That's great but don't forget that there are lots of other air ambulance charities which are desperate for support.

Peanuts really compared against the cost of declaring war on foreign countries, or rescuing building societies. Shame you cant dictate where your tax goes.

It was a couple of chaps on www.Pistonheads.com that started the collection after Hammond crashed. IIRC it was because people were suggesting sending flowers to the hospital where he was and this is generally not considered a good idea in an intensive care ward. One of the chaps suggested donating to the Air Ambulance instead and another one set up the JustGiving account. The rest, as they say, is history.

As far as I know, the air ambulances don't get any of our taxes (apart from what they can claim back on donations).

They're funded completly by donations.

We have just given another £500 to the Essex one this month, thats £2000 this year
IMHO a very underated service who do an excellent job on the funding they receive and
one of my favourite charities

That depends where you are in the world I think. Both of the two (two!) helicopter air ambulances which cover Scotland are publicly funded as is one of the two Sussex aircraft.

God only knows how much these things cost though...
