Can anyone help?

Im trying to reinstall XP using a windows install disk, albiet a backed up copied version.

Iv done it several times before but lost the disk i used to use, however i had a dvd witht the XP install files on.

can anyone take a print screen of an install boot disk and post it up so i know what files should be on the cd? and should they be in a master folder or just bare on the cd?

Any advice appreciated as tother halfs laptop is fubared if i cant do this...

might be a case of "sucking eggs" so to speak but a normal XP install disk will allow you to either go into recovery console, or fix a broken previous install by re-installing over the top, although this method is a little "big hammer for small nail" for my liking, I have both an NTDOS boot disk (floppy) or a Linux boot disk which both give access to the NTFS file system, I would link to an ISO of one of these but at present I can't get upstair to get them so you'll have to hunt one up somewhere.

Cheers Mark.

Do you mean you've lost the floppy disk needed to boot the XP installation CD with?

If so, you can download a bootdisk image from here (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310994)

normally whenever i have re installed windows, i have inserted my windows disk and re booted into the bios, selected boot from cd and it goes about re writing the HDD.

Now i trying to do this on the laptop, but none of the windows install disks i have work by booting from the bios using "boot from cd", so im stuck! completley as what the hell to do!

any help appreciated!

You need to get on line (Another computer or a friends etc), go to whatever make of laptop it is and see if you can download new disks i have XP but its no good to you, you need a complete XP and driver reinstall disks. Another option is to go to IE PC world, currys, etc tell them you need a new copy of XP explain whats happend and i am sure they will cut you a new copy.
PS. Take the origonal disks with you to prove you are the rightfull owner,it would be even better to go back with reciept to the shop you got it from.:p

You don't need a disc, just boot from CD?
