She's sweeeeeeet, gorgeous, black & has limited eyesight so she's an indoor cat.
I was looking for a kitten but after seeing her online, & then in person I was completely smitten (she's really affectionate).
She's a senior cat & as she can only see a bit out of one eye the RSPCA said it put a lot of people off, not me though,
I just had to give her a home *jumps up & down in chair*. Now I have to stop myself going back for more or a dog lol

ohhhhh cutie. Rescue animals are always great, I got my older dog from RSPCA and Bob I rescued off the street at 12 weeks old, they are so loyal friends.

She's lovely, and well done for taking an older cat. They tend to be ignored in favour of 'cute' kittens. I've had a couple of older rescued cats, and they have been great.

I always want to bring them all home, though:(

my dog's a rescue too, ex-police dog. I used to work at an RSPCA animal centre and so many new animals used to come in every day, most healthy, some not so. some got rehomed quick (usually the cute young ones) others dont, was really sad to see how long some had been there. there were even a few who were still there when i left and that was after a year or so! :smt085

so a thumbs up from me!:)

She looks lovely. What's she called?

We adopted 2 rescue cats a few weeks ago. We chose the ones that just hid under the chair and in a box. They are called Billy (II) and Bonnie.

This is Bonnie (my cat). Billy(II) is Eviltwin's.

i had 2 rescue cats bonnie and clyde. when i moved into flat i felt bad about then having to live in shed so gave them to my pal in nottingham. unfortunately bonnie went missing and has never been found but clyde is doing well.

we got a lab cross pup when we first moved, from rescue place, unfortunately it didnt like my son (18 months at time boy not dog). it used to nip at him, rescue place said it was trying to be dominant pup. gave us loads of tips. unfortunately oneday it lept a 3 foot barrier and dragged my son from chair and started scratching his back and nipping his face. as it was only 10 weeks old had not been out walking and its claws were very long. took loads of skin of my sons back, he only had nappy on. dog went back that day, dont know what happened to it.

made me wary of dogs, thankfully my son was too young to remember or maybe just stupid, he has no real fear of dogs

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww she's a sweetie.
I've not decided on a name yet, I keep throwing names at her & I'll see what sticks lol. So far the list has included Bella (what the RSPCA girl had named her), Vella, Lilith, Selene, Akasha & Morticia. Out of these she seems to like Selene the most but any suggestions welcomed :D

Aww, bless he's got the same lil white patch on his chest as mine does, (although hers is much smaller).
I'm so glad I wasn't stuck on getting a kitten, there was even a waiting list, but as soon as I saw her my mind was made up :D

Beautiful kitties all. We got 2 gorgeous grey rescue kittens 18 and a half years ago and called them Bonnie and Clyde (popular names ;)) Unfortunately Clyde passed away last year but we still have Bonnie, she is arthritic, gummy and dribbles a lot but we love her. Although she regularly gets beaten up by our other cat who is 16 and a half now. :smt021 . We are absolute suckers and we leave the fire on low for her overnight with a cushion in front that she hardly ever leaves now except to go to the fridge and demand Whiskas Kitty milk. :smt042

Anyone who dismisses how important these creatures can be to your life really does not know what they are talking about.

Trace:)

yeah there's always a risk with rescues, u do well to be wary. but for it to have done that and only a pup tis a tad worrying :smt085, who knows what it will be like now! what breed was it just out of interest?

Awwww, she is gorgeous :D Well done for picking an older cat. We got an 8 year old rescue cat in May this year after our old puss sadly died, and she is absolutely fantastic. We knew that an older puss would probably end up there for ages cos most people want younger ones but we wouldn't change her for anything :D

Nice one!

I think the older cats are worth getting - Philip (our cat) is housetrained (better than the husband at times :p) and soooo polite; he won't even jump up on your lap unless you have a cushion or a blanket on there (or maybe its because its more comfortable?)

Everyone else calls him Stinky. He's a bit nervous/timid & farts when you pick him up.

This scabby little urchin is Sophie, our Corfu rescue cat.
http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/CorfuHoneymoon08-16Oct2004369.jpg

There was a severe thunderstorm in Corfu while Grinch and I were on honeymoon and Sophie was caught in the run-off and got washed down the path. I bundled her in my fleece and took her back to our hotel room. Her nose and eyes were bunged with gunk, and her breathing was raspy. I didn't think she'd survive the night but she surprised us both!

