View Full Version : Liverpool riders.
To all those aware of Edge Lane. I made the mistake of choosing to go down there on a Saturday afternoon. Possibly the worse decision I have ever made!
not that i am from liverpool, but why, what is wrong with it?
It was just the time of day. Utter chaos. Lanes shut etc. It's only as I am new to the road really and don't want to dabble too much with filtering yet :(

Edge Lane? Right off the end of the M62 and down in to city centre no? Done that trip a few times in the past.

Had to drive (or rather sit and wait in the car for nearly half an hour) this week, was an absolute nightmare and wouldn`t use Edge Lane again by choice!
I didn't even need to head that way at all. Oops.

lol, well doubt you`ll be heading back that way again!!!! I only venture that way when its related to work
I went through there this week and it wasn't bad, filter to the front. I kicked a few of the traffic cones over a few inches at one set of lights and made myself a space. Don't ride in a car's blind spot and watch out for the surface changes, some car drivers jink left to right when that happens because they're muppets.
Edge Lane? Love it :)
It's great fun, go into town that way every day & just for fun come back home using the same road in the opposite direction. Even when it's down to one lane you can still make good progress down there.
Seriously, this is why you have a bike. Filter through the cars, get to the front & make progress. Just dont follow the morons on the scooters dashing down the coned off areas, that's just asking for a blue light to start flashing.
Anyway look on the bright side, all the cones go (allegedly) this Friday and dont come back till Jan 2nd.
Good to know you are using that bike now, hopefully you've got the parking sorted :D

Used to use Edge Lane most of the time when I was working in Salford ... and not long after I'd passed my test ... you soon learn to filter ... just don't do what I did ... traffic was too close together to get thru the middle, so I filtered down the inside of the left-hand lane and then some muppet decides that they can't be bothered waiting in the queue of traffic and turns left without looking - right across the front of the bike. Granted I probably shouldn't have been there, but then, had I been a cyclist I'd probably have been tanking it thru there and been wiped out!
Take it easy filtering ;-) oh and if you don't like it ... try using West Derby road (if that's a possibility?) ... it's a bit better (wider) for filtering, but doesn't seem to get as snarled up as Edge Lane ... only downside being you then have to use Queens Drive to get to the M62 - and the lanes there aren't quite as wide, and you seem to have even more random-lane-changers down there, so beware ;-)
Pete
I'll bear that in mind, cheers. :)
Alas the parking is not sorted yet, I have to harrass my Dad to let me into the parking by his to pinch tghe bike for a few hours. Fingers crossed shortly after Christmas the bike will be parked at mine.
Could say it's a blessing at the moment though, with this frosty weather!

Yeah, I know what you mean ... I'm in the cage most days at the moment :( If I had a shorter commute I wouldn't mind the cold weather, but there's just a few too many risks in the icy weather and on a 50 mile commute (one way) trying to stay warm AND CONCENTRATE is a lot harder than I imagined ;-)
That's it. I get really drained after a run out and about.
Been informed a chap my Dad knows came off on a bit of ice the other day on his way home from work. Nothing major but he put a hole in his engine casing. :(
