SV650.org,

Hello, I am a new street rider and had been looking at the SV for about a year. It beat out all the competition in my opinion, and when it went on sale last Saturday, I bought one.

Hope to meet some good folks and learn about what I dont know.

Thanks.

No, not Harry. I'm not even related to him (unfortunately)

I got a new ('07) SV naked, blue. Its the good blue, not the teal.

I'll post a pic with myself in the photo thread this weekend, for all the rubbernecks to chat about. Hopefully I dont become the subject of other "certain" users interest...

Must be a pointy hovis, its 07 :D

Bad choice, you should have got a yellow curvy, 1999, with the fairing

Me and hovis both know they are the best bikes, hovis's was so fast he had to downgrade to a fireblade, and I have to have mine restricted.

Welcome to the place where everyone argues over which is the most superior SV, for me it is definetly the curvy...as for colour, well Yellow ones are much tougher than the rest, and black ones turn peoples heads more. Tis why I got one of each.
Hope you enjoy your stay...we are all nice folk on here:smt054

Well heres my story: (a bit long)

My ability to get my CA M1 was held back by a speeding ticket i got in Arizona a couple years ago. So, I wanted to get the SV and when it went on sale i couldnt pass it up - even though I didnt have my license. So I bought it.

I then used the phone at an office I was working at in San Francisco to make the call(s) for about 3 hours. I didnt want to use up my cell minutes, cause I new any call to the DMV, AZ Justice Court, and AZ MVD would be long. After I lit a hot fire under the ass of the clerks at these institutions, I finnally managed to convice AZ to fax CA the proof that I paid my ticket, and the fact that the case was closed in '05! Youd think in this day and age they would be in electronic communication...

So, now its 2:45pm PST on 03DEC07 and I'm 56 miles north west of my insurance agent as well as the CA DMV. It gets dark around 4:45pm here right now, and I wanted to start breaking in this beautiful machine I just purchased.

Between the time above, and about 4:15pm, I managed to get south, show DMV proof of AZ ticket closure, take the written M1 permit test (and the C class renewal test) pass both, take picture, go to insurance agents office and get an insurance policy, convincing them it is a new bike and they dont need pictures of the bike right now, get home, suit up in my make shift riding gear (thick brown jacket, blue motocross gloves, old black army boots, funky grey helmet, regular jeans ) and go for a 20 minute ride.

It was worth it!

However, what wasnt worth it is the fact that on Friday afternoon (two days ago), I went for a quick ride near my house cause I just had to get on the thing, and I crashed it. Damage: bars, radiator, gear shift, turn signal, tank. It was moist ground, had rained the night before, I was impatient. Ironically it was sunny the next day. At least its on the left side, and I'm not too badly hurt.

Well, I want to ride even more now, so after I get the cash to fix it, I'll be back in action! Anyone know of any leads on SV parts in the states - CA to be exact? (thanks)

Dude, welcome to the forum, sorry to hear about your off. Unfortunately most of our members are UK based, so leads to bits in the US may be a little sparse. Have you tried www.svrider.com?

For the gearshift, a common fix is to drill a hole in however much of the arm you have left, tap it out to receive a bolt and stick a bolt through it.

For future reference (and unfortunately a little late) it's always worth getting some crash protectors on a new bike. I've gotta get some for my lovely new kwak soon. R&G get good votes from many on here.

Keep it rubber side down in future!

You say 'I'm not too badly hurt'...

...meaning what??

Hope you feel better soon. Everyone drops their bike, even if they say they don't, so don't feel too bad about it:D

Damage to body:
right chest - heavy bruising
right forearm - bruising
right shin - skin removed (by right foot peg i think)

I was only wearing jeans... learned my lesson!

Leather is a worthy investment when riding bikes, even if its a million degrees

Seen bigapes "always wear yer ferkin leathers" thread?
