anyone else think this game is fantastic, my brothers just bought a xbox 360 with halo 3 and im sat here waching him play it with mouth wide open. usualy sequals are rubish but the storyline and the graphics are fantastic, like watching a film:smt045
wasnt going to bother with the 360 but i really want one now, completely astonished :smt103
I want one quite badly, but I'm tight and can never justify spending the money.
considering the fact you guys from west end still point at planes i'm not surprised something as extravagant as halo 3 would leave you open mouthed

the PS3 is where it's at ;) check out the GT5 footage!
You cant get a PS3 for one game that isnt even out yet though :( I'm a PS dedicated person, but I'm having to be a traitor as the PS3 is taken so long getting off the ground, theres just no decent games for it and the online gaming is poo.

PS3's are bunk ! ;)
If you want your knickers in a knot have a look at Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare on a 40inch LCD 1080p TV. IT'S BONER TIME !!

only buy an xbox if you like sending things back. some stores have a 33% return rate. PS3's are awsome, but for the very best graphics you cant beat a PC, COD 4 looks more like a movie than a game.

Is it pretty rubbish? I heard it was actually pretty good, and I knwo there's more development going in to it.
There's quite a few good games out already for the PS3, far more than the bloody wii! First quarter of next year will be the rise of it though :)
USA sales figures for consoles
Hardware sell-through for November are as follows, with The simExchange predictions in brackets for comparison purposes.
Wii - 950,000 (1,060,000)
Xbox 360 - 750,000 (728,000)
PS3 - 420,000 (410,000)
PS2 - 485,000 (n/a)
PSP - 650,000 (468,000)
DS - 1,350,000 (1,300,000)
GBA - 170,000 (n/a)
PS3 ranks 2nd from last in terms of sales -even the old PS2 is still outselling the PS3. LOL!
360 is by far and away the top selling next-gen console.
Oh, and by the way, the new 360 chipset uses less power and genrates less heat than the old one and solves the overheating issue. Buy one with a HDMI connector built in with confidence.

I just did. What's so special?
Most of what I saw wasn't gameplay, just silicon graphics rendered video - not realtime.

I have to admit, in hindsight I would have bought a 360 when they came out as the online play is unbeatable (although I'd be on my 4th by about now;)). I do think the PS3 is the console to get now though, I just need to raise the money :)
(I don't know who would buy a DS)

But that's the rather pants Arcade or "Core" version. You know you can't even watch replays of Forza 2 without a HDD connected, so you'd have to buy that seperately on top of that.
I'm in the same boat as you though. I want one, but can't justify the outlay just to play one or two games.

+ it's out of date after about 6mnths and you have to continously upgrade the graphics card/motherboard/chip set just to keep abreast of the top titles ;)

This is another thing that is confunsing me at the moment?? some have HDMI some dont?
A lad I know has just bought an Arcade from game and even this has the HDMI port, you just need to buy the cable? or am I missing something here.
I'm tempted to just get the core with 2 wireless controllers and 256mb memory card as iam unlikely to fill a fardrive with music and download games off live, which is the only benefit i can see of having a more expensive console, again i may be missing something?......... But them the premium and elite arnt all that much more.
SOME ONE HELP AND DEFINE WHAT THE DIFFERENCES ARE :smt088 :smt056:smt056
Just been reading the info on the arcade, it has the hdmi thing now built in, also has a new heat sink pad to stop overheating and the red light problem. So sound like it has most of the technology now except the harddrive built in.
If any gaming elitists can confirm the fine details it would help me a fair bit when deciding how much to spend.

Confirmed.
HDD is essential only if you want to download content (extra maps for a game, updates, demos, arcade games, video, music, original xbox1 games etc).
At minimum to play online you need a memory card to store your profile, an XBL subscription and broadband. If you can connect your 360 using cabled LAN rather than wireless you need no extra hardware.
Since 4th Dec the machine can now play back divx, xvid, mp4 video either from disk or streamed from a pc.

True, but a newly built PC with better graphics than a ps3 will still have better graphics than a PC in 6 months, even if it is no longer the best graphics card. you dont have to upgrade, but you can if you want.

You spend half the time with PCs building and fixing them. **** that. I'd rather have a PS3 anyday- more sociable, less hassle and what you lose in graphics it makes up in gameplay
jimmy__riddle
11-12-07, 02:33 PM
yeah you might have to fix them if something goes wrong, but the gameplay is far better on a pc, for a start you have more controls, and with most games its easier to aim on a pc cos you have a mouse. aiming with a console controller is slow and half the time twitchy. plus the online gaming on PCs is better.

