I know the feeling  I'm 22 and have just grown my first beard. My mother very helpfully keeps offering to colour in the missing bits with felt-tip. Cheers for the emasculation mum

Nope. It makes you look older, and by drawing attention to your mouth and jaw it makes them look slightly too big, slightly out of balance. Shame, cos you've got nice eyes.

Well you did ask!!!

Only piece of advice my Dad ever gave me: don't grow a beard before you can. I still haven't grown one :(

Haha, yeah I am aware of the absurdity of a patchy beard, most commonly the 'underbeard' - sprawling down the neck, untrimmed, to compensate for lack of anything above the jawline.

Only bit I'm missing atm is joining the 'tach up with the rest of it. But it's passable and had received favourable comments so I don't think it's too heinous. Just need to wait for the girlfriend's opinion now. If I get a mocking laugh at first sight then it may have to come off
