View Full Version : NEC birmingham-great but i got ****ed off by 1 remark
ok all, listen here.
I have to say this because it’s really got to me …………….
NEC Birmingham, I went there on Monday with my daughter and looking around all the new BIKE stands I came across VECTRIX ELECTRIC SUPER_SCOOTERS
OK I looked and the lady was saying, no road charge, very little tax blah blah blah….
Its not what I really want….but was pleased that there was a bike with no pollution .
But as a safety accept I just asked if it was noisy / would anyone hear me comming…….to which she replied NO.
I being a biker said that a noisy exhaust is one way people know I’m around and saves me from pedestrians stepping out in front of me.
She said
“ if u have a loud exhaust and live near me I WOULD SLASH YOUR TYRES !!! “:smt097
I TURNED AROUND AND WALKED OFF ……
I said to my daughter, she would slit my tyres cos my exhaust is loud / maybe I should slash her throat cos her mouth is too load………
Chill / chill / cool off / she is a XXXX……………
But it’s got under my skin….
If any one goes to NEC Birmingham don’t mention load exhausts to the lady at the electric bike stall…
who the hell like quite bikes?
Apart of that silly woman…….. NEC was great………..

WTF is an electric thing doing in a bike show?
They should be displaying things with turbos, and methanol, and noise. lots of noise.
Should of given her a bollocking for threatening criminal damage, that or smacked her in the mouth.

Bet she doesn't ride, but in some brainstorming session for public relations somebody had the ill conceived idea that "not having an anti social sounding machine" is a good selling point, and she's picked up on it with gusto. Silly woman.

I've come across this kind of moron myself before - sadly they do exist!
one that springs to mind is a Southwark Council employee who told me it was my fault that I had no way of adhering to their impossible parking policy (and therefore had been given a ticket) - because i rode a bike. She also felt that i should think myself lucky that we can ride in bus lanes (which we can't) and should get something else instead. That was just the tip of the iceberg BTW!
trouble is you're never gonna be able to change their mind. Best thing to do then is just wind them up, as per suggestions so far!!
Personally I would have had a good chuckle about. Can't particularly see why her comments would wind you up so much. She doesn't know you, she doesn't know where you live. The chances of her actually going through with what she said are probably quite slim. Much the same as you slashing her throat. Chill out.

Ooh, I might have to go and wind her up on friday..
think she'll catch on if there's three of us giving her abuse?!
But.. I don't think silent transport is a good idea. Its all very well, but nobody looks before stepping off the path 100% of the time, and if there's nothing to hear, then bad things are bound to happen.

I can't wait to get to the NEC on Friday, I think me and the guys i'm off with will all be visiting the Vectrix stand at some point
Have you thought about posting this comment in the visordown forums as well tonyk?? It give a lot more people the opportunity to do a bit of teasing as well. i'm sure there's thousands of folks out there who'd love to go and wind her up.....

I think electric scooters are a phenominal idea, imagine how London would be minus most of the cars, everyone on green scooters. Purely for a round town commuter thing. But yeah, silent ones seem a little dangerous. Although if they stick to the road its ok. I have been nearly mown down by silent bikes but that is when they go on the pavement and surprise you.
I don't think noisy exhausts help safety. When in my car I don't hear noisy bikes until they are already alongside - just as rail workers are killed by very loud trains and yet don't hear them coming.

There's a hydrogen cell powered bike being deveolped at the moment that's silent. The people who have made it actually give it an electronic exhaust note so that it can be heard when it's coming down the road......
Also, fine it's electric, so no need for petrol..........
...... How will we make the electricity?

And then they come past quickly and make you jump put of your skin! Good for filtering though :)

Fast forward 25/50/100 years, if *everyone* had silent cars and bikes, and therefore people grew up knowing they couldn't rely on their ears (or Darwinism has taken care of the ones who still do) would it be as safe then?
Don't get me wrong, I lurrrve my CCC, but if *everyone* had silent transport it might be quite tranquil? Perhaps I'm just getting old :D

Wow! What remark was it that caused this young lady to assist you in the trouser department? You must be a pro
Say hello to my old man. He's working on the Benelli stand. Said they have loads of bikes this year. (there was 1 Benelli there last year, just 1 bike  )
Just don't start talking to him about bikes, otherwise you won't get away.......

