Can machine some spacers easily enough for the front bolts, are the rubber things which fit underneath really necessary?

yes.

Please elaborate, what is likely to break if I leave them out?

And why does the chewys kit not include some bigger ones?

vibration.tank needs to be rubber mounted or your tank bracket can crack.
I have welded few of this because people junk stock rubber.
leave rubber and bushing in tank as is stock and just add spacers under it.

Righto

Equally, I suppose if you made your spacer out of a softer material, like the everpopular doorstop tank spacer, that could also serve as a vibration isolator?

dont know what that is but whatever you use make sure bolt and washer is not touching metal on tank.you basically have to isolate tank from everything on all sides.reason rubber wraps top, bottom and ID of tank mount ear.

Yup Northwinds idea would work, but I'm going to stick closer to stock.

My spacer will be as if the frame has grown upwards 10mm, keeping the vibration isolating rubber mounts which the tank normally has.

Will find some doorstops or similar material to make the rubber blocks higher at the back.

Anybody got any pics of chewy's kit or pics of what your using if not chewy's?

Cheers

Don't seem to... Not much to see really, they're just a wee aluminium spacer.

Like a tube? (i.e. the bolt goes through the spacer)

How long are they?

Think of a few washers stacked up, thats basically it, but solid.

You put that under the tank bolt at the front and it holds the front of the tank up a bit.

They;re about 10mm long

Chewy's kit comprises of this lot:

Which does this:

I'll make my own, I'm sure the hardware shop up the road will have all I need.

Could do it by stacking washers, or some bits of pipe.

Dont wish to appear thicker than normal but why raise the tank in the first place, is it for increased airflow ? and if so does it make a lot of difference ?

yorkie_chris
19-12-07, 01:27 PM
Yes, increases airflow.
Probably not a lot. #shrug#

It gives an extra 100bhp all through the rev range and makes your testicles grow to the size of grapefruit.

Where can we find Chewy and partake in a purchase of his amazing testicle-increasers?

Pointies have no air flow sensor (older ones anyway). So increasing air flow will just lean out the mixture, won't it?

yorkie_chris

They have airbox pressure sensor. With anything if you make enough changes to increase performance at all then you will need to remap.

Increased induction roar

I used a couple of 13mm under the tank to riase it. Worked okay but never noticed any difference to induction noise or power.

yorkie_chris

If there is any power benefit it is an incremental one.

Aye and I wouldn't notice it if it kicked me up the a**e!:D I just hope collectively it all helps! :)

If anyone wants to carry out this mod, I've got a selection of these 'tank spacers' made from aircraft aluminium, will clean up great. No bolts though. Half the price of chewys.
