New bar end as it would be fitted to bike(washer & sleeve included). As you can see, the bolt doesnt come out of the other side..

Pics arent the best as they were taken on my phone, but hopefully this is of some use..... if you want any other measurements or pics taken, gimme a shout.

Any other pointy owners are welcome to compare sizes (Oooo er:p) on their own bikes if they like?!

Thinking about it, If the standard bar end recess is 27mm and the new one is 22mm, it shouldnt really matter as the rubber washer/grommet is 20mm so fits within both of the bar ends anyway...

I think what is needed is just longer bolts, they would need to be the same size as the standard ones plus allowing for the additional length of the new bar ends, so they should be 102mm?

Are they something that could be bought from B&Q and the like as i could try getting some to see if it sorts it? failing that i guess new ones would have to be made up...

Hey Ollie,

Lots of info there, you must be bored lol.

Think its a case of just longer bolts like you have summised.

Let me know if you find some bolts at B+Q etc. Grannies birthday today, she's 80 bless, so I 'm off over there now. Bike playin second fiddle today.

Good luck,
Paul

My new bar ends actually fit better than the standard ones because the recess is slightly deeper, meaning that they totally cover the rubber bung. With my standard bar ends you can see the rubber a little, which I never liked.

Ok so the measurements........

the standard bolt sticks out 69mm from the standard bar end
the new bolt sticks out 33mm from the new bar end

meaning the new bolt is 36mm short

The new bolt's total length is 65mm so a replacement would have to be 101mm :)

Are the bolts M6? Because if they are you can get a 100mm bolt here:

Ollie,

You really took some time there, thanks. I understand now that maybe some pointy owners have just had a good match and maybe slightly smaller bars or they might have rubbed them down a little to fit. Can you tell me if you can use the bar ends and I can supply you with longer bolts? Or are they way too small (the recess) to rub down the bars or coax them in. I also understand now the difference between pointy and naked curvy's the rubber bung assembly is completely different. And the std bar ends are actually longer than mine.

Also thanks for opening this thread. It makes more sense.

Paul,

I hope your gran had a great b'day :D. I will get you some 100mm bolts.

Darren,

Also thank you for the advice on bolt sizes and links to suppliers. I will supply the 100mm bolts though unless someone tells me otherwise.

Cheers everyone have a fantastic New Year.

Fantastic Ollie I new things would work out in the end. If I do say so myself they really compliment the bike against the ali frame. Black is for seats :p

just a quick query, my left hand bar end had gone awol so I got a pair of these wee beasties, fit the right one fine, came to do the left and noticed the difference, there is no internal rubber bung on the left hand side, either the bar end was never fitted or the whole kit and caboodle is on the side of the road somewhere, or some pikey nicked it, either way, anyone know where I can get the internal bit?

Thanks

DarrenSV650S

Do those internal bits just pull out then?
I couldn't get mine out

Brettus

true, didn't try with the right hand one, i'm guessing they are just rubber that compresses as the bolts are tightened, holding them in, I assume so anyhow but as I demonstrate frequently, I know nothing :)

Well I wished I could tell you for sure where to get these but I don't. I'm still not exactly sure how they fit in. That's why I had such trouble before with the correct bolt length etc..

Can anyone advise please?

Ollie_07

I cant actually remember off the top of my head but i think there is only one on the right hand bar..... its there to stop you tightening it enough to stop the throttle from being stuck, so you dont need one on the left side really...

and yes the one on the right does just pull out.

If i get 5 ill check my left side again just to make sure i aint talking ********!! :D

think i've found my answer: http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=96127
meh, i'll see if i can pick up a cheapy on ebay somewhere as these look much better than anything commercial i've seen.
Thanks for your help guys

Thanks for thanks for the compliment on the bar ends

I would check with the breakers on the bay. You may find some that are written of and you may just get the rubber bits for postage costs. They'll be listing to sell the expensive stuff like engines etc...
