Im hankering to get to a MotoGP round, but nervous about booking Donnington as it seems to want to rain every year (im camping).

So im looking at Assen, they "usually" seem to get the sun

Has anyone been over there for the MotoGP, or WSB? Can you let me know what kind of costs you spent out? Is it cheaper to take the ferry accross from Dover - Calais and ride up, or cheaper/faster to catch a direct ferry to the Netherlands?

Just looking to get an idea of costs, to see if the trips viable for me.

Unsure whether to go by car or bike too (2 people).

Going to assen...its going to rain. And not a light drizzle, a full on proper shower. My dad has been going for a couple of years, and cannot stress the importance of packing waterproofs!

I'm not sure what the prices are like, but the campsite seems mad...stay away from the germans! He recomends the whole experiance, and says its brilliant to watch the motogp there, although prefered the old track to the new one

Yeah I've been to both several times, although not in the last five or six years so cost wise I'm probably a little out of date.

Couple of things, it's really no problem to take the ferry over to Calais and ride up (about 385 miles) all major roads (duel carriage way stuff), and plenty of service stations on the way.

once you get there they have loads of signs for camping at various places on the way to the track, but IMHO you should got right to the track itself and there is a field either side by the main entrance turnstiles, to the right is more the family field, RV's big tents and alike, but to the left is the bike "nutters" field, don't expect to much sleep as they have a habit of reving bikes up,really loud music and lots of beer :smt045.

the last time we went, both me and my brother spent a good deal of the time with a dutch group eating their food and drinking their beer all for nothing and they spoke only a few words of english between them, Oh and being woken in the morning by the sound of race bikes shooting round a track is brilliant :-D.

they have those giant screens up around the circuit and you get the local commentary, but they follow that with english as well so that's a plus, basically all good fun.

Cheers Mark.

I went last year for the first time. I thought it was awesome!!!! Definately going again, SO-SO FRIENDLY!!!!

We travelled over from Harwich (suffolk/essex border), took 6 hours.

Weather was definately a lottery, one minute it was fine-then the next dark clouds and rain. One thing is for certain, its always windy!!!!
