Now as most of you know i'm sellin me bike. Had an e-mail from this guy after i put it up on Gumtree, i have heard you get some right dodgy ones on there. So i wanted to check this over with people and see what they think....
Hi Stuart
Thanks a lot for your reply.I want you to know that i want the best for both of us in this transaction.I'm cool and okay with your final price which is £1800,please let me know if you will accept payment via a bank transfer to you as it's the only way i can pay you at the moment. I would have loved to come take a look at it but i am presently out of town. Please send me some pictures,i also want to believe it is in a good condition. Also as regards the payment,i need an assistance from you which is that my private shipment broker in the UK there has some shipments to pick up alongside what i am buying from you right now and i want to pay him up so that everything would be brought over to denmark here at once,so once you have recieved the funds you would deduct your funds and then please help send the remainder of the funds via western union to the shipment broker so that he can come over to your place to organise the pick up,so if this is okay and fine by you please let me know so that i can get back asap to you with the details needed for the transfer to be done and so that we can conclude this transaction fast asap, please note that funds would be transferred to you inclusive of funds for the shipment broker
Also, don't fail to reply with your name and your address& phone number(inclusive of mobile) for shipment broker for the pick up.also once he has recieved the funds he would contact you asap for the pick up.I want you to take the posting off gumtree asap if you are okay and fine with everything, expecting to hear from you soon
regards

Thinkin about sending him an e-mail back along the lines of.....
Hi Victor, as you can imagine I want everthing to go smoothly, so please to re-assure me that this is not a scam please can you send me certified copies of your drivers licence, passport and a utility bill.
How much more dodgy do you want? If I was you the only reply I would give him be "f*** off". If he is genuine then tough, at least you won't end up with no bike and no payment. You'll sell it to someone so just hold on to it for now.
Do you want to borrow my barge pole mate? I think you'll be needing it. Why sell to someone in denmark when you can sell to someone in Dagnall?
:rambo::smt065well dodgy. Why does he need your mobile number etc etc?

Sounds like the nigeria scams type thing mate. If it were me i'd steer clear and advertise the bike to uk only people. Don't take the risk. ;)
stay clear!

Thing is i could open an account somewhere, if he pays the funds i take the money close the account and run. If he dont pay the funds and his driver still turns up, i'll batter his driver and send him back with a message to give to him + a couple of broken bones too.

It's a scam m8 ... almost without a doubt ... what will happen is that they will deposit funds which will show in your account as your balance being updated, however your available funds will not increase until the payment CLEARS, and this is where they get you ... because of the haste which they impose on you to return the remainder of the money (thru Western Union - which is untraceable as far as I know!) ... so you then send them money thru Wester Union (which is almost instantaneous) and then they cancel the original transaction ... they get your money, and you get STUNG!
That's what is sounds like to me m8.
Definately a scam, I wouldn't even bother replying to him. What if a couple of blokes turn up to remove your bike, you can't take on a whole gang!!!

No. Cash, cash, cash. Dont accept anything but cash. If the proposed buyer has a problem, then he dosnt get the bike. Your bike is nice, someone WILL have it...so hold out until someone can come along with 1800 notes in cash.

My whole gang will take on then ;) but yes i know what your saying mate. Think i will reply.... Sorry mate whether your genuine or not i feel that this isn't the way i want to sell my bike. I am not comfortable with the way that the transaction and pick up are going to go about.

Feel free to adapt this response a mate of mine sent to a similar enquiry...
Frank, to be frank, I for one am not interested in your business. I suspect this to be a SNIDEY...(Glasgow vernacular for underhand)...opportunity for you to RIP THE PISH...(again Glasgow vernacular for take advantage) RIGHT OOT of decent people trying to sell genuine vehicles via a genuine website. You , Frankie, my dear boy, are not genuine. Do not try to contact me again or you will find yourself on a 7 day lie in at the Riddrie Holiday Inn.
PS. Hope its PISHING in Oslo.
Pah! What's the worst that can happen???
Report back when you find out ;o)

Take a read of this (http://www.scambuster419.co.uk/index.html)
You can have some fun with this one IF he turns out to be a scammer ... Gilbert (on the scambusters website) sends fake Western Union money receipts to them hahaha!
As others have said tho - whatever you do, DO NOT give out any personal details (address, bank account details, etc.)

Did anyone see that post on a scammers site about the bloke who scammed the scammer? Was proper funny. The bloke sent out a load of old dodgy laptops and crappy PC kit and claimed he was the one being stitched up.
Dammit, dunno what site it was on, but it was an awesome read. The scammer sending him threatening letters etc. Quality...
Tis a scam hun, steer well clear

Or ... do what some of these websites do and send him a false MTCN number and a duff answer to your "secret question", and see how long you can spin it out before he gets so pi$$ed off that he moves on to some other mug ... at least by that time, he may have wasted enough time as to actually SAVE some other mug from falling prey to his little scheme ;-)
*** btw, I am in no way suggesting that you are a mug ... unless you actually pay this guy ;-) ***

Find a way to make sure of which western union office he picks the money up from, then we all go on a little holiday, with bats.

It's a scam. To try to stop this guy from doing it again, string him along with a load of random excuses and delays for months until he gives up, just never give out bank or home details.

Will the bank charge you when they find out their cheque is false? or just remove the money from you account?

Its a scam ... I don’t even need to read it fully ...
Without even thinking any further - Is your bike so unique that he needs to import it to Denmark?? – or is it so stupidly cheap it is a cost effective over buying in Demark direct??!? ;)
If you answers to the above are ‘probably not’ … then ... well .... you know ... ;)
I've asked if I can do a direct bank transfer before. The guy didn't do Paypal and would only accept Postal Order. I needed the item quite quickly so asked him about the transer. He turned me down as well.
As for that though. I couldn't think of a better example to use as a dodgy email.

oh and if you don't mind me asking - are you getting a new bike or just raising funds?

Definite scam, its so well know now i thought you would have known this by now. Notic the funny old english, no true buyer says something along the lines, "my name is and like you to know that i'm totally honest etc etc" Its so obvious.
You could ask HIM to send the money through western union, see what he says to that. Since that is an instant money grabber.

Standard scam - the only way it could be more dodgy is if he said PS My uncle is also a fleeing diplomat from Nigeria and he has $6 billion but to get it we need your bank account details. If they don't want to come in person then they need to make sure you have the cash in your hand before you start thinking about handing them the bike.

+1. this kind of thing was very popular a while back. There is a difference between the funds being clear and you actually having the money. By the time your bank finds out that the funds don't actually exist manymore it's too late. I wouldn't touch this with a barge pole mate!

Afternoon all.
We've just had the same type of thing trying to sell my girlfriends car. It also came via Gumtree.
I expect there are people who fall for this sort of thing sadly. Which is why the scammers keep trying it. I e-mailed this twonk back & gave him totally non existent bank details. I wonder if he tried to do anything with them:D
Cheers.
P.S. Anyone want a Peugeot 205 convertible?:D

Only yesterday:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7141074.stm
An 80-year-old widow was conned out of £16,000 and almost remortgaged her home after falling for an e-mail scam.
The pensioner, from Bridgend, believed she would inherit $30m (£14.6m) after receiving an e-mail saying she was the only relative of a dead businessman.