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/CorfuHoneymoon08-16Oct2004338.jpg

I bathed her in the sink (fun bathing a semi-feral kitten!!) and got the fleas and bugs out of her fur.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/CorfuHoneymoon08-16Oct2004361.jpg
Though, to be honest, she was a Daddy's girl from the start!! This is in the hotel room... We took her out during the day, and she travelled around in our hire car. We found an english-speaking vet, and got her a pet-passport and her worming injections etc, but she was too tiny and ill with flu to have the flu or rabies vaccine. So I had to call the british consulate who put me in touch with DEFRA and quarantine, who faxed the paperwork I needed to get her on a plane home. Then we bought an airport standard carrier, and called our airline - who told us they didn't carry animals! I had to book a flight for her with another airline on the sunday after we'd gone home! So we then drove across the island to a lovely english lady who rescued cats and cared for them. She agreed to take Sophie to the airport for us on the Sunday and put her on the flight.

Quarantine met her at Heathrow when she arrived, and she went straight back with them.

These next were taken whilst she was in quarantine. She had a 3'x3' room, just wide enough for a patio chair and a litter tray on the floor, and a shelf with a plywood box and a blanket for her to sleep in. We were allowed to visit, and we went most weekends. It was absolutely freezing in there, there was ice on the INSIDE of the window! She was there from November 2004 - April 2005.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/Saturday201104005.jpg
So tiny on the filthy chair - I used to clean the room when I visited.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/Saturday201104001.jpg
Still very much a Daddy's girl.

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/Saturday201104012.jpg
Laid comfy on my big baby-bump!! (I was heavily pregnant with PJ when these were taken toward the end of her quarantine).

So... in April she came home, scatty and stir-crazy from quarantine. She hid under the table for 3 days until she plucked-up the courage to venture out into bigger space. Now, a couple of years down the line she's a mental corfuit part of our family!!

http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g153/jessicarabbit_2006/DSC00312.jpg
Cozy with daddy after a busy day chasing insects and swatting passers-by...

It cost us an absolute fortune to bring her home and have her in quarantine (A little over £2,300), but the vet in Corfu said she would die of malnutrition or exposure if we left her there. So she is our living honeymoon souvenir, and she is worth every penny.

*So, well done and a thumbs up matey for adopting your new kitty... :D :D

it was a cross between lab (which I thought would be ideal) and german shepherd (later told that it is not a good combination). I told rescue place the dog would be ok with older kids probably but not with young ones. then I had to sign a form to say that I agree to it being put to sleep if necessary. I cried but signed.

my dog's an alsatian....i heard somewhere that the german shepherds are bred with a normal temperament and that alsatians are meant to be more aggressive due to their use in the police etc. dunno how true that is though.

Yeah. I'm trying to toughen him up for when I leave him alone for 5-odd months next year as none of my house mates want him & I can't afford to stick him in a cattery. I've put his blanket in the spiders' shed so he's getting used to being outside. In Feb I'll start feeding him less so he learns to go & forage.

Has to be said that anyone who uses a rescue instead of supporting (what is sometimes badly done) pup/kitten breeding has my respect and support.

Our wedding & honeymoon is coming up in 3 weeks time, but I'm hoping for an animal free one :) - well done to you both for helping that little furry beast out!

We took in another foster dog last week, Ronnie is his name, being naughty is his game right now:

He's up for a home in/around Surrey/Hants/Berks if anyones interested!

(I'm not normally one to blow my own trumpet...etc etc - but I'm proud of this site (took about half a day in total to cobble together and it gets about 200 people a day looking!))

he's a bit scarred at the mo. Honey decided she didn't like his teenage attitude and they had a big fight last night. He defended himself for a change, but I didn't like the outcome. I have had to seek some help on the matter because it wasn't nice. I really wouldn't mind but they are both really placid. Old lady v's teeanager has to be dealt with properly in doggie terms as you know

I have a 'Big Bob Jnr" on my hands I think....! He's very Gardeners World, isnt he?

Small Bob is OK at the moment though today someone did say he looked a bit "whippet-y" - I think I can agree looking at your pics

I dont know, I just hope he finds somewhere to live before Christmas (otherwise he's back in the kennels)

Hes a good lad, as long as you're OK with his head being on the gearstick when you're doing 70ish on the motorway!