But the accessibility of PC games has to work in it's favour. Much more likely to sit back with some tins on the sofa playing a PS than a PC
jimmy__riddle

i guess it depends where you wanna put your PC. I hook mine up to the LCD TV, and play on the sofa.
But i think its gone off topic.
Halo 3 is awsome, and equally addictive as the last 2

I agree, I am a PC man, and I just can't beleive people raving about Halo 3 when it is all a bit cartoony and arcady. I haven't changed my PC for 1.5 years now, and I am still playing the best games on it, that are FAR better than consoles. Crysis for instance, better graphics than any console by far. And I can't stand console gamepads, mouse and keyboard is infinitely better for FPS!
my sons got one for his xmas from his dad and halo 3. he played halo3 at his pals house a few months ago and completed the easy level in an hour and a half. he will be so excited on xmas day. peace and quiet for me. was going to buy him some other games for it but they are very expensive so just giving him money for his birthday (29.12) so he can buy his own.

£29.12 won't go far!
Oh I see, you mean that's the date of his birthday (LOL)

That may be true, but I bet you spent nearly £300 on the GFX card alone if it was bought 18months ago and can still play the latest games with good, PS3 beating graphics and decent (60+) framerates.
You can't knock the consoles for value for money of hardware. People say PC games are cheaper, and they often are, but you'd need to buy a lot of games to start recouping some of the outlay you shelled out when you bought your £600+ box. And yes, you can use a PC for more than just games, but you don't need an uber machine to do that, a £299 laptop would suffice, and most of us probably have at least that in our homes anyway, so this is a purely "for games" debate.
FTR I'm a PC "gamer", although my system is now getting pretty old. I only play a few online racing simulators that would run on just about anything you can buy today that has a dedicated gfx card. I like consoles too because of how well everything works. No worries about whether your system will handle it.
While it was always going to be tough for Sony to put a good spin on the latest NPD figures, for Microsoft, things were a little easier. The 360 kicked the PS3's ****, a 360 release topped the software sales charts and two Microsoft first-party titles (Mass Effect & Halo 3) made the top 10. And aside from a failed attempt to gain "victory" for the month by citing "most dollars spent" (sorry MS, we count numbers sold, not dollars spent), that's exactly what they focused on.
Xbox 360 - Consumers voting with their wallets, Xbox 360 winning this holiday Fueled by the greatest holiday lineup in video game history, consumers spent more holiday dollars on Xbox 360 consoles, games and accessories than any other platform in the month of November according to NPD.
#1 in Game Sales: Four of the Top Ten Titles are on Xbox 360, compared to three on the Wii and two on the PS3.
Xbox 360 holds the #1 title with "Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare" (Activision), selling nearly 1.5 million units on Xbox 360, compared to 444,000 units on the PS3.
#1 in Total Revenue: Xbox 360 leads in total revenue with $763 million compared to $587 million for Wii and $364 million for PS3 according to NPD.
#1 in Game Quality: Xbox 360 delivers the highest-rated games lineup this generation, with 6 out of the top 10 rated games through the end of November according to Metacritic, the world-wide authority in entertainment reviews.

You are quite right, my total PC cost £900 when I built it. But it is by far and away worth it for the wealth of RTS and FPS games that PC's do way better and they pretty much all cost £25 new now. Plus I do all my games, media, videos, photos, photoshopping on it too. Consoles certainly aren't crap, but if you are talking solely about the best graphics and realism, good PC's win hands down every time.

I love Halo3, finished on Normal and Heroic level but the online play is awesome. Knocks spots off Resistence Fall of Man for me. However, just started playing Call Of Duty 4 - even shorter than Halo 3 and not really played on-line but absolute stunning game. Should do an Org'rs team play

i completed it this morning, not really a cliff hanger at the end so i hope there is going to be a 4th one :(
also what happened at the end i didn't get it, did the master chief die? you only get to see the arbater in the end clip and not master chief.
plus some of the music bares similarities with the film Road To Perdition (great film), same producer perhaps?
I have got it, touched it last night and wasnt that impressed, addicted to call of duty 4 though on Live. On halo the first level bored me, jumping about a small green landscape, couldnt figure out what guns did what and who i was supposed to be shooting at. I guess futuristic games arnt for me, will give it another go at some point.
my son completed this yesterday. on easy level im assuming

I love COD4 but I don't understand the online gameplay. It usually consists of me running around being cannon fodder for everyone else camped out with sniper rifles, and if I ever find someone else, i can unload a whole magazine into them, only for them to turn round and kill me with their sidearm or bare hands.

Practice makes perfect, Even **** hot people die 5+ times a game, they just get 30+ kills, knowing the map perfect helps alot, know where your going to spawn next or knowing where the next headquarter will generate makes life 100x easier.
Also if you are using the wrong gun for the environment its impossible. An Ak47 will spray bullets everywhere in a small room but wont kill anyone, they will beable to walk right upto you and stab you in the neck before they are dead.
You need to get ranked 20+ before life starts getting easier and you start getting decent guns, attachments and perks.
My tag is GSP1984 if anyone fancies a game of COD4
