Do Acerbis hand guards fit?
Am not too sure that the black V Strom ones will suit my silver pointy
The Acerbis ones need modifying, I tried some against my pointy and they'd have looked awful. The best option is the V-Strom set, they fit straight on and look like they're made for the job, and they work really well.
On my Bandit I had some generic no-name ones I got from Bike-It for 15 quid. They looked ok, but didn't offer much in the way of weather protection, they were there to stop my brake lever from locking the front wheel when I clouted cars in London - they did a good job of it too.

I ordered a set for £25 from the Suzuki dealer in Rochdale. Should arrive Thursday.
The bloke I spoke to said there might be a problem fitting them because the length of the bolt on the SV standard bar ends is shorter than the bolt used on the V-Strom bar ends.
Has anyone any experience of fitting them? Any problems?
Thanks, Alan.

In the kit I got with mine there were longer bolts included. I would assume that would be the same for you?
I've not fitted mine yet this winter. It's not been cold enough!

IS THAT THE BEST YOU CAN DO????!??!!!?!?!?!?

Stu will be along soon to show his V-Strom ones off!
I fitted some to a naked pointy a few weeks ago, they went straight on with no problems. Everything is included in the kit, new bolts as well.

Ooo I feel all left out..... I'll have to buy my this weekend :-)
If you got curvey the choke lever just about sticks. So you gotta shave a nazzum off the LH guard so that the Choke lever isn't impeded. Easy with a Stanley knife or similar.

As for fouling the choke, on a naked just shift the clutch perch right a bit and it's fine. Also make sure you order the DL650 set not the DL1000 kit as the DL1000 kit does not come with all the fixings you need.

Thanks,
I thought I was gonna get the SV fashion police banging on about my givi topbox rack ;)
It's a Givi screen not, sure which model though. I bought it off some guy in the WRC. It really cuts down the windblast at speed.

I`ve just got round to fitting my handguards. Did anyone find that the new longer screws in the kit were too long, for securing the bar ends?
Cheers
I have some on my curvy, didn't have to shave anything off, but then its a S not a N. I did find the bolts a bit long so had to cut them down a tad and re-thread them.

not sure if I should even be reviving this after so long, but... here goes...
I put the DL guards on my '08 SV650 naked, and had exactly that bolt problem. the bolt that comes in the kit is 140mm (there is an outer expander, a long spacer, and an inner expander to pass thru to reach the nut inside the DL bar end); it needs to be 80mm (original is 60mm plus extra 20mm spacer). there happens to be a Suzuki part number for precisely what you need: 09127-06014. expensive here in the colonies; not sure about the homeland...
i didn't realize you could rethread the long bolts - they have turned threads, which stand proud of the shank slightly, but i guess you can cut enough thread into the shank to work.
cheers,

Bolts are cheap, probably <15p for what you need.

thanks yorkie, but i'm not mechanically adept enough to know where to seek out the correct bolt, let alone correctly describe it to the 'bolt-man', once i found him. it has a countersunk, oval head with Phillips drive; the shank is only half threaded (not that this likely matters); and the threads are rolled (i.e., slightly 'proud' on the shank) rather than cut. [i noticed others have mentioned cutting extra threading onto the 140mm bolt and chopping the length down (which certainly was my first thought, before i noticed the threading was rolled, not cut), but that surely doesn't give very strong threads or a good fit to the nut. don't you risk stripping the threads and/or having the assembly come loose?]
so i just went with the Suzuki part that the dealership parts-man was able to dig out of an old envelope. time vs money, i suppose. turns out it's from an '88-'91 GSXR-750 bar end. the Ron Ayers microfiche prices it at US$3.44; i paid CDN$10.00 for a pair (roughly correct exchange)! the stock 60mm screw is priced at US$1.50; the 140mm DL650 screw is priced at US$1.69. don't ask me why the 80mm is so much more - perhaps just the rarity that comes with age, like a fine wine?
cheers,

Aye, the DL650 and the DL1000 are the bikes description where as VStrom (Strom not Storm) is the model name like Fireblade and Hayabusa.

As the bike is manufactured in Japan by a Japanese company I am not too sure the German translation of Strom is the correct way to decipher the true name of the DL's. ;)

You sure about that then? :D Translation of Suzuki JP Motorcycle Name origins (http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.suzuki.co.jp%2Fabout%2Ffaq%2Fdo m2_name.html&sl=ja&tl=en&history_state0=)

Listen, Suzuki's copywriter is better payed than me, so take it away:
... Underneath the trapping of responsible citizenship, some people dream of more.
A place where the horizon is defined by tall trees instead of tall buildings. Where grass doesn't just grow in a park, Where animals don't only live in a zoo. Where the wind blows clear ands strong and doesn't carry the smell of a traffic jam.
A place like Africa. From meandering tracks through broad plateaus bordered by the Drakensburg Mountains of the coastal (sic) near Durban, South Africa. To hard-packed switchback roads carved into the side of a gorge in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. From vast savanna grasslands to towering peaks. Now there is a motorcycle inspired by that dream, and built for adventure. Named for its V-twin engine and the stream of wind, or "Strom" in German. It is called the Suzuki V-Strom 1000. Ready to live the adventure in your mind.

Has anyone fitted these to a 650s pointy?? Do they fit or are they only suitable for nakeds? Cheers
Stu used to have some on his Pointy S and as far as I remember, they were OK....

I fitted them to my K8 sport (faired), no issues except that struggle to get full lock to the right....it's only a couple of mm and if you push hard enough you get full lock. Only an issue when you're parking it up etc.

Lazyman take it you had no fouling issues?

The guards may touch the dash when on full lock, they can actually prevent the bars from reaching the stops by a mm or two (if you push hard enough they'll get there but there's no reason to, it doesn't really effect the turning circle).
Just keep the bits you unscrew so you have the option of removing them when the weather improves.
cheers, lazymanc-unian
