It looks like a purpose built street machine and it walks the talk. It boasts electronic fuel injection, power output is now 82bhp with improved fuel efficiency, more low speed torque (67Nm at 7,250rpm) and stronger performance. Vibration is minimised by counterbalancing and a new oil cooler aids performance and durability. The exhaust system is kept low and central for mass centralization.
The new frame is very rigid for improved handling and low vibration, using tubular chromium molybdenum (CrMo) steel and aluminium. The swing arm is rigid, but low weight aluminium and unsprung weight is reduced with lightweight 5-spoke wheels. Tyres are 120/70-17 ZR and 180/60-17 ZR. Front brake discs are 300mm with radial mounted 4-piston callipers.
Combined analogue and digital instruments, carefully located electrical components and an LED tail lamp all help to reduce weight and improve durability. Special attention has been paid to ease of riding and comfort

I'd take some of that spec sheet with a pinch of salt. The brakes for instance, look like the same 2 pot sliders on the rear and front, this is certainly the setup of the GT650.

Looks nice though, but I wouldn't expect it to be any quicker than an SV650.

Just dont breath on it, it'll rust up and fall apart in no time :D

A couple of lads at my uni have GT250 hyosungs, they look quite trick - I thought they where the 650's at first.

Brakes aren't radial mounts, not in that picture anyway.
Is the 82 BHP at the crank? If so, still 72-73 at the back wheel.

82 bhp in some fevered imagination.
Those brakes look like the same crap ones that Hyosung have used for several years.Build quality and reliability needs to have improved dramatically if they are to be taken seriously.
Id buy a one year old SV for the same money and have a far better bike.

The last 650 made more power than the SV. My 2 year old Hyosung kept indoors fell completely to pieces. Sheets of paint used to fall off, metal parts just sheared in use

They have this on show at the NEC. It does "look" good - albeit a bit plasticy (which I think they all do).

THe chap on the stand was saying it ain't ready for release yet. The show model had a nice big scuff on the headlight shroud and the speedo sensor cable wasn't tied back to anything - nice :-)

My lad had a GT125
Kept in garage, but rusted like a 1970s Lancia.Consumed chains and brake pads almost as fast as we could order spares and did a front disc in 10000 miles.Headraces at 12000 miles and then he binned it.Best thing for it really.:D

Same as mine. Absolute **** to get parts for. I sold it for £600 and it didn't run, was held together by super glue, had no paint and was scraped to bits, hehehe.

I think it was Ride did a back to back test of the GT and the SV (a curvy with a few miles under it too)
The SV spanked it, lighter, bit more power, better build (saying that about the SV #shock#)

It looks pretty nice, but they don't have a good reputation at all. However, I expect that they'll get a bit better each year and one day will surprise us by being as good as Japanese bikes. Just don't expect that to happen for a little while though.

Aint they s'posed to be heavy blighters too? That swingarm looks like a chunker.

I was speaking to a sales rep at Bats in Bigglens Hill.

He seems to thing thy are ok BUT when you do any mantaince and you will ( more than others ie sv ) you will have to go around checking torque on bolts as they tend to come undone.

In his opinion buy an sv as they are not much more , but will last a lot longer and have better build quality.

Also what is the second hand market like do the price go down like a boats anchor?

it was BIKE mag, the guy with the GT binned it the other month! cheap to fix compared to an SV apprently.....

i like the look of the new supermoto they might be bringing out, looks abit hypermotard:smt045

Nice looking bike. Hopefully Suzuki take the hint and do something about reviewing their own.

But would anyone seriously consider buying one?

If you've answered yes then i suspect you are on crazy pills. :)

They're cheap. I bought an XRX 125M, a sort of a little engined supermotard, for next to nothing and its new. Been ok so far and I'm riding it all the time as it's low on fuel too. Can't do long distances on it really though. The SV feels like a superbike in the weekends after a week trashing the little 125. Can't complain really, its doing the job well and so far nothing fell off.

Looks like the love child of a naked SV and a ducati hypermotard!

(which isn't actually a bad thing!)

Those GT650s aren't that cheap when you consider the sort of deal you can usually pick up on an SV650. I mean, it's only going to be a few hundred quid between them, and you'd have to really want to save that initial few hundred to go for the Hyosung (imo). I bet you'd lose far more in the long term.

I'd rather have an older SV than a brand new hyosung, IMO the parts situation makes it more than anything else, theres loads for the SV in aftermarket and spares type stuff.

Swing arm is best bit imo! Dont know about the rest though...

Give it a couple more years and I think they will be on top of the quality issues - that has to be the biggest issue to address as it is certainly their greatest weakness ATM... but then I dont know anyone who has brought a 650 off them over the last year. I've only ever seen one in London.

Yeah, they're getting there. Still not quite, but not so far off now.

Loads here in Sydney - I have seen more GT650's than I have SV's

Apparently the quality is getting a huge amount better. But the 0 miler bikes at the shows even have paint falling off! - surely not a good omen.
Like Japan there will be a day in the not so distant future when they'll be renowned for reliability; but lets not get disillusioned about the SV's 'quality'.

The Ozzies seem more relaxed towards picking up Korean, Chinese and cheaper Japanese vehicles. I don't know whether it's to do with proximity reducing the costs, or whether weather plays in their favour. Certainly Hyundai has a credible record in Oz they'd kill for over here.

I wouldn't even consider the Hyosung.

Today I went to my local Suzuki dealer, he has a zero miles 57 plate pre-reg SV650N K6 on display marked up at £3500 - that's a saving of 800 quid. Why buy the poorly built imitation when you can buy the real thing that cheap.

Yeah sure I agree mate. I'm talking about a 125 here not the 650 SV replacement wannabe. I've seen a couple Hyosung 650's close up and the finish is nothing close to the Japanese at the moment. I'm not ruling out that they'll get there soon enough though as they've made a big leap in the last few years. Every new bike is getting better from these guys. Well the more the merrier. Hope they'll sort out their weaknesses (which are getting fewer), that way we can all enjoy.
