Being that members of the Org are from all walks of life I am wondering if any happen to own or run any form of a Music shop.

My gf has limited expirence in playing the Clarinet and would like it try it again a number of years later, I am aware that there are a number of different sounding Clarinets for different ranges.

What would be a good one to restart with? Also does anyone local ish to Kent/South East London know where I could hire/buy one possibly as a present (all a bit hush hush  ) I have seen a few around the best one so far in Reading.

Cheers in advance and happing crimbo

Choo ,
Try :- www.hansonclarinets.com (http://www.hansonclarinets.com)
I bought my wife's Sax from them after extensive internet investigation and it's a great instrument.
Very helpful company with a good reputation. They did do a scheme where you could return the instrument if you don't like it ; they charged you £15 for every month you had it.
Do visit some Clarinet forums and check out their recommendations.

ABC music do a rental scheme 3 months with the opportunity to buy at the end if you like it. They have various branches so worth looking them up on Google to see if there is one near you.

Buffet and Yamaha are good brands. Buffet B12 is a good one to start on if you have not played for a while and are not sure how seriously you will take it. New they are about £200. Next one in the Buffet range would be the E11 which is wooden and about £600.

Be careful to avoid really cheap ones on Ebay with no brand as they are often not very good.

Denmark St just off Tottenham Court Road is where all the music shops are.

Also, down stairs at the virgin megastore (or zit - or whatever its new name is) on the corner of TCRd & Oxford Street.
