I've got a rattle can of satin black. (usually goes on the dents on the tank and for numberplate duty)

It'd be an improvement! :p

Expect about 125 out of it flat out, and some decent neck muscles if you do that for a while, nekkid bikes have the aerodynamics of a brick.

Gra
27-11-07, 03:29 PM
I wanted a black bike for that 'Darth Vader' look.

I'll be plodding along at an easy pace when I've passed.

I was overtaken by an old lady in a Honda Civic on my CBT.

Evening!

My top tip is to remember to cancel the indies.

Draper
27-11-07, 08:54 PM
yes! specially when pulling over and stopping, dont leave em on left and then remember to turn em on right, then turn em off again!

what else was a biatch for me? erm... look out for 20's! that failed me one, had the give way bits in that alternate in priority, so couldnt go fast, was probably going 25, but its a fail. although it meant i got better at riding before i passed my test so wasnt too fussed

also if the examiner says a direction, as long as you do your manoevre safely it doesnt matter if you went the wrong way to what he said (this could possibly be used for a cheaty on a big roundabout or something)

Gra
27-11-07, 09:27 PM
Oh yes! A chap in work informed me of the indicator scenario.

I am going to try and treat it like another lesson. Keep a cool head etc. Nothing worse than having to re-book it for a month or two down the line.

Thank you for the advice!

Hi, I did my test at Noriss Green too... still remember the DAS lesson when I was first shown the way to the test centre... lovely ride, hardly any chatter from the instructor then just as I turned off the East Lancs road he came on the radio with the welcoming words "Welcome to Beirut".

First set of red traffic lights, group of kids "Hey Mr how fast can it go?".
Second set of red traffic lights, another group of kids "Hey Mr can you do a wheelie?".
Third set of red traffic lights... buggered if I'm stopping on red any more.

Must admit its the first time I've seen a test centre with gun turrets and a fortified entrance!

Enjoy your test, just keep the bike in gear for a quick getaway at all times.

Good to see somebody else has witnessed Norris Green! I went around there and Kirby yesterday. Witnessed what seemed to be a woman being dragged out of a tarted up Corsa to be questioned/arrested at a set of lights. Plenty of cars beeping and looking a tad annoyed and me thinking 'what do I do?'. Great fun.

It was either Norris Green or Wallesy for the test. Not really familiar with the Wirral so glad I got Norris Green.

6 days until the test. Cacking myself to be honest!

mikew
30-11-07, 08:42 PM
Just remember to relax on the test. What time is your test? There's a couple of bus lanes on the route and they are only part time bus lanes - you have to use them outside those hours otherwise you can get failed for being in the outside lane.

Also when you come off the east lancs roundabout it drops to 30mph all of a sudden but the locals have painted out the sign, another reason for failing.

Another one to watch out for is 3.30 when the school lets out... it's almost impossible to get down that road because of all the busses, speed bumps and suicidal kids BUT you need to show that you are making good progress.

Hopefully your instructor will have pointed out all the local traps on the route.

Mike.

Gra
30-11-07, 08:51 PM
Not sure of the time of the test. Afternoon I think? The kids had just got out when I was out yesterday. Plenty of buses as well!

From what I have been told I have been missing some lifesavers around roundabouts. Getting there now though.

There is a trap I know of around that way. Right at a set of lights there is a right turn and if you indicate too early you will apparently get a minor for it. I saw it though so that's good.

Thank you for the advice Mike. Much appreciated.

Blimey Norris Green! Old college pal was from there, hubby is from Waterloo. Good luck with the test, remember to make progress when safe - on a dual carriageway make sure you get to 70 if clear. Don't pull off first if you are in the inside lane at a traffic lights. On the emergency stop make sure you mirror AND shoulder check both sides. Don't use the back brake on your emergency stop to make sure you don't skid.

Alternatively, ignore me cos I am drunk :smt042

Witchery I used to live in Wallasey - in fact that's where I took my driving test. It's not so bad compared to other places. But I'd stick to somewhere you are familiar with.

Having said that, I took my bike test in Chester, and I wasn't "over familiar" with the place before that.

As for Liverpool - used to have to drive thru the city (just down Edge Lane, or West Derby Road, and/or Queens Drive), moved to the city (Ford), spent some time working in the city (Knowsley), but mostly now I drive back thru the city to get to Wallasey to go visit family n friends.

Don't know Norris Green at all really tho! LOL

But, I wish you the best of luck for the test ;-)

I work in Wavertree, so Edge Lane is just around the corner. Only takes about 15 minutes to get to work from where I live now, so the bike is more for pleasure use!

Gra
11-12-07, 12:19 PM
I had the test last Thursday, and I passed. Made up. The only annoyance is, is that I have got to get parking sorted. Waiting on a fob for the undeground parking at my place. Until then, the bike is at my Dads not getting used very much :(

mikew
11-12-07, 08:03 PM
Congratulations - well done :)

If you see a blue SV sport on Edge Lane or going through Wavertree in the mornings give a beep, it's probably me. Lol. I live near St Helens but work in Liverpool city centre.

Mike, I think I've seen you on a few occasions and think we've probably exchanged "nods" in the past as about a year ago I was travelling down Edge Lane in the opposite direction to you as I was heading out towards the M62 ... on that copper pointy in my avatar ... however these days I'm living in Liverpool and heading down the M57 of a morning on my way to Macclesfield (although more usually in the cage due to the weather LOL)

mikew
12-12-07, 02:04 PM
Pete, quite probably me. Small world isn't it?

It won't be me parking on the tech park tho but I do occasionally cut through it if Edge Lane is busy. I work right in the centre of Liverpool.

Doubt that one was me mate, think I can get from home to work without the aid of a map - lol.

Mike, small world indeed :)

Witchery (Graham?) wouldn't have been me either m8 ... if I can't figure where I am or where I'm going in Liverpool I ask the missus - she has lived and worked in Liverpool all here life so if I ever get lost I phone her. Not had to phone her too often tho ;-) and I never carry a map around with me on the bike anyway :)

Gra
12-12-07, 03:17 PM
Oh well. Must just be a mystery bloke then.

Long shot I know, but do any of the Liverpool lot know of anywhere in the city centre I could parkthe bike overnight that is secure? Aside from the car parks?

Graham.

Pedro68
12-12-07, 03:21 PM
Nope ... I don't know anywhere personally, but will ask the missus later on (although she doesn't ride so she probably won't have a clue either! but it can't hurt to ask).

Personally, I'd be trying to find a friend who lives in the city centre and has a garage that isn't being used ;-)

Gra

No worries.

That's the thing. I have secure underground parking that I cannot access. Blummin' infuriating!

I should have thought anywhere in Liverpool would have ok overnight :rendeer: eh Pedro ? ;)

I should wait until somebody opens the shutters, wait until the last second and valiantly slide myself and the bike underneath.

Yes of course ... I mean, looks like our shed got broken into last weekend, but they must have been targetting push-bikes as nothing was taken. The SV is parked in the side garden (in full view of the shed) and that wasn't touched either ... unless I crash, in which case they nicked something vital that could have prevented it ;-)

Besides ... looks like all the crooks will be busy targetting football players homes whilst they play in away matches so ya bike should be safe

I should wait until somebody opens the shutters, wait until the last second and valiantly slide myself and the bike underneath.
You disappoint me ... I was thinking more along the lines of jumping the fence ON THE SV :D LOL

Gra

I suppose I could do that. Requires a fair bit of effort like :)

Plus I may damage my Mirror-ball all in one suit.
