Good luck, if I hear of anything, I'll let ya know.

What year ya after?

Whatever year they did silver usd forks if they even did. I haven't had time to really start looking in to it.

I want it to look factory so be better without radial brakes and hopefully cheaper!

So basically a pair of silver usd forks and a silver wheel to match, any info on years of bike i could get these off would be great.

Really brings the SV up to date imo.

Think you'll be after K1-3 forks then (don't quote me though!) and look here for all the info you'll need (probably): http://gregmli.blogspot.com/search/label/DIY

I've got the K1 forks but they're RWU. Ithink USD was later.

?300 for a complete front end ain't a bad price if it's all straight. The wheel will need spraying silver but that shouldn't be hard or expensive!

What parts are required to fit the RWU 600 forks to a pointy SV? That would look nice and standard to the insurance man....

K1-K3 600. Or possibly K1-3 yokes and SRAD forks.

K1-K3 complete front is easiest!

However... any insurance man would pick up on these in seconds, the discs are far bigger, 4 pot calipers, adjusters that the SV doesn't have...

If you want it to look standard then you want to be looking at cartridge conversions.

You'd be suprised what insurance people miss, they managed to miss a complete body kit on my old car (bearing in mind there wasn't 1 standard panel or even any locks or handles!)

Yes, but if they want to get out of paying then they can be completely anal about it.

Y-K3 750 forks look right with the silver, but you don't get radial calipers... I replaced mine with K4-k5 which are horrible gold, they're good forks and great brakes but the silver was so much more fitting.

I wonder how much it would cost to re-anodise a set of fork uppers? I did have the thought that maybe I could use my K2 fork uppers with the K4 lowers, but no.

I'm set on K1-K3 RWU forks and brakes, do these fit straight on? Is it different head bearings i need?

svdemon

Has anyone made gsxr forks fit sv yokes? I can't imagine they'd be much larger, not sure how brakes etc would work though.

yorkie_chris

Not going to happen with standard yokes.

I'm not expert on conversions but AFAIK the bearings are the same for pointies, you can drop the gixxer stem straight in.

Correct, it's a very simple and straightforward swap just as long as you source the correct parts. It's best to source all your parts from the same model to avoid compatibility issues.

Whats the size difference in the yokes? Surely you could bore the sv ones out to take the Gsxr ones?

phil24_7

What's the point when you can pick up a second hand one for £50 then sell yours to recoup ,ost of the outlay.

You've got no chance in boring them out the SV yoke is tiny compared to the GSXR one. I'll measure in a mo but it wouldn't work.

SV yoke 42mm

GSXR yoke 52mm

So you'd need to bore out 10mm with on 5mm available on the SV yoke.

svdemon

Ah! I didn't think it would be that much difference! Would be nice and easy if it was, oh well on with the search.....

Can anyone confirm if the pointy head bearings work with K3 gsxr forks?

That's for the USD ones, the RWU are less dramatic. But still not feasible. Now, RWU R6 forks on the other hand can be done this way, there's a thread on SV Rider about it.

Trust you northy to enter with a completely different idea all together!

Is it the route your taking next Northy?

northwind
20-04-08, 12:34 PM
Nah, though I like the RWU forks... They suit the SV. The K4-K5 USDs I have fitted are really good, but I hate the gold, I've got some plans along those lines.

phil24_7
20-04-08, 12:52 PM
Surely the should be easy to either polish up or paint iof your that fussed?

northwind
20-04-08, 01:55 PM
Paint doesn't work well because they have to slide through the yokes, and polish is a nonstarter on my bike because of the winter riding, it'd just fur up. So I considered stripping them and getting them reanodised in silver, but came up with something better...

Am i right in thinking i can just swap out my forks for GSXR 600 RWU K3 and use my SV wheel? That guide reckons they are compatible?

yorkie_chris
20-04-08, 09:26 PM
That guide reckons they are compatible?

No it doesn't. It says compatible with other gsxrs which is the point of that table, not compatible with the SV.

svdemon
21-04-08, 12:56 AM
Ah right the one i looked at just said compatible, thats a shame. Powder coating it is then.

yorkie_chris
21-04-08, 08:41 AM
Yeah it means these years of gsxr are compatible with each other. That guide really helps when looking for stuff because you can look which parts you can have from which years.
