Gear Problem

howdy folks,
i have recently developed a problem. third gear has dissapeared changing up or down.
its like changing into neutral without fail every time. i can change up rom 2nd and up again into 4th with 2 clicks and the same on the way down.

anyone have any ideas whats going on?

If you can't see any obvious problems by removing the clutch assembly and inspecting the shift cam segment (star-shaped thingy on end of shift cam), shift cam stopper lever and spring, and shift shaft, I'd be wondering if splitting the crankcases were the next step to find the cause.
