View Full Version : Visor Open?
After seeing the influx of clothing and other such issues (Water on visor etc) I wondered who here rides with a visor open for the majority of the time.
See i ride with my visor open all the time, apart from in heavy rain and when it's too uncomfortable to do so, like high speed.
I barely ever wash my visor and if it gets covered in rain i wipe it from time to time with my glove and that does the trick.
Is this strange behavior? or am i not alone?
having geggs, i too often have the visor up
also even at motorway the wind isnt too bad, cos of the lens
i'd wear it down all the time if i wasn't so steamy
Personally I'd not recomend it. Lots of cr@p can be thrown up off the roads, not a good idea to receive a lump of stuff in the eyeball even at low speeds. In summer a fly in the eye is worth a bike in the hedge.
My eyes start streaming if i go around with the visor up loads in this weather, which ain't ideal. I open it when I come to a stop, if riding round town its usually open.
I always have it a open a tiny bit unless I'm on a motorway or blasting round the twisties.
And I'd much rather I had to clean that crap off my visor every day than off my face every day!

Used a lid on the 125 for a while with a visor made of cracks, couldn't see a thing through that.
Trust me on this one, flies in your eyes hurt a lot!

yes in the rain as i find it easier to see,
no im summer, hate flies! they hurt when they ping you in the eye!
and on a motorway or a-road over 60 it shuts anyway!

buy cheapo bolle safety specs, clear and loads potection. Visor up feel without knowing they are there.
Visor down always. Might crack it open at the lights to stop it steaming up, but other than that, always down.

I had my visor open as I was pulling away from my house, put it down all but a crack to let the nice breeze in (i think it was on our one day of summer this year) and a mentalist wasp flew in! was not fun! but lucky he wasnt in the mood for stinging!
and i did my best to not throw my bike at the sceanary!

Not to clever if you wear glasses as they are almost impossible to clean with the lid on.Opening to the first click lets in fresh air and the occasional fly but keeps most things out. Riding with it open at slow speeds is OK but as soon as am above 30mph it is flicked down and up one click. Some people prefer open face helmets/some closed,I have a flip front[Evo5] which can if you want give you best of both worlds and surprisingly enough it is just as quiet as a full face

I generally ride with mine open round town, as longas the weather's ok and not too cold! just flick it down when i get to a speed where the wind starts to annoy me or if i see some gravel in the road, etc

nice!
had a bee land on my eyebrow while doing my DAS,had shades on thank god! still made me a bit jumpy!:D
Open a click at low speed (lets in air keeps most flying objects out).
Often open it right up when I'm stopped at lights.
Closed at higher speed.
 Reminds me of a blonde moment I had once when I was commuting into London down the A13. It had been raining heavily not long before so there was really bad road spray. Ended up tailing a big lorry in a 2 lane stretch which was throwing up LOADS of spray, couldn't see enough past it to want to risk a blind overtake so I chose to wait 'til it turned back to a 3 lane section.
Not a huge issue except the spray at this point on the A13 is brown and mucky. Visor quickly became coated in this opaque slime.
I'm thinking "Cack!!! Can't see!!!"
...so I flipped the visor up...
FAIL!!!
After a faceful of muck I just backed off to the edge of his spray zone...
I started carrying a damp foamy sponge after that. :D

I managed to pull my balaclava over my motorcycle helmet (as seen in my Avatar) and it made me look like a space alien. Vision was also restricted and i was cooking away...

Fair play
I ride with the visor up a little. But try not to open too much after nearly having my eye taken out by a bug at nearly a ton
Don't open it in wet weather as the water runs inside the visor, and thats a no no, in the dark, wet, lights become stars.......
I clean my visor every day, rain X every day, and washing up liquid inside the visor every 3 weeks or so...

is it safe to use fairy liquid on your visor without it destroying the coating on your helmet?
I use water... but then when it drys it looks dirty again and i cant really see anything..
Use washing up liquid on the inside of the visor to stop it steaming up, but only during winter. I think i've applied 3 coats so far this winter. Only lasts a few weeks, but I like riding with a totally clear visor.
Front of my visor gets some abuse. Like Ping, it gets covered in dirt and crap from the road as they are so busy coming into the city. Dirt, diesel, salt, general grime and nastyness. Thats why I need to clean it and re-apply rainX to it every day. It works at least for a few miles before it gets inbedded with dirt (hence water no longer flows off).
A quick "dry wipe" at work, and it will work again until halfway home.
I've got a rubber bit on my gloves also for cleaning my visor as I ride. In the wet, im almost wiping it like a window wiper moves.
I want a bash hat with its own window wipers