Matt, you don't even have to fast forward m8 ... you only have to take a look at the current generation growing up with iPods and MP3 players surgically attached to their skulls and ears to see that accidents are gonna happen

I find this the most irritating thig about all this! WHAT A CROCK OF DUNG! I wonder where the electric comes from... Out of the air no doubt, she would say i dont know but i gotto say these coal power stations which are about 35% fuel efficent (a very good one! I cant seem to find the percentage for and internal combustion engines but it isnt far off of 70% i believe...let me know!) are deffinately not going to warrent this "a bike with no pollution". OMG someone smack her in tha face just for selling a LIE!
THAT is what should pi$$ you off, people who think they are better because they are gr33n? ARG and the government think so too. ARE WE LED BY IDIOTS!? retorical question, ofcourse i know we are...

well my bike is the best so everything else is clearly going to be rubbish ;)
seriously though, i really don't know what's going on with the designs. personally i blame the EU emissions regulations and the people who are coming up with the paint schemes (esp for Benelli!)
the only good thing in my eyes is the move away from under-seat exhausts (they only belong on 916s and 748s). Oh and the tasty looking naked bikes from the likes of KTM :D

went to the stand on friday afternoon and said that there were a load of forums with details being passed around about a comment made by a member of their staff. the blonde bint muttered something about "slander" and looked very very unhappy. i laughed and said there was no way i could buy from a company who employed such thick, narrow minded, staff and was off to buy a noisier exhaust.:)
please dont slap her / use harsh WORDS only......:smt113

What makes me laugh about this it is the carbon footprint is c rap ect... It really is, renewable energy to make then takes so much energy. So you may never see a return on them, they take more energy than will produce in a opertional life time.....Basic physics takes more energy to produce than you will get out.
When I was in Mexico, our reseach base was powered off manily soalor panels, we had a genny to power up computers and and our comms gear thats it. But that worked most of time becasue we didn't need much else, but in town ect....you need far more power.
Don't tell me, last year the rest broke down even when being pushed into the show.
Didn't have a stand last year, only a Benelli Tornado RS.
Benelli DID have reliability issues, but now its owned by a Chinese firm and all the reliability problems, parts delays etc have now been sorted.
Im still aching for a 900 Tornado Tre, exactly the same as the old mans. He's already selling his F4R to go back to a Tornado RS (900, not the new 1130, don't like the position of the green paint  ).
PS, good on the lass for having a pop at the un-educated whinging bafoon women. Talk about slag your clients off. Hmmmm, at a bike show, with thousands of bikers, and whinge about loud exhausts..... She was brave, or stupid (i'll go with the latter).

Should have asked if they were planning to offer an Arrow or Akrapovic can as an 'option' for the scoot. ;)
these coal power stations which are about 35% fuel efficent (a very good one! I cant seem to find the percentage for and internal combustion engines but it isn't far off of 70% i believe...let me know!)
If its on Wikipedia it must be truth ;)
Diesel engines have energy efficiency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_efficiency) of 45% and petrol engines of 30%http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuel_efficiency (Last paragraph under the "Fuel Economy" heading)
And power plants:
Subcritical fossil fuel power plants can achieve 36–38% efficiency. Supercritical (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercritical_fluid) designs have efficiencies in the low to mid 40% range, with new "ultra critical" designs using pressures of 4,400 psia (30 MPa) and dual stage reheat reaching about 48% efficiency. Nuclear power plants (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power_plant) must operate far below the temperatures and pressures than coal fired plants do. This limits their thermodynamic efficiency to the order of 34–37%. One proposed plant design, the Supercritical water reactor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercritical_water_reactor), operates at temperatures and pressures similar to current coal plants, producing comparable efficiency.
