the wii and they actually managed it and not doing bad. I've never had something do that before bar pacman or tetris early on, a console that everyone can play and have fun with like Jambo mentioned.
Thirdly this console is innovative which appeals to me, Apple are a good example of releasing cool gadgets like the ipod and then suddenly this becomes the norm. Nintendo have always been innovative, the d-pad, the shoulder buttons, the analog stick, rumble, motion sensing. You may argue these things appeared elsewhere before hand but Nintendo brought it to the masses and made it good.
If Nintendo suddenly jumped on the console arm race then they would following the trend like the ps3 and xbox360 which merely added some more features, improved the speed and graphics and wrap it up in a nice package, not straying too far away from the norm as they are afraid of losing profit margins.
Fourthly the games rely on gameplay and not graphics, all I hear about the new consoles is how good the games look and on a HD TV, they look awesome. Ok thats all good, we all like good looking games but if the game plays naff then whats the point, if I asked people to think of their best game played I bet you its something like street fighter 2 or half life etc. Not very detailed games now in the world of HD but the gameplay was immense and its what everyone remembers.
Now im not completely blinded, the other consoles have some good features, the full HD and nice graphics look great if you have the HD TV of course and the online features of the xbox360 is great, thats one of the best features and is something every console should and is adopting. Also theres no denying they have some really good games and im sure many christmas days will be sat infront of them for many people.
Also don't forget the PC, on the PC I can upgrade and constantly improve it to be better than the consoles, I can actually type and talk to people properly, I can play FPS games and RTS with a mouse and keyboard which imo is impossible to beat compared to a joypad or wii remote.
For me the trend is PS3 and XBOX360, the cool one, the one every cool kid wants because its the most powerful and plays all these new formats and has HD.
The wii is the one appealing to everyone and trying not to be anti-social and more importantly further the gaming market and get it out of this locked in arms race.
Open your eyes and don't be so blind-sided, ultimately all consoles have good points and bad points and ignoring it as a kids console is short sighted. Its like people saying the SV is a learners bike.
At the end of the day its a console in a couple of years people will be onto the next one and raving about that, people have the right to make up there own mind and decide for themselves. I know people who aren't fans of the wii but they don't go around stomping there feat declaring the wii rubbish, they just say its not for them and move on.
