Yep they are different sizes.
I had to use the battery from Liz's K5 in my K1 to get me out of a hole and I couldnt quite do the terminals up on the battery as its taller, I'm pretty sure its narrower length and breadth wise to.

I thought it was just slightly taller? Not sure. Mine has a taller battery in and it works fine, though it meant ditching the fusebox tray thing...

What exact model number have you got? (I need a new batt and might as well buy the largest capacity I can as it is a lottery getting it started on a cold am after a weekend in the garage!! ;)).

Yuasa YTZ12S... It's not much more capacity but it has much higher output (CCA) so it's much stronger at starting. Best Embee tip ever I think, I love mine, I dug the bike out of a snowdrift once and it started first press

If you're looking for a YTZ12S, get to a Honda dealer, as they're fitted to SP1's, injected Blackbirds, & a few others. Genuine Honda batteries are made by Yuasa, & the above retails at £49.99 inc VAT. Whereas a Yuasa from the importers cost me £63!!......Guess which one I buy?
Cheers.

Afternoon all.
Your local dealer may have bumped the price to make a few extra bob, which isn't really on if they're an official Honda dealer.
The correct part number is; 31500-MCF-643. Hondas RRP is £50 exactly including VAT.
Cheers.

Mine was £50 from a regular battery dealer, plus postage. There's a Varta which is allegedly the same, though if that's true I don't know. It's the same dimensions and claimed spec at least.
The YTZ14S probably fits too, I went with the 12 because back then the 14 was stupidly expensive, but not it's £55 from Interbike.
I got a YTZ12-S a couple of months ago from the local Honda dealer, exactly £50.
Someone has pointed out that the YTZ-14S is physically the same size as the 12. It is according to the Yuasa site, but I've not seen one in the flesh.
(...and cheers, Northy! )

give my honda (http://www.portsmouthmotorcycles.co.uk/contact.asp) a ring ... not only were they not in stock but £60 (potentially +vat) … its not fair!

Get the 14 from Interbike then, £55. Or, if you prefer, give me £25 plus postage and I'll get a 14, and you can have my 12 :D

Ok, so the YTZ14 seems a popular choice, I see from spec sheets it has a 230EN cold start figure 11Ah
The YT12A-BS which is the stock SV batt has 140EN 11Ah
The YTZ12 has 200EN but only 9Ah
Anyway! :D ...
There has been no mention if the cold start performance of the GEL batteries!
You can get a CT12A-BS (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CT12A-BS-CT12ABS-GEL-BATTERY-FITS-CAGIVA-MV-AGUSTA-ETC_W0QQitemZ250155441500QQihZ015QQcategoryZ36796Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem) (YT12A-BS yuasa?), which is the same dimensions, but filled with gel.
Anyone know what the Cold start figure on the CT12A-BS is?
According to the Yuasa (http://www.yuasabatteries.com/batteries.asp) site the
YTZ10-S is 8.6Ah + 190 CCA = 3.2kg , 150 x 87 x 93mm
YTZ12-S is 11Ah + 210 CCA = 3.7kg , 150 x 87 x 110mm
YTZ14-S is 11.2Ah + 230 CCA = 3.9kg , 150 x 87 x 110mm
YT12A-BS is 9.5Ah + 175 CCA = 2.8kg , 150 x 87 x 105mmThe clue is in the weight.
I had a YTZ10-S on my Deauville from new and it started that with absolutely no problem. Replaced it with a 12 because it would fit (didn't realise at the time that the 14 is the same physical size).

But what about the Gel batteries colds start?? ;) Doesn't look like Yuasa do sealed at factory, use it at any angel gel batteries ... unlike the CT12A-BS
(http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CT12A-BS-CT12ABS-GEL-BATTERY-FITS-CAGIVA-MV-AGUSTA-ETC_W0QQitemZ250155441500QQihZ015QQcategoryZ36796Q QrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem) Which could be used upside down presumably?

Hold on a second ... :smt103 I think I have just twigged something after reading some blurb and putting 2 and 2 together ...
Varta
"All Varta YT series "Liquifix" batteries use AGM technology which consists of an Absorbent Glass-fibre Matting between the lead plates inside the battery. This material absorbs and stabilises the electrolyte so the battery can be mounted in any orientation and also allows higher discharge rates without causing internal damage to the battery. AGM batteries are often referred to as “Gel” batteries because the electrolyte appears to be solid but they are also sometimes known as “Dry” or “Sealed” batteries. "
Yuasa
"Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Technology is an advanced battery design used in Yuasa's Maintenance Free Batteries that eliminates water loss. Once it's filled with acid the battery is permanently sealed - so you'll never need to fill it with water or check the acid level."
'Liquifix' (LF), AGM or MF is basically the designation for a gel battery (not actually gel filled at all!! 8-[) ... the fact some look 'plugged' and others look properly sealed with hard plastic cover (like the CT) is not a clear indicator of type ...
Which means me having opened up my YT batteries and adding some distilled water as they looked a bit 'dry' might not have been such a good idea
Anyone know if this is detrimental to a gel battery?
