new boots

Well my last lot were no longer waterproof and I bought some new ones about 2 months ago. Well in the garage today I was cleaning up the accumulated crap and found a little gixxer buried. Imagine my surprise when it started on first push of the button. Oh good time to try the new boots.

So they are Swift Torsion-X a waterproof race boot. The fit is nice but boy are they stiff. Going down the drive, I struggled to find the foot peg. Then disaster, I could not find the gear lever whenever I change up.

I now find myself thinking I am going to have to change gear and consciously position my foot under the lever.

I am now wearing my boots round the house in the hope that they loosen up a bit.

Will they loosen over time. How long does this take. Or should I simply reposition the lever?

Just be patiant I had a pair of those they will break in eventually!! Also I tested them to the max in a ride home 120 miles in the ****ing rain and they didn't leak :cool:

use leather conditioner on them and they will soften quicker

I bought som Daytona boots which I was amazed at comfort-wise, but they didn't suit the gear lever position - I kept attempting wheelies. So I changed the gear lever position (and I am not confident with doing many practical tasks). it only took 5 mins and 4 mins of that was riding around the block and fine tuning the position.
Sure, the boots will loosen up, but save yourself the hassle and change the gear lever position - you can always change it again as and when you need to.

You think your boots are stiff. Try riding with proper motocross boots with a steel spine in the sole. These don't get any softer or flexible throughout their entire life. When I first started wearing them, I missed gear changes all the time and when using the back brake I kept locking the rear wheel. I'm fine with them now though. Just takes getting used to. Your boots will be the same.

I got some Hein Gericke XCR boots the other day- tricky finding a fit- the 41 was really tight across the side of my foot (opposit instep) and the 42 a touch slippy on the heel, but thick hiking socks are helping that. Otherwise dead comfy and nicely flexible.

Now all I gotta wait for is my Tricky II textile set to turn up and I'll look the bees knees. No more cr"ppy bulky Buffalo rubbish for me (though this'll sit in the wardrobe, just in case!)
