Right im on my way to fill up with petrol and my bike blows the ignition fuse take the seat off and put a spare in and see what happens runs fine for about 30 seconds and blows it again!! Whats up with it? Iv had to leave it up at the shop and i just hope that its alright when i get it tomorrow the recovery wanted 55 quid and i only live about half a mile from where it is, but didnt fancy pushing it home as where i live is full of hills! Please if anyone has any ideas what it is, it would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

check the loom for chaffing

Might not be the cause of yours but mine was caused by the wiring loom rubbing on the frame and exposing bear wires which was causing a short and then blowing the main fuse.

Its quite a common thing with SV's either round the headstock, where the loom disappears under the tank or around the rear subframe are I thinik the most common places.

Is that what it could be, nothing major because atm i cant really afford a major garage bill! Where abouts is the loom not really up to date with wiring etc on bikes lol!

You could try a search on "Loom" or "Chafing" and you'll find loads of stuff, it's been a well known issue with curveys since they were introduced.

The most common points are where the rider seat bolts are slightly too long and hit the wiring loom immediately behind them, both sides.
Take the triangle panels off the sides to get to them.

The other favourite is if you take the pillion seat off and look on the left side (as you sit on the bike) towards the back there is a wiring harness which wraps round a frame bracket, which can chafe through.

Last generally around the steering/headstock where the harnesses flex as you turn the bars and can rub on things.

Repair is basically wrapping any bare wires in insulation (pvc tape is easiest) and make sure the wiring harness is kept away from sharp corners or bolts etc.

Thats all good advice, especially the riders seat bolt area.It seems you have a short that happens intermittantly such as when you sit on said seat or move the bike in a certain way?
Also worth checking the battery live lead in case that is able to touch an earth somewhere.

I've got it sorted i rang up my insurance because i didnt fancy leaving it over night! A recovery vehicle came n fixed it on the spot. What had happened was one of my alarm cables that would immobolise the ignition and starter switch had been chaffing on a near buy screw under the seat and obviously when i put a new fuse in the second time the weight of the seat put pressure back on it causing the wire to touch the frame and blow, the mechanic got some insulating tape and put it round n zip tied the wire away from where it was chaffing and getting caught.... Problem solved!

Felt sorry for the mechanic though hed come all the way from Portsmouth to Poole in rush hour!
