It's an overnight journey, so you're paying for a nights accomodation as well. That still sounds like a lot tho! How many are going and when?

If you don't mind going from Plymouth to Santander and sleeping in a seat (i.e. not booking a cabin). brittany ferries will sort you out for around 200 quid return. (just got the quote off their website 5 mins ago - but note prices may vary either way depending on what dates you pick)

Have you considered the Plymouth - Santander ferry? Not sure how much it is tho, and its a bit further for you to go...?

That's what a group of us did a couple of years ago. We shared a 4 birth cabin. Can't remember the cost now but it was the cheapest crossing we could find.

Used Port-Bilbao in June last year and it was nowhere near that kind of price for a 2 berth outside cabin (window!) return. £400 or so. 36hr crossing. Ride onto boat on the friday afternoon/dinnertime, hit the heat 9am on the sunday.

Plymouth is a 24hr crossing so is a little cheaper but you need to get onto the ferry about 8am , so for us we needed an overnight stay in "rip-off Britain" on the friday night. Arrive 9am Santander on sunday.

We always seem to use ferrysavers. www.ferrysavers.com (http://www.ferrysavers.com)

Sure you ain't booked a car!?

I did the Plymouth - Santander last year. I would advise getting a cabin just for the security of having somewhere to dump stuff. The start is a little early but I can recommend a very nice B+B pub in Plymouth, cheap and great beer.

Could recommend a few places for B+B's and cheap places in Plymouth if that's what you decide.
