March East Anglia Revolution Rideout
Finalised the details for the EAR rideout in March. We're meeting up at Eye services on the A47. It's the Esso/McDonalds services. Meeting at 9am for a 10am start, on saturday the 1st March 2008. We will stop at Colsterworth on the A1 junction for fuel/food/leak breaks. Then head round to Haddon services, where we will all hopefully meet up in one piece. All are welcome. See you there.
The route is here:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&om=1&msa=0&msid=104955232921369824490.000443eaa75e46fe59ab7&ll=52.636397,-0.527344&spn=0.406705,1.277161&z=10
You can link straight from it Mike - there is a "link to this page" icon on the right hand side of the map - I dont think we can search for it if you created it.

Sod it, easier to photobucket it! Cheers Skip
Ooooh, I could pootle up to Melton if you're going to pause for a cuppa n bacon sarnie there.
(BTW, stickied the thread for ya.)
If you're going to Uppingham, I'd suggest staying off the A6003 to Corby, and instead take the B664 to Market Harborough. If you've never ridden the B664.................you really have to!:D
Easy enough then to pop back across to Corby.

Just did that, searched for webbs of eye and up came the one you did!
Looks pretty good to me
Edit: I'll change my one to what lissa said ;)
Oops, just buggered it up, my link is useless at the moment :P

Hehe, I am pretty good, just a bit stoopid sometimes, I tried to delete a point on the line and deleted the entire line instead
Linky works again, showing Lissa's idea
I bet get out on my bike - thats one mother of a rideout including my trip to and from the start!

Consider me somewhat interested.
A bit.
Maybe.
But I'm a definite if K goes, I still need to find out if she truly exists, or if she's a collective figment of our forum imaginations.

Which day do people prefer?
I can do either ;)
It'd be nice to meet you K if you do go up to Melton, I hear you're a bit handy on two wheels!

Sorry Skip, totally screwed up the map on google, but hope you all get the idea. Lissa, unless someones already done it, will change to follow your suggested route around Corby.
Just seen it altered, thanks Sean
Sounds like fun - so are we starting at this place in Ely then?
Mike2165
18-01-08, 10:11 AM
Ely?...It's starting in Eye, near Peterborough
Here is the link to Webbs, Eye.

Just a thought, though.............will the burger van be open on a Sunday? An alternative meet could be the Maccy D's just round the corner. I think you can get hot and cold drinks in Webbs, and they have a loo, depends if people will need food to sustain them!

I will contact Webbs to find out whether the van is there on sundays. Unless the Maccy D option is prefered

18-01-08, 11:27 AM
Lissa and I aren't worried. It's not too far for us (1hr or so), so we can go to Maccy D's first then meet at Webbs, it's more for the peeps who may have had a longer journey. Webbs was suggested cos it's easy to find and at least the early arrivals can peruse the stock.:)
Incidentally, have you thought of a start time? :riding:
Mike2165
18-01-08, 12:09 PM
What time do they normally start, 11am ok?
Webbs is about an hour and a half from me - if the rideout route is fairly long then I would suggest saying meet at 9:00 to leave at 10:00 as trying to get everyone to meet and then leave at the same time is a logistical nightmare!
Actually that weekend could well be my stag do (getting married on 29th) so I might not be able to make it after all :( Will keep you posted as I would really like to come!!

Slight alteration, meeting at 9am for 10am kick off, from Maccy D's (cause they'll be open!)
Thanks everyone for your help, but particularly to Lissa for your much appreciated advice.
More details to follow

Looks like a decent route Mike. Off at 10am from
Mac(doesyouwantfrieswithyournondescriptentrails)Do nalds:smt078...sorry I'd sooner chew on a pair of a tramps old pants......but enough of the rant. I should be there though:flower:my boss has let me out for the day, it going to be down to Micheal Fish:nemo:. Looking forward to it...cheers.
PS. anyone want to join me on my leg from Norfolk to Peterborough?
Mike2165
23-01-08, 08:43 AM
Here is the route for the March rideout, with the alterations. We start at Eye services on the A47 (not the BP services on the A1198 roundabout). We follow the route to Colsterworth services at the A1 junction (about half way). We then follow the route to the Haddon services on the A1 junction near Peterborough.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&om=1&msa=0&msid=104955232921369824490.000443eaa75e46fe59ab7&ll=52.636397,-0.527344&spn=0.406705,1.277161&z=10
I've tweaked the lines so that if you zoom in it follows the roads we go on (down to satellite level) to make it easy to follow.
We meet at 9am for a 10am start, ( Maccy D's never had it so good!). It would be nice to know peoples preferance to saturday or sunday, but a lot of the final decision will be made nearer the time and depends a bit on weather.
Thanks to everyone who gave advice and help, Sean C, Lissa who have help loads.
More details to follow as and when
Looks good Mike - I just hope I can come!

Saturday please! But either way you're the one going to the effort of putting this together, so pick which day suites you best...:smt045
Mike2165
23-01-08, 09:52 AM
I'm ok for both days, but if there is a preferance and a majority and the weathers better one day than another, then we'll go with that. I ain't into 'I organised it so thats it' I've looked at other areas clubs, and they seem to do a lot more getting together than over here for some reason. I just think it will be nice to do something here, with people from the SV forum (and others) with a common interest...biking. For me, it will be nice to meet some of the people I've had conversations with on here. I know whatever day we go won't please everyone, but that's unavoidable unfortunately. But I'm looking forward to my first rideout with the Org.

Sorry..wasn't trying to pass the buck or anything, it's fantastic that you're going to the trouble of doing this.
I was a newbie to the forum last March and had not ridden since passing my test 12 years prior. I put together a rideout in May, I too was trying to be thoughtful asking for opinions and proposals etc....but everyone had there own input.
Then things got confusing. Some people could make one day and not the next whilst others could make the other day and not the first. Then YOU still have to chose...TBH I felt guilty leaving some people out cause they couldn't make the day chosen and some people were disapointed not being able to make it.
So since then, when I put together a rideout I always pick a day early on. It gives people time to get organised and make time for the rideout. The guys on this site are a great bunch especially Pete and Lissa! They'll travel for miles for a rideout and they're good company (Pete's always happy to share his memories of the 1st world war).
Cheers.

So can we call him Uncle Albert from now on?
Call him anything you like..................with his memory he'll never remember anyway:D
Is this going to be a fast paced rideout or steady?
Considering inviting my dad along too, if we're still talking after another 6 weeks of me taking the **** out of his viffer that sounds like a sewing machine :D He might not be confident enough and say no anyway.
(Pete's always happy to share his memories of the 1st world war).
Although in Pete's case it should really be the Boer War;)

Mike2165
24-01-08, 11:25 AM
So on the rideout, will we be following the celebs? Bit like they did in the Life of Brian?
1st it is. I'll be there, so will my boss. Dad is considering it. At McD's, right?
I went on my bike today (one side faired, with mirror, the other side without both ) Wow.. feels so good to ride it again  I thought I'd tear up and down the street on it. We got Dad's finished and on the road, so he had his first go on it after me (had to see it was ok, didn't i..) and I felt bad neglecting my SV :p
Oi you lot!!
Stop taking the p*ss...................we're famous you know!:D
Although I'm sorry to say we'll be letting the side down by NOT drinking to excess, doing recreational drugs or disappearing off to some poxy island with a bunch of has-beens.;)

Organising anything to do with bikes has long been likened to herding cats.
Are you going to come, Lozzo? It'd be nice to meet you.
Talking of cats, I booted one up the arris . It normally runs away before I'm close to it. This particular cat got under the covers and walked all over our wet concrete base for our bike shed :smt066

Yeah - but what's going to keep the bike dry?!
Not that I have to worry - my two are poles apart - the BlueBlade is snugly tucked up in the garage ne'er to see a drop of the wet stuff, whereas the Varadero is...
