View Full Version : Paint a front wheel black?
Should I paint a front silver wheel black (to match the back) before I sell it? Or will I make such a **** poor job I shouldn't bother?
If so, what paint to use?
Thanks
you (imo) would have to arosol it, it would prob look beeter with matching wheels, but if the front wheel paint job looks poor, it could look worse?
lets see a piccy as it is

Stu, I'd be inclined be to have the front professionally painted or powder coated in other to get a good match or buy a front wheel(obvious, I know...).
A case of doing the maths etc, I suppose.
Ben
that would look better with a black front wheel, i dont think it would put me of buying it though? (how come its silver?)
i recon your looking at £70+ to get it done by a pro, if you arosol it £10ish which will look just as good, if you can paint, dont use a brush, i did on the blade, but i dont care
i thought you had a blue one

I would prefer that the seller told me he had stuffed the bike rather than waste time trying to cover it up with black paint.
If it has been straightened or checked properly there should be no problem being open.

imo i would have it powder coated, hard to decide which colour would look best though:-kalthough black would be easier to match up.

i work for a paint company in manchester so i know that powder coating will be by far the best option.
if you aerosol straight onto alloy, it does not matter what type of paint you use, it will come off eventually.
powder will be there long after the guy you sell to has finished with the bike.
make sure that whoever does the job for you uses POLYESTER powder
not epoxy polyester.

The silver wheel just makes it look like you've had a smash. Powdercoat it

Black frame, black back wheel. It's rare to back into things on a bike.
Anyone with any savvy will suss its been painted or powder coated. I think the part numbers will be different.
The first SV I looked at had aerosol painted black rims - It put me off buying it. I'd look for a match or sell it like it is.

If you get one powdercoated, do the other, powdercoat always looks a bit different to paint. It's definately the best option overall IMO, but then it's also more expensive (remember to factor in bearing costs) so maybe not the best option here.
If it was me in this position, I'd spray it, but I don't know what your own experience is with paint (if any), the first job almost always sucks and wheels aren't simple. I could give it a finish good enough that it'd not be eyecatching, the hard part would be not making it overtly better than the OEM finish! Spraying both would be a good option if this became an issue. Chassis Black would give a pretty solid finish but it's tricky to get it to give a consistent finish, it tends to spray dry which gives some very glossy patches and some very matt patches, and it's high in solids so it pools. I wouldn't use the regular Halfords stuff, it's stupidly soft even with the clear coat and for this, you wouldn't want to clear it. Their engine paint would be a reasonable option, it'll give a similiar overall finish to the OEM paint, if done right. Or loads of companies make wheel paint.
I've got an SV rear wheel in silver. I'll swap you, if you want... You'd need to change the bearings and spacer to suit since it's a curvy one, is all.

What are you on about?
I said it makes it look likes its been in a smash, meaning that the FRONT had been in the smash. The wheels are black as standard
