View Full Version : fuel injection what year
If I would be looking at a used bike (as it comes with extras quite often), from what year onwards have the SV650(naked) had fuel injection instead of carbs? Does anyone know?

2003 or K3 Onwards, also known as a "pointy"

But go for a K4 onwards - the K3 is a "unique" model in that it has the pointy shape of the K3 onwards, but few of the bits from a K4 onwards will fit on a K3 as there was major redesign work done between K3 and K4
Oh and so you know - if you replace the K with 200 - you get the bikes year.
So my K6 = 2006
Model Years:
X = 1999 (carbs, curvy shape)
Y = 2000 (carbs, curvy shape)
K1 = 2001 (carbs, curvy shape)
K2 = 2002 (carbs, curvy shape, fork preload caps added, no major differences)
K3 = 2003 (Redesign, new shape, Fuel injection *Tallest seat height of any SV*)
K4 = 2004 (Changes to lower seat height including moving fuse & tool box)
K5 = 2005 (Same as above, Black Frame IIRC)
K6 = 2006 (Same as above)
K7 = 2007 (some changes to FI systems & ancilleries)
K8 = 2008 (same as 2007 I believe)
I'd suggest sitting on a 99-02 curvy bike, and a 2004 -> pointy model and seeing which you prefer, the curvys seem to be a little narrower in the seat which can help those with shorter legs (I seem to remember you commenting on this in another thread). Pick the one you like the look of best, in good condition. There's really not been enough changes over the years to make one a "must buy" model....

Thanks. I get the impression that if you speak about an SV everyone assumes it's the SV650S.

Btw in changing the seat height between the K3 & K4 they actually changed the angle of the tail, to me it makes it look a little strange on the K4+ (probably because I had a K3 though) as it doesn't point upwards so much. I'd love a K5+ with a K3 subframe for the higher tail :D

Next year's model will be a bit of a dog, I've heard.

The SV650S is more common than the SV650 naked. The distinction is usually made because with the S fairing it's more obvious to everyone which model you're talking about.:cool:
