View Full Version : Someone walked out infront of me...
In the wet on Cannon street as I was filtering past some stationary traffic, just appeared from between 2 taxis. Now as it was wet and I was startled I braked a bit hard and it when down.
The damage was a bent rear brake leaver, another scrapin of my crash bung, and some more scratched on my hand guard/bar-end.
Now I thought nothing of it and and after they helped me and the bike up, I checked it over and told them not to worry...
So would you have been so... mellow?
Or maybe you'd have got some details off them???
I'd have ripped their arm off and beaten them to death with the soggy end. I'm not mellow:D
Glad you seem to be OK though:thumbsup:

hmmm, i didn't have one quite so bad but literally 5 mins after I'd bought my sv, a woman ran into the back of me on a roundabout. she was well upset. checked the bike, took her details and told her not to worry as no one had died and there didn't seem to be any damage. she rang me later to say thank you for being so calm.
me and grinch smashing down the stereotypes of the angry biker.

I agree with Lissa i don't think i could have held my temper back.
A few choice words at least i think:smt076
I'd like to think I would have released the brake lever (as I did on parliament sq this week after locking up).
But then I might have hit them harder, but it wouldn't be me that was upset.
Glad the hand guard saved your lever!

I had a kid about 8 - 10 yrs run out in front of me, scared me half to death, the kid ran ou tof an alley way and into my path, he was about 1 and a half meters in front of me and when he saw what he did he froze on spot. He was to close for emergancy stop, so i just flung myself and bike over on its side whist pulling on brakes. Its amazing how quick you can bin a bike when you mean to. I was doing 30 and missed the kid by inches.
When i climbed up from under bike i just wanted to rip off the kids arms and beat it to death the wet ends.
Thankfully I didnt as he was balling his eyes out, tears and all screaming "oh im sorry, Im sorry my mum will kill me"
I checked on kid and calmed him down. He was on his own cos his mum had sent him to shop to get milk for breakfast before school.
I told him to go home (later thinking i should of walked him there and had a go a parents)
I picked bike up and luckily it was all cosmetic barring the headlight unit, bent back brake, all three front fairings and headlight unit smashed. That it really.

ARRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH is what I'd have been thinking, and would have wanted to batter them. Buut, me being me, would have been calm and nice to said person. ridden off ranting loudly in helmet most probably. Suppose it depends on how much you love you pride and joy.
Glad the hand guard saved your lever!
I must say it did a rather good job... Cheers again for them... :D

Yeah doesn't accomplish anything productive losing your temper, but so easy to do, good job keeping it calm.
I had 4 idiots pull out in front of me in one day on Monday, not a happy bunny but fortunately enough time to take appropriate action. Cursing misted my visor up good and proper though :)

Good to hear your alright pla, thats the main thing....
What would I do, last time someone had me off, I was so ****ed off I was a bit vocal but I just got me and my bike off the floor and walked away. That did say however say they wish they had run me over.
I had someone pull out in front of me yesterday, made them pull down there window to point out the fact they came very close to having me off....they said they saw me, they were like "Yeah i saw you I slowed down when I pulled out"

I would have shoved my hand straight up their ****. Got hold of thier neck from the inside and ripped their head back out of their ****. Now they are capable of seeing. I would then proceed to kick the living daylight out of them.
Incidentally, I was listening to radio 2 ,Vine the whine this afternoon. The amount of people trying to defend a cyclist who ran a red light and was handbagged by a peer of the realm got on my man boobs. Anyone who has no idea how to use the roads, obey basic traffic signals, etc. Needs to be locked away for their own safety.

