No dont put an alarm on it.It will only go wrong and dump you somewhere nasty when you least expect it.Save the money and buy a chain.
Apart from that sounds like a deal.:D

Cool, can't believe they are £4999 now. Bargain at that price.

Yeah forget the alarm. As I said on the Kwak forums the bike will still get nicked and everyone nearby will claim that they never heard a thing. You will however be guaranteed electrical problems and flat batteries.

Spend the money beefing up garage/shed locks and/or getting a ground anchor and decent chain. You can get chains with a high pitched alarm in the lock - which doubles as a disk lock. Mine was plenty loud enough.

Sounds like the Alarm might cause a few problems then, even if its fitted by a dealer??? if so a Ground anchor and big chain will be better!! Like you sy how many people pay attention to those things anyway?

www.mcnninjas.co.uk (http://www.mcnninjas.co.uk)

They are a bit biased though so take what they say with a pinch of salt and always try to seek other opinions to balance out their advice.

By the way, during my student days I worked as a trolley boy at Asda and cars were always getting broken into. I'd arrive to find the alarm going off and a smashed window. People a few cars away would be loading the shopping into their boots but if you asked them if they saw or heard anything they wouldn't want anything to do with it.

I wouldn't waste a penny on an alarm.

neio79
30-11-07, 07:29 PM
ill have a look at that forum thank you, i doubt it is as busy as this one though??

As for the alarm ill see what they offer, be it alarm or anchor and chain.

Ed
30-11-07, 11:32 PM
Useless alarms thirded or is it fourthded. I had a Datatool 3 put on my Daytona, and I wish I hadn't - it causes bad battery drain and if I don't put it on the Optimate every night the battery's flat very quickly esp cos I do a lot of town riding. Complete PIA - never again.

30-11-07, 11:51 PM
Physical security much better than any alarm, I've had two bikes with alarms but my latest hasn't and it's staying that way.. You only get about £20 off your insurance anyway in my experience.. Lovely bike that! Can't wait for the day that I can get something similar.. Excellent price :-)

Well done, nice one Neio, black looks so much better than the green IMHO but in Orange they look OK too.

As for an alarm, well it's your choice but having been a victim of a double bike theft that effectively put me off the road for the best part of 14 years (insurance went off the scale for mere mortals) I would take best security that I could afford. At home, a good chain and ground anchor is a very good idea, as is another chan and a disk lock. The simple fact is that YOU might hear the alarm. Yes they do draw power but you should be fine for a few weeks without charging the battery and an Optimate is a cheap alternative to loosing the bike.

Alarm fitment is awkward on your bike though as some dealers fit them under the rear seat so you loose the toolkit storage which might be a problem. Personally as the bike has an imobiliser as standard I'd fit a cheaper alarm (£50 from Busters accessories) and mount it somewhere else. It's easy to fit too. I plumbed one into my MT-03 and that has zero storage space.

Once again, congrats on the new arrival

01-12-07, 12:22 PM
way hey, done deal.

Paid for the ZX and it arrives on Friday all sparkly and new.

Got the scotoiler on it as well, but they were reluctant to do much else due to the already low price and the fact they gave me £2000 PX on mine!!! which i think is a great price for a 4yr old SV PX'd at a main dealer.

I will be taking out Gap insurance as well for £250 just in case!!

So - why the Kwak?

Well i have been wanting to get a new bike for a little while, i was going to wait till next spring. But with nearly £2K off list, no mods for the 2008 model i thought it was a bargin too hard to resist.

Oh and the big selling point for me was the Looks, IMO it is the best looking SS600 out there, especially in Black.

I have not heard of a bad review on it either which helped.

So the two biggest influences were its looks and the great deal i got. Still cant belive i got £2K for mine!!!

It is sooooooooo light compared to the SV, you dont even notice its there LOL , and the seat although hard spreads the weight well so seems comfy enough. I was surprised the bars are not much lowere than the SV's

Pics will be posted on friday peeps, i cant wait!! oh and it only cost me an extra £150 a year insurance to keep it fully comp! :p:D.

I am like the cat who got the cream at the moment.

The only thing i really will miss from the SV is the sound of the exhaust no mater what anyone says a IL4 just can not compete with a V-twin.

Nice one

Alarms are just for reducing insurance premiums, they're a pain in the bum otherwise, but the ones with pagers in seem to be a much better idea, don't know if that's an option for you?

That cool mate. I got one of these too. Ab absolute steal at just over £2000 off book price.

Only had mine for just over a week now and it's already due its first service - just can't resist going out on it all the time.

See http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm (http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm) for breaking in ideas. That's what I'm trying.

Ride safe mate - the tyres are effing slippery when new.

Enjoy!

Its Arived!!! yes, and it is great.

I love it, its so light compared to the SV, and you notice the more expensive suspension and brakes as well.

unfortunatly i am limited to about 4000RPM for the first 100 miles then 6000 till 600 so ill be out and about to try and rack up the miles ASAP.

its the little gadgets that amuse me the most like the shift up light and the lap timer!!

Good choice & deffo great deal Ninja ! Join the ZxR club ! ive got me an old un (G1) - much easier in town than the CBR600RR i had...

Will be interested to see how you find it after the SV ...i was getting diabolical aches and pains on the CBR on longish trips , legs, hips, wrists, hands etc ...

Security - you need a tracker bro, even if youve got a garage, your mind will be at rest when you take it out. Any new bikes are a target, but the new sports 600s are TOP OF THE LIST, click the sig below for more info...:smt002

Good luck with the bike - great choice btw altho the R6 would have tempted me also

Had a break in the weather so i went out on the Ninja for its first proper ride.

OMG its brilliant. Even though it started to rain again it just felt so planted on the road. It is soooooo confidence inspiring compared to the SV, i would go as far as to say i felt more confident in the corners on it in the wet with new tyres than i did on some summer days on the SV.

It turns in quick and just glides around corners, cant wait till the summer and some fast corner action.

The ride is very comfy (well for me) i felt no pain in the wrists and the seat stays a constant comfy rather than like the SV where it starts comfy bur because its so sofy you sink into it and get bum ache. For me the riding position is actualy nicer.

The suspension, well i never really belived you could tell that much, but yes you can. It soaks up the bumps and alike. so smooth, and again it probably helps it feel better in corners, no diving of front forks under braking.

The Engine, obviously it is the biggest diff. It has no real low down grunt like the SV no real tourque and you can tell it likes to be reved, but you can still pull off top gear overtakes fast enough. I am suppposed to be doing <4000RPM for a litle while but that is 45ish in top so i made the choice to go up to 60MPH top for a little while. I cant wait untill the run in period is over then i can see what she really has got.
The exhaust note, while not as nice as an SV or any V-twin, on the move you cna hear a nice crisp bark under acceleration that is surprisingly loud.

my overall impression, F-ing brilliant so glad i have this bike and roll on dry roads and hot days!!

neio79
