View Full Version : Another drink driver off the road.
This morning around 2ish heard a massive smash.
It was without a doubt vehicle hitting vehicle. Jumped out of be and looked out of the window. It would seem that a car had smashed into the side of another parked car and continued along the road and parked in his own drive.
The owner of the driven into car came running out and immediately went to the other house and started to argue and shout at the woman who's car it was. She was in her night clothes so it was quite obvious she had not been driving her own car. No sign of the driver mind.
I watched for a while and it became quite obvious both parties had decided to settle it in the morning. I thought I'm not having this. This looks like a cover up to me. So the Old Bill got a phone call. The arrived within a few minutes and the end result was the son of the woman being carted off down the police station.
I then heard the owner of the hit into car talking to the sister of the arrested son stating they had told him he shouldn't use the car as he was drunk. It would seem however the didn't object enough and let him drive anyway.
Just goes to show that they are all as thick as thieves around here. In fact one man who came out of the 'victims' house was shouting at the top of his voice some rather derogatory remarks to the police.
Never a dull moment on the BigApe's housing estate.
Anyway, that's one less drink driver on the roads this christmas.
+1 BA. And a nice little Chrismas present for the driver!
Good on ya for taking action.
Good on you for doing that. What would they have said if a drunk had killed a relative oh thats ok we will sort it in the morning??? I think not.
Well done Simon, bonus it was just an empty car he hit!
Good work.
Wot he said +1

Hooray!
These people shouldn't be allowed to breed.
Saw them all outside their house having a big joke and laugh about it this morning. If nothing else it has proved to myself I did the right thing.

Thank-you. I love feeling that some people out there are willing to help us out!
Thanks again.

Whoa there Crockett! Surely the rozzers are there to help the public out? Otherwise we're in a totalitarian, police state...comrade?

good bloody work !

Indeed it was. The Chav's that live across the road crashed into a chav's car that lives behind us. How ironic is that :?:

;o)
But how can we expect the Police to help the public if we don't help them :???:
Oh, I know, let's expect a policeman to be standing on every single street corner 24/7 ;)

Yes, and getting a drink driver off the roads is a public service is it not?
The fact that in this case somebody else helped the coppers to do their job is irrelevent.
(on the other hand there are many things which should never be reported to the police...)

I still fail to understand how speed cameras can identify drink drivers as they are supposed to do the job of traffic plods.
Nice one ape.
I once failed a breathalyser. Sorry to admit it. But fortunately the blood test vindicated me. So I still sit on my high horse and condemn all drink/drug drivers.

I'm fairly convinced that somebody who's supped half a bottle of scotch is far more dangerous than somebody doing 33 in a 30.
But oh well, they can't earn as much ££ out of doing the right thing :p

If they follow the law of needing a licence...

They do need help. Police are just people trained in the law and the art of filling in paper work and get paid a lot to do it. We have to help them uphold our laws which are there to keep us safe.

I think it should become 0 alcohol when driving... that way there is NO chance of going over it on accident!

No unfortunatly they dont. TBH imo speeding in 30's is bad, as thats where the people are. In 60's I think it should be a bit more lax... as long as its safe speeding (YES there IS such a thing!).

Well done that man.
I once failed a breathalyser. Sorry to admit it. But fortunately the blood test vindicated me. So I still sit on my high horse and condemn all drink/drug drivers.
I also failed a breathalyser once because my girlfriend got rushed to hospital, I panicked and took the car (I know I shouldn't have but my girlfriend was my only concern at that point.)
I got stopped, told the cops what was going on after the negative test, and to be honest, they were more than decent about the whole situation, they even let me make a call on my mobile while in the back of the car on the way to the station.
The machine had me 1mg over the legal limit (lets just say I couldn't believe it as I wasn't out for a quiet one) but luckily they don't prosecute until 5mg over the legal limit.
Now I make sure my car is nowhere near me when I'm drinking as I don't wanna make another careless mistake that could cause harm to someone and because I despise drink drivers.
I agree with the 0mg limit in theory but this would mean that you couldn't drive for 2 days after drinking, and certain cold, cough and flu remedies among other things could get you banned!!

Well done for reporting it. I'm involved in local Neighbourhood watch and if we all did what you did there's be a lot less crime.
Having said that, I'd be surprised if they don't wangle their way out of it, as they weren't caught in the act.
"Well m'lord I did have a bump on the way back, and I was so shook up I needed a stiff drink as soon as I got in the house to steady my nerves"
People will find any old loophole in the law to get off these offences.
Of the whole estate. It is only Jo and I that do the Neighbourhood watch thing and report anything to the police. The rest of the neighbourhood are too scared of the repercussions of being found out being a snitch. Windows have had bricks put through them and other things besides.
So far we have been too court once with the result of the youth being tagged. He was the worst offending person on the estate and it really is a lot quieter now. We also feared the backlash but decided we didn't want to live on estate where it turned into a lawless place after dark.
With careful wording and the threat of using video evidence (which we don't have) we have also managed to get all the speeding chavs to slow down round the estate. This worried me the most as they used to really put the accelerator down going round the bend directly outside my house. It would seem they were banned from the local Tesco store and used the estate instead.
We are also seen quite often with the local police who come round for a brew anytime they find themselves on the estate for whatever reason. It is quite possible that they know it was us that called the police this time. But I am not prepared to live with what goes on round here any longer.

Glad someone noticed & I wasn't just adding it to inflame my rsi.....though my other hobby........
;o)
dobbing in all the drink drivers wouldn't work over here in the US.
IF I did that I wouldn't have any neighbours or work collegues. I'd say at least 50% of everyone who drinks with me afterwork is drunk and drives home.... its institutionalised out here :smt067:smt067
Fair play to standing up to all the nutters on your estate, Goes to show that a lot of these chavs and troublemakers are just bullies, who expect noone to stand up to them.

Good for you Si.
If the friends of the lad that knocked my mate over had actually grown a spine and stood up to him he would never have got in the car and he would never have mounted the pavement at 60mph after loosing control of his car after being nearly 3 times over the drink drive limit and my mate Pete would still be here now.
well done Mr Ape man. I called the police one night as there was someone breaking into the flats behind me. He was being so loud he woke me up, thought someone was at the raptor again. phoned the police 2 police vans and 3 police cars pulled up. they came to my door to get me to confirm where the breakin was taking place. turns out it was a drunk guy who had forgotten his key and was breaking into his own house. lol
now would you crash into a drunk driver (you knew 100%) to cause them to stop and call the police to get them nicked?? I would.

Nice one BigA, you are a brave man but hopefully people on the estate will start supporting you more visually as time goes on.

You'd hope wouldn't you. But for everyone else it's a case of "so long as it's them getting the bother and not us"

It hard to blame people for keeping their heads down when nobody is making a stand but when somepne like you sticks their head above the parapet then you hope it would inspire others to at least show some support. Unfortunately its not surprising they don't. Hope things get better for you.
Si - you never know it might be that there are other people on the estate that think like you and Jo. They are too scared perhaps to say anything themselves but are glad someone else is. In time maybe they too will be able to stand up and say something.
In my experience the majority of people are generally decent and good; the bad ones are in the minority but make the most noise so everyone thinks they are the majority. If enough of the good ones make themselves heard then things can start to change
