Where to park in London :)

I'm intending to go to London for the New Year to do a bit of shopping and watch the fireworks. Problem is I don't live in London so I'm going to need somewhere to park the car for the day. I thought about leaving the car at a tube station and getting the tube in so can anyone recommend a good one to go to? I will be coming in from the South West up the M3.

I used to use Kew and tube in but the residents parking zone (weekdays) has extended so getting a space near can be hit and miss. Last time I booked some Heathrow airport parking and just got the tube from terminal 1. I use holidayextras who often have offers, otherwise a pricey option. I'm not sure you are *meant* to do this tho but I wasnt the only one ;-)

Search for a simialr thread I started in Soho Massive, some other ideas there as well.

We used to park in the side streets near the Hammersmith Bus and Tube station and then get the tube in from there. It was a few years ago and the residents only parking bays we're begining to creep in so I dont know if you'd be able to do that now though.

Get a train up. Easier, chaeper and less hassle. Just book the tickets in advance on Trainline.com.

Failing that, park round hear our house. No residents parking and direct line into Charing cross. Thats Elemers end if you want to know :)

Just had a look, it's £33 return and theres four of us going. My petrol should only cost about £15ish. I really want to get the train but it's so bloody expensive!!!

Getting a parking ticket in any London borough will set you back a minimun of about £40 if you pay early or as much as £120 if you dont. Thats if you only get a ticket, get a clamp or tow away and you're looking at a few hundred quid before you and car a reunited....not to mention the time it takes.

Do take that into account if you plan to park in London. Not all roads/bays are as clearly marled as they should be and common sense doesnt even get a look in when it comes to parking restrictions.

Factor in that risk and it may well be the headache free way to get a train in... but i do agree that thos prices are outragous for a simple short train ride.
You can FLY to almost anywehwre in Europe for less than that, look (http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/?fares=more)

£133 for an hours ride is bloody expensive. I was thinking more about parking at a tube station (if it's possible) and getting the tube in so was looking for some recommendations of tube stations nr to the M3.

Failing that, park next to my car on my drive and take a bus to Hendon central then into town.

You can actualy take just one bus all the way to Oxford Street from there, hth :D

Yer thats true and it will be cheper than the tube, not like ur in a rush is it! Then tubes r free after mid night I think it is....

I work in Hammersmith and I have to say, it is HELL to park there. Pay and display parking has shot up to around £1.80 an hour and there are lots more restrictions/controlled parking zones. I get the tube there from Enfield now.

Parking near a tube station wouldnt be a bad idea because I am sure (correct me if I am wrong guys!) that on New Years eve, the london underground are offering everyone free travel upto 4am on new years day?

Check for group discount tickets - look especially for the group of 3 tickets - I have found that it can be cheaper to buy 6 tickets and not use 2 of them than buy 4 (that was an August Bank Holiday)
