Navman S30 for £108.95 from Amazon. (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Navman-S30-Satellite-Navigation-Ireland/dp/B000UX728A/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1196255275&sr=8-1)
This little unit came top of an MSN test of SatNav systems.
It won the budget section ;-)
Looks very nice and appears to do its job well (don't own one so not a personal recommendation you understand)

However I DO have an Acer N35 PDA + Destinator s/w and it SUCKS!!

In all honesty, get her to give him an IOU. sat navs are ALWAYS cheaper in the sales.

When i bought verna a tomtom one, it went down £50 2 weeks later in the jan sales. I did take it back to PCworld, got a full refund, then bought one cheaper.
