Right there are some by me, i was down bottom of road and saw on green so i sped up just a little bit to bout 40, the lights changed quickly from green to red and i went through on red about 1 second after it changed, will i get prosecuted for that?

I hope not cause if there is points involved thats my license gone :(

Was there a camera on them? If so was it forward facing? As if it is you'll be fine.

Whats the speed limit on the road?

In theory you should be going slow enough so that you can stop safely, should the lights go red.

Its only 3 points anyway...you should have 6 to play with....or have you been a naughty boy? :)

At the end of the day i wouldn't worry about it, unless you receive a letter in the post.

You'll only get an NIP if a camera caught your plate.

I've never seen a red light Gatso at temp. ATS.

If a cop was there, you would have been stopped there and then.

I always think about how long ATS have been on green. If I haven't seen it phase from red to green, I always expect it to change soon and slow. If I have seen it phase from red and I am reasonably close, I don't expect it to change again and continue as normal. Just being defensive.

IIRC ljharmitt is a fairly new rider, but lets not forget the 2 year rule applies to your first licence.

So if you've been driving a car for more than 2 years, then you have 12 points to play with, if not, it could be 6 only.

I don't think there will of been any camera's attached to those temp lights though.

in which case if he's alredy got 3 then he needs to be very careful. i've never seen a red light camera on some temporary lights.

Dont worry too much, if temp lights or roadworks are in place that changes the conditions and speed limits of the road must be accompanied by a temp provision order for the changes, placed at both end of the lights/roadworsk - Ask for a copy if you receive an NIP along with any photo/laser evidence. You will not be surprised to know that most roadworks and temp. lights do not advertise their temp provision order, which make it illegal (so says the solicitor to the stars)

Is it the same 14 day rule as for the speeding NIP's?

Unless you're conesting, in which case you're given 28 days to prepare a defence for any legal case.

I mean do they have to get the NIP out to you within 14 days of the offence?

Be carefull with that small amount you have to "play" with on your lisence lj, it would feel very sore to have your lisence taken away so soon after gaining it!

Anyway, I wouldnt worry about it, I've gone through a couple that have just changed to red, mosty because I didnt wanna jam my brakes on when the surface was pretty slippery

That in itself is the start of a defence. The wording of the law states that you must be able to stop safely. This implies that you have to be travelling slow enough, but what if some hazard presented itself at the last second? For example, a puddle of water.

Do you slam on the brakes to stop in time, but risk aquaplaning on the water (assuming tyre tread is quite low - but still legal as well).

Mind, I doubt in this case you'll be needing a defence anyway.

Would they prosecute if you slid over the line on your ar$e?

In a 30, I tend to agree, but on some NSLs and 60 dual carriageways, the time on amber is too little to be able to stop safely. It's better to wind it on a bit and get through than go skating down the road on your backside, IMO. The alternative is to slow to 30-40 for each set of lights (even when green) so you can stop "in case" it goes amber. Of course, this brings its own set of problems/dangers; aside from slowing down the rate of traffic, it encourages other road users to overtake you, which on a bike is seldom particularly safe.
