Evel Knievel, the hard-living daredevil whose famous jumps over Greyhound buses, live sharks and Idaho's Snake River Canyon, which made him an international icon in the 1970s, died today. He was 69.

The description 'Legend' is used far too often these days IMO - but, if there was 1 man who trulydeserved the title it's Evel Knievel - The Grand-daddy or Godfather if you like of stunt motorcyclists.

At the time I knew no better, but he knew (along with countless others) that a Harley 750 was not the ideal motorcycle for jumping over things - the bike was too heavy, had too little power, had naff suspension etc, etc - BUT, being the patriot he was he absoultely refused to use anything other than an American bike - foolish or unwilling to compromise his 'beliefs' ? I'll leave it to the individual to choose.

RIP Evel - you certainly made the world a more interesting place !!

Thaks Evel for all those fantastic jumps, dodgy movies and brilliant motorcycles.

Funny, I always thought his liver would be the thing to kill him after the hepatitis. A realy ledgend, I'll be telling my kids about him.

Gutted..

didn't Kanye West visit him the other day to settle out of court the lawsuit Evel was levelling against him for tarnishing his name in Wests' 'Touch the Sky' video?? Maybe foul play?? Never trust these pesky gangstar rappers..

People always told me motorcycles were dangerous. Well if Evel could do that without killing himself to eventually die with a disease he caught in hospital. Bikes are hardly dangerous are they?

its wasnt the bike he was on that was dangerous it was the man himself lol

:( RIP, sad news indeed.

On a slightly spooky note, a girl at work bought me a present on Friday morning to decorate my new desk - a replica of the Evel Knievel friction-wheel thingummyjig toy like the one Richie mentioned. How strange.
