Morning all. Can anybody recommend a good brand of tyres for the SV650? I will be needing some early in the new year.

Cheers! :D

Graham.

Theres lots really, and as fizz has said read through the tyre section. Given the time of year, it might be good to get something soft on for more grip; some companies manufacture a dual compound tyre (michelin road pilot 2 for example) which are harder in the middle to last a bit longer

All depends on which type of tyre are you looking for? Sports, sports touring etc

Just looking for something that will last, provide grip in all round weather conditions etc.

You will be wanting a sports touring tyre then. The Metzeler Z6 is popular with riders on this forum but there are more recently designed tyres on the market now. Michelins pilot road 2 is one of these and has done well in tests ive read.

Cool. Any thoughts on the Avon Storms?

Conti Road Attacks - I'll give them a bump, giving me a lot of notice before they feel like they are letting go.

I find round ones with air in them are quite good.

Hope that helps.

Yes indeed. I have Avon Storms fitted to the Dullsville winter hack. I thought the Road Attacks were good. I think the Avon Storms are better. Much better. Very very confidence inspiring wet weather tyres.

They work well from cold, warm up nice and quickly, have deep tread and are alleged to give high mileage.

They sound spot on for me. :)

BT021's are my next purchase very very soon - 100miles/day of dual carriage way and mway tend to **** tyres royally.....

Z6's at the mo and have done me well. Next I'm going for the pilot road 2's as I've heard good things about them.

Yes, very good - a couple of mates running these and they both rave about them. I'm running the predecessors the AV45's which are also very good. Will last longer than a lot of other tyres.

Michelin Pilot Road 2s last longer and have better wet weather grip.

I liked the AV45/46 a lot, shame they dropped them from the range as I hear the Storm doesn't last as long. The old 45/46 gripped well too:

BT021's on at the moment ... grip is fantastic (well, they are only gripping to the path in the back garden at the moment :D) ... had an Avon Storm on the rear last, and had about "average" tyre wear (probably about 7 - 8,000 miles), wasn't too impressed with the Storm to be honest, but then I think that's probably cos it was paired with a OE Dunlop up front :( Might give the PR2's a try next ;-)

The storm is lasting ages for me, about 4k miles IIRC and they're just getting past the 1mm markers (the ones they put on to show when the puncture warranties run out)

Talking to the local mechanic he says most people who get soem come back for another set when theirs are done.

That's pretty good, my info must have been flawed then. The old AV45/46s lasted about 9K rear and 11K front on my old Bandit 600, with a trackday thrown in as well. My ex was running 021s on her Bandit 650 and they squared off much quicker and only gave her 6K miles from a rear, she swopped to AV45/46 and they were still on the bike 10K later when she pxed it against her old Daytona 600. She loved the Avons too.

I'm waiting for some decent weather so I can go on the SV and try these Diablo Stradas out in anger. So far they've been really good in wet and cold conditions, but I hear they grip well on warm dry roads too.

I can't give any great info on the Pilot Road 2s I have on my Daytona, because they just work and work really well no matter what the road surface or temperature is like. I just don't notice any bad things about them, so I assume they're doing a great job.

The Avon Storm ST are AV55's

Tyre wear on the Storms is something I am looking at closely. I bought them because of the statement from Avon saying they are a high mileage tyre.

Hi,

I fitted the Bridgestone 021's recently. Really very good and a good move on from the 020's I previously had.
021's are excellent all rounders and offer particularly god grip in the wet.
I got about 6,000 from my last rear (020).

Hope this helps:D
