Richie

Just thought I'd thank everybody who voted for me, my girlfriend who has supported me through all this and to my parents for buying me the camera a year ago...........yawn.

Just thought I would let everyone know (and Richie to create a new thread) that Januarys comp theme will be WILDLIFE

Last entry to be midnight 26/01/08
then a 5 day voting poll...
as per last month...
So lets get that ball rolling....

Great photo Choo - is that wild? My deer photos were nowhere near as good.

Here is the standard for January. Mildly photoshopped for contrast.

It was wild, there were two of them they were by a layby near a truck stop on the way to Fort William. I didnt get out the car as I have been attacked by a dear before!!!

Rob your photo in the opening is to set the standard, It is not to compete in this months comp as you set the theme.
as set by Jelster in this thread. them Rules is rules... (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=94370)

To try and get this under way "properly" I've started a new thread. All photos for each month will come here, I will then "split" the thread at this point every month. However, we will generate a list of winners.

Few simple rules...

One entry per person per month
The winner of the competition will suggest the subject for the following month.
The winner cannot enter the following month, but they should provide a photo in the opening post to set the standard if they want to.
"Photoshoped" images: ALL images in the scene have to be your own work, putting a decent picture onto a background that you didn't take isn't exactly fair.
If you do photoshop the picture please mention it when you post it. Not that there is anything wrong with editing them, it just will allow people to make their on decisions about voting.

Well, dodgy knee and crutches mean I can't get out into the wilds like I used to. :( So I figured I have to make do with whatever I could find in the jungle that is my back garden.

Caught this poor fella trying to get back down after seemingly climbing a large bit of rotten wood...

Here are some highland cows I saw on the isle of mull. I was riding past the field they were in and they started running along beside me! Must of been my loud can;)
Then when I stopped they all seemed to line up in a row, so I quickly got my camera out:p

Although mobility issues prevent me from going to far (and unlike K I don't have bears down the end of my garden :)) I do however have a family of these, after 4 days the little ******** stay still long enough for a reasonable shot.

Err, can't see how to post a pic - tells me my photo is bigger than the 125K limit for the forum tho some of the others seem bigger than that?
Have I missed something obvious (or maybe there could be a sticky for the forum?)

Yeah, when I initially saw it, I thought it was a childs toy - it didn't look real (this photo is untouched by photoshop etc). It was pretty big as well (woman at the nature reserve said it was bigger than she'd seen before).
I was lucky with this shot - the wooden handrail it was sitting on really sets off the photo.

Anyway, glad you like it. :)

I'd have said about 4". After I took the photo, I put my hand out and encouraged him (with a little bit of a prod) to walk onto my hand. As he was half on my hand, my wife pointed out that there was a sign just next to me saying not to touch the animals, so I took my hand away.
At the time, I didn't know what it was (other than some kind of grasshopper), but the bright colours made me wonder afterwards if it was poisonous and I was going to come out with a rash or something. Just had a look online and it seems they can secrete some toxic stuff, but the worst they can do to a human is stain clothes.
Just read that the max size they get to is 7cm, so maybe I'm exaggerating.
