I have recently been having troubles with charging my laptop and the screen flashes on and off. I had this problem before and a new power adaptor sorted it out.

Anyway, someone on here recommended that I change the connector that goes into the laptop too save money so this is what I did. I took the laptop and power adaptor to maplins and came out with the correct adaptor (so the man on the components desk said anyway) and fitted it to the power cord.

This hasn't solved the problem though. I know the connector was FUBAR'd but I also think the connector on the laptop is knackered so I mwas wondering how easy they are to fix/change as there is notthing else wrong with the laptop.

Nope. The wire was definatelt screwed, my volt meter proved this but it's been playing up for so long that I think all the wiggling has damaged the power connection on the laptop, as when I took my laptop to bits the other night to investigate, the centre pin seems to have a lot of play in it!

So anyone know haw hard/costrly it'll be?

what kind of laptop is it?

I had an estimate of £300 just to dismantle my Tosh; I was told it was really really complex and took hours. I didn't bother - and I'm glad - the screws fell out over time and it eventually dismantled itself.

(not really - honest guvnor). Laptops are one thing I don't like working on, but 300 squid is daylight robbery - I'll do it for £200 :smt045

pcworld quoted my ?300 to fix the power connector on my laptop, got a much better quote from an idependant pcshop ?150 fix was done within a week and havent had a problem since,

that being said if your gonna be splashing ?300ish for a repair you may as well get a new laptop as they are that cheep ;)

Gonna try to fix it myself, if this doesn't work then I'll buy a damaged one off ebay and make a comlpete working one (with some spare parts for future breakdowns).

It's a compaq presario 2100 so there's pleanty of knackered ones about as they're ancient!

It's only for surfing the web and playing music so I don't need to splash out just yet.

Well I repaired the wire so it's now got nearly 19v running constantly through it but still nothing in the laptop. Waiting for a new DC plug so I can solder that into the motherboard and if that doesn't work then I'll have to get a new battery.

Laptops are more hassle than they're worth!
