black ice sucks, I have no idea why the council don't grit roads that they know are prone to it. When I lived in a previous house, the nearby street always used to ice up, but being a main road in town there were soooo many accidents as people just didn't expect it...
anyway hope your knee is feeling better soon!

Hope your ok.
Very icey down south this morning, with some stretches solid black ice.
Be careful out there!

Possibly yes you could. Id in the first instance give this company a call - www.sorrymate.com (http://www.sorrymate.com) they have been recommended by many of our customers. If you do get somewhere with them mention Sarah at Steve Jordan Motorcycles gave you their details as I saw their rep the other day and he said he may help with some racing costs if i recommend them. Plus they donate profits to the air ambulance charities.
They should at least tell you if you have a claim. IMHO the council should keep the roads safe for all users.
Get some advice, take a copy of last nights weather forecast if you can find one still - ie local paper etc. If it states it was going to be freezing then the council should have taken steps to grit the roads.
Glad you'll fix easily, and the bike ain't that badly damaged.
I just looked out of the window, it looks grim. I think I might use that red thing down there today...I think they call it a car, but it's been so long since I've had one, I could be wrong.
(God bless my ex-girlfriend, she emigrated to Oz and gave me it before she went on Thursday, she even put a full MOT on as well.)
on the plus side: At least you got your knee down!!!

Sorry to hear it mate, glad to hear you are releatively unscathed though GWS

glad your not too badly hurt & remember 'where theres blame theres a claim'
the council/highways agency/police knew about the black ice because there had been previous accidents.
get in touch with a solicitor - at least you could get the price of the bike repairs back

Get a claim in if you're going to have to take time off, nothing wrong with claiming for genuine mishaps, especially from the council, think of it as a tax refund.
Also get to the doctors about the knee, if anythings damaged then better you know.

You can't blame to council for the weather, that's both ridiculous and selfish.

They waste money on every daft project they can find, they might as well waste a bit in your direction.

Hardly an excuse. Remember who's pockets the money comes out of.

So you'd turn down the opportunity? Despite being left out of pocket by someones neligence?
You can't blame to council for the weather, that's both ridiculous and selfish.
They have a responsibility to maintain the roads to a safe standard using all possible means, within reason. I expect it's a massive grey area, and you'd probably need them to have negligently decided not to grit that accident prone spot in spite of frost warnings. If the gritters were out all day before and doing everything possible, or if the frost was unusual or unexpected, or if you're well off the main roads, then I think you'd struggle.
Glad you're ok Lyle.
You can't blame to council for the weather, that's both ridiculous and selfish.
But you sure as hell CAN blame them for neglecting to take precautions against potential accidents caused by it, for which they have a solution.
Like my road - I can't use my bike if it's even slightly icy as the council just don't bother to grit it. They do every other road on the estate but won't do ours as it's just a loop - and there's a slight incline at both ends which means that when it's really bad, no-one can get out unless they have decent traction control.

Sorry to hear you dropped it mate! Get the knee checked out ASAP, they need looking after.
With regards the council, as far as I know, they were relieved of the obligation to grit roads years ago. I don't think you have a claim against them.

You can't blame to council for the weather, that's both ridiculous and selfish.
its neither "ridiculous" or "selfish" to expect that the authorities responcible for the upkeep of public highways, to do thier job to the best of thier ability.
"if" it is the local councils responcibility (or some other agency) to keep the roads clear to the best of thier abilities, then they have failed in thier duty.
there is a clear & genuine claim here for damages caused, both physical & mechanical, if the cold weather was reported in enough time for the relevent authorities to act & no action taken to grit the roads.
as suggested earlier, get in touch with www.sorrymate.com (http://www.sorrymate.com)
top right of the home page is a link to a page where you can ask them directly whether you have a viable claim for your damages.
you have nothing to loose by obtaining some expert opinion.
