I've just gotten a 2001 SV650S and I need to get it restricted. I want to use my local garage but they can't get hold of a Suzuki restrictor kit because Suzuki and Suzuki dealers are refusing to sell them to anyone who isn't an official dealer.
I've searched through the forum and seen several people mention FI International but on their website they list their kit as being for the 2003 model onwards only. I've tried to get hold of them to find out if they also do the 99-02 model but with no joy.
Does anyone know anywhere I can get the kit from? I'm avoiding official dealers because the cheapest labour cost I've found is £120 (one dealer wanted £200!), whereas my local will do it for £60 labour and I trust them to do a good job.
Thanks.

i took mine to a suzuki garage and i was charged 70 quid, you'll be surprised as to how many garages will try to rip you off, its about a 2 hour job at most and with most garages charging 40 quid an hour labour should work out around 80 ish tops.
i had one garage quote me 250 ish just on labour so i asked them if they thought i was a mug and where they can stick it a stomped out :).

Not sure about the law but there has been a lot of changes about breaking manufacturers monopolies, for instance IIRC main dealers can't void car warenties just because a car was seriviced at a non-dealer garage.

my local will do it for £60 labour
In that case, go to suzuki for £120, Fi international will want way more than £60 (the thieving shower of bastrds)
Buy some second hand or find some that do the same job.
(you'd want 13mm i/d and 42mm o/d (13mm is erring on the small side))
FI int.'s literature says how often you will be shot/buggred if you don't buy their kit, but I've yet to see a law that requires a certificate (Unless your insurance ask for one).

It's not the labour that I'm asking about, it's the restrictor kit. I just want to buy a new kit somewhere that doesn't cost the earth so I can get my local garage to fit it for me and stamp the certificate. My insurance company won't pay out on any claims until they've got a copy of the certificate and I don't want to stump up for a dyno session and print-out.

If suzuki want £120 ... and your garage wants £60 just to fit a kit...
Then any kit you buy will have to be less than £60, otherwise you might as well go to suzuki.
Secondhand washers usually about £15 ... dyno printout £20 ... see where I'm coming from?

You won't be able to, your local garage may be able to get one from FI international.

Before you dyno it then check with them that a dyno print will be OK with them.

Ah, I'm dumb and didn't understand what you were trying to say. I'll look into getting some washers to replicate what the FI kit does and then find a dyno locally if that will keep the costs down.
Thanks for the heads up.

Find a new insurance company.
In my experience, the inscos who demand this and that before you even take out the policy are the ones who will twist and turn at every opportunity to avoid paying out when you need them to.

well i payed 70 on top of the 150 for the restricter slides, which i could have fitted myself and the probably cost them 5p to make<<<< that specifically annoys me :smt092

i agree. i had my tank up and air filter out the other day and randomly just glanced at the carbs and suddenly wondered if the little goldish plates that are sort of in the top there and help down by a bracket and a couple of screws and appeared to be reducing the gap there in the carbs was the restrictor plates. is this correct? if so surely i could've done this myself and i'm an idiot at mechanics!! made me quite angry!!

probably, i haven't looked at mine
TBH i haven't really gone that into my bike that much, not had the time, but i will do
i've still got 14 months left on my restriction and i have to say they're starting to get on my nerves :smt011

Yeah, it's the same for me - all the companies who didn't care about a certificate of restriction wanted £1000-£1500 for TPFT because my postcode is E16!
Finally got down to £600 for TPFT provided I fax them the certificate. Looks like I'm going to have to stump up the £150 labour charge and go to an official dealer to get it done.
