View Full Version : 2007 - Good or bad?
Taken from last years thread, how has 2007 been for you?
From a biking point of view, I have done more mileage this year than in previous years, and from that I think my riding HAS improved, in part due to a change in riding style. I have done a first "tour" of Scotland with a 4 dayer but have found myself going out less but for longer runs. Mainly due to weather being so poor
On a general note, 2007 has felt like a much of the same year however reflecting back generally shows it to be quite eventful. Had a crash in January which meant being off all of Feb and into March. Managed to fit in quite a few hols (2 overseas), got engaged and im now waiting to transfer forces. Socially, it has been a fairly poor year due to work/drifting apart from mates, and this is something I hope to change next year.
If the weather had been much better this year, things could have been a lot different on both fronts. My life is strongly dictated by the Sun!
2007 rating: 7/10
Crap year for me, nuff said.

Is that not the same answer you gave last year?
Ace year for me! Got to grips with my new job, and decided not to leave. Passed my second year exams, which I really didn't think I'd get.
And finally bought the bike of my dreams, a Triumph Speed Triple, though this has meant that my boat has been neglected, biking has been brill.
Here's to the last month of 2007, it'll be sorely missed.
Fingers crossed for my finals in 2008. And then freedom and more biking!

From a personal perspective, the worst year of my life

Pretty poo year really. Left a job where I was totally stressed out to a new job and location. The new location has worked out fine, but find I'm working even more hours than before and still not getting to see my family. Managed less than 1000 miles bike riding, couldn't make any of the ride outs at all.
Maybe next year is the one I finally go postal :smt067
Not a bad year the weather was rubbish and continues to be, I am still looking for the perfect career but i married the wonderful man in front of most of our family and friends

Lows - im not going to dwell on them!

Hopefully 2008 will be an awesome year where ill be spending a lot of money on racing. I'll be skint but hopefully happy! :-D

This year has been very good and very bad, had some real high points and some really, bad ones......
The highs were, starting a new job after travelling, moved to London learnt to ride, got my cbt and a 125 did 2500 miles which was ACE! Passed my test and got my SV in September, met you lot and from then been much better and finally wrapping my head around around job its getting to the point where I understand it and enjoy it!
The low was I found some training hard this year, but was totally worth all my hard work. But the worst was I went into work one day in June became ill, work were like you need to get into A&E now. Finally got there I was told I needed surgery. The thought of going into hospital worried me a lot, being off work ect I was so stressed I failed my bike test:( The whole thing put me about 2/3 months back this year in everything and cost me money.
Now I'm all fixed I'm really looking to foward to next year....More riding, hopefully doing IAM, track days, may be a mini twin bike yeh I can't wait for it to happen! I'll be broke and happy!
Rock on 08, it will be better I intend to stay out of hospital as well!

It started off fine, then got awful for a number of reasons, but it's getting OK again now. Next year will hopefully be better :)
Biking....OK I would have liked to have done more.
General, progressed massively and achieved loads. However, also achieved loads of stress, depression and ultimately boredom at work. My aim for this year is to take a massive change in direction, a new career and a new challenge. Something more practical and hardgraft.
Didn't do enough biking due to weather but when I did it was top stuff. Traded the Daytona and SV for K2 and K3 Gixers - best move of the year. Convinced riding improved as a result. AND I got both knees down (separate occasions ) whilst staying on the bike! so a good year for me but could have been even better if nicer weather. Fingers crossed for 2008 if knees hold out!

Its been a real tough year for me, extreme high moments and also lows. I’ve learned a lot, reaped the rewards of learning to ride and met an enormous number of fantastic Biker people
I’ll remember 2007 for the following;
Lows
- I lost a friend. BJ died in a motor biking accident in the summer – the same day that I was training with Bershire Ambulance service - FBoS First Biker On Scene. As I was learning to save the life of a fellow rider, I lost someone that I admired.
- The long weekend in Cornwall – Originally this ride was organized to celebrate BJ’s birthday, instead we buried him on the Friday and then 15 of us rode on without him.
The lows were low…. But the highs were high
Organizing a stand at Ally Pally Bike show with only 2 weeks notice.
Riding to France - my first biking experience abroad & got the bug for adventure.
Brands hatch…. Not bad going as I only had 8 months experience on a big bike
Riding to Spain – Proper adventure, snow, gales, punctures and beer, lol.
I stripped and serviced my own brakes – and they worked!
I helped to organize a training program for 44 Unity Support Riders – safer riding skills and FBoS.
Unity Ride 2007 – a 500 strong snake of bikers growling through London – the noise was delicious.
Roll on 2008 - ride safe everyone

BAD
Lost my Dad (not via death unfortunately), lost my boyfriend, broke my arm coming off my bike which after 3 months ain't healing and will be loosing my dog :( . Oh and will have to sell my bike.
Bring on 2008 cause 2007 was the worst year of my life.
Biking wise pretty poor, mainly through my own apathy and lazyness not really done many miles at all.
Got over to NI for Ulster GP, which was a bit of a washout but still some good racing.
Did a wheelie school as well which was a hoot.
General life wise, same old same old, bought a new Car which is fun (although a contributory factor to the decreased bike miles) and a new house which I still have mixed feelings about.
Spent 2007 sorting out the mess my ex made of my life.
Roll on 2008.

2007 has been a mixed year for me..... the highs have been really high but the lows really low. On the low side I lost 3 extremely good friends this year. 2 of my nursing colleagues both died months apart due to cancer and I also lost a good friend of 28 years and his 2 year old son when they drowned in a boating accident down south. R.I.P. Muriel, Liz, Alan and little Arun x
On the high side I finally adjusted to my son working away from home, I moved house and cleared a hefty mortgage which gave me my life back!! I bought a new car and finally returned to biking after 2 years away. Got myself my lovely SV (thanks to Mototech) and made a fantastic friend, met Pedro and Luckypants from this site and i`m looking forward to lots of biking hours, lots of fun and making many more new friends in 2008.
Have a great xmas everyone and I hope 2008 is a fantastic year for you all :D
Mixed year, started out ok-last few months have been rough but now things are better than they have ever have been and im certainly looking forward to 2008 :)
