I am a drumming fanatic, but I find Phil just kind of hits all the drums at the same speed all the time. No expression (apart from the "curling one off" expression on his face :-P). Try Derek Roddy the Nile drummer for drumming; more accurate, lots of variation, tunes on the cymbals, left to right hand snare swapping, excellent kick technique you can barely see his legs moving. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ehxkUVaWvI

Phil Collins is a really overrated drummer IMHO
If you want to hear some real drumming check out the clips on my myspace lol ;)
Well ok maybe not but search you tube for Buddy Rich & watch these two drum trios (at Buddy Rich Memorial) as they're all v talented:
Dave weckl, Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gekqb0FWSPc)

Louis Bellson, Gregg Bissonette, Dennis Chambers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQVsiLXH1Tk)

Ditto comments about Phil collins. I like his style as a band drummer, but as a soloist he is not so great. Having said that, the drum duet PC and Chester Thompson did at Manchester this summer as pretty amazing.

Most of the drummers on here are damn good, but none of them seem to think melodically when playing a solo. Some are just going through some execercises at speed. The guy (Derek Roddy?) was awesome, with some excellent work on two bass (or kick) drums - just lost the tunefulness.

I like Cozy Powell's work because it is more melodic.

You don't get much more rhythmic melodic phrasing than Buddy Rich, from a drummers perspective

Bloody hell! Made my last comment before having the chance to listen to the trios posted by drummer. They are amazing. forget my previous comments about melody - Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd and vinnie colaiuta together were magic. :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notworthy::notwo rthy::notworthy:

Two words: Neil Peart.

Another drummer I've really enjoyed watching is Chris Sharrock who's been playing with Robbie Williams.

I first saw him at Lightning Seeds / Terry Hall gig where he played both sets. Then, when Lightning Seeds were touring Jollification, Ian Broudie stuck him stage front. All these great little breaks as sticks were being tossed into the air.
