Just been on TV! Only channel M News In Manchester, but you can see the report here: http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid1214105369/bctid1329220723
I'm the one looking a touch chubby in showing the reporter a breath kit. Chuffed really 'cos I've only ever been in the papers before!
Start of the annual drink drive campaign.

Rich, you are very right - moustaches are synonymous with traffic cops. Funnily enough, there are several 'taches on the road policing unit in our force!

Bloody hell, is this the national police forums :p.
I was famous apparently... Only because i once talked to the Queen. Was only a question from her and an answer from me. ACE :D

That's three layers of the stuff! That was about 5 hours in to an ANPR op, standing roadside. Frickin' cold it was!

the guy's standing out in the traffic with the blue bands on their hats- are they senior traffic cops or something? do they have extra training above you to allow them to stop the cars? how long before you can do this also? is it like having to do the two years on the beat you mentioned before you can become a junior traffic cop? i'm fascinated by the different rank structure in your job (sorry if i sound like a train spotter!)

BluePete, if you stop a person whos been driving to fast, do you ever say to them "hello sir/madam, who do you think you are then? *close right up to face* Michael Schumacer?"
Or if its a biker, do you ask if they think they are Barry Sheene?

Or going by the antics of A&S constabulary round this way lately, if it's a woman ask them for a shag :p . The culprit had a moustache in that instance as well.

Not these days. The bosses told us about 10 months ago to refer to Lewis Hamilton as he is a role model for young people from ethnic minorities and we have to be seen to be culturally diverse.
Honest.