Get used to it Grinch, happens to me EVERY day (well apart from the dropping).
It seems that to work in that part of London as DNA test to confirm that you are part Lemming before you get a job.
Today it was mostly scooters that were ****ing me off, then there was this idiot that nudged my foot with his front wheel while sitting at lights, then he did it again, so I just looked down at my foot to hope that he got the hint, when, he does it again.
So I look round, murder in my eye to find a smiley wavey Jambo.
"You look a bit tense" he says at the next lights :)
Hmmm
London riding, its getting to me at the moment, but I know its just a passing phase.
I would have gotten the womans details and she would be getting a bill for lots of repairs to my bike - would have been able to get a new fairing out of it at least :)

He's a bit of a sod for doing that!!
Although I have gently nudged his rear wheel on a couple of occasions!!
Bad luck Grinch, glad to hear you're ok though. I hate it around there because all people seem to be worried about is getting to their trains.
(well apart from the dropping).
really? ;)

I feel your pain, same thing happened to me twice, once outside London Bridge, the other near rotherhite tunnel.
If anything its a good job you never bothered exchanging. It would come down to be your fault and they could claim from you.
As the law states, its your responsibility to stop (trust me, i totally understand your frustration!!!) and if the pedestrian is injured, someone has to blame, and its always whoever hits them. Even if it is completly the pedestrians fault.
Joke isn't it. Hey you walk straight out in front of my why don't you. I mean, its not like my 190kg bike doing 20mph won't injure you at all, your a superhuman..... So please do just walk straight out in front of me whilst that crossing is a massive 20m away from you
I take great care between Moorgate all the way past Tower BRidge (down tooley street) as people just are in "muppet" mode... Ipods in, but a rev of the engine and a loud parp of the horn and a loud shout so everyone heres what an idiot that pedestrian is, always does the trick. Either that, or carry on till you just nudge them till they jump  Its getting worse in London, just be glad you dont have to use the A2 with its nose to tail tailbacks from sun in the sands all the way past my junction, down to the A2/M2 split!!!!

Sorry to hear about this Grinch! Unfortunately it's one of those things about central London, and especially the city area cos the peds there are all extra mad and think that cos they've got lots of money everyone will stop!
I think I'd have taken details at least, but TBH with this sort of thing it's such a hassle trying to claim, etc that unless there's a lot of damage you may as well just live with it/sort it yourself.

I find I only go off like a rocket if I make it and stay on the bike, then the offender (never me of course;)) gets both barrels:smt071
The few times somebody has had us off (never a ped though), I have just been relieved to be OK, get the situation sorted, and start dreaming of big insurance payouts and faster bikes!
Glad the two of you are ok ...physically!..... It usually all goes bad for the road user if the ped had got injured no matter whose fault.
Maybe get one of those mad loud Fiamm or similar horns fitted to the bike to sort your head out and then let combat resume!;)

I'm glad I didn't do something incredibly stupid the other night in that case :(
I was driving down a local road, and up ahead I noticed one young lad on the left hand pavement facing his 2 mates who were stood on a traffic island to the right (positioned centrally in the road). I was doing 30mph (in a 30 zone), but when I saw their demeanour I started to slow down because I thought, "They are playing chicken with the traffic". The one on the left appeared to be laughing, whilst one of the kids on the right was leant forward looking like he was ready to run across the road at the last possible second (Darwin Awards thread starting to come to mind!) ... anyway I'm glad I did slow down, as the c0cky little tw*t steps out ... but to my astonishment he WALKS SLOWLY across the road causing me to brake harder and quicker, but at the last second, I almost ... ALMOST decided to accelerate and hit the little sh*t just to teach him a lesson.
Glad I didn't ... just beeped my horn at him ... but then drove off thinking, "I bet the AIM of their dangerous little game was to actually get me to beep my horn at them"
They won. Well done. One day they won't be quite so lucky!
(Especially if Mr-souped-up-Nova/Clio-driving-chav-maniac decides to cane it down that stretch of road - in which case the gene pool gets double discount!)
I think if I get time this weekend I might change the can over, then they may well hear me coming...

Good plan, though remember that half the peds are using iPods! These are a well-known method of protection from traffic, along with having a mobile phone against your ear... ;)

Yes, they are now known as iPeds - the i stands for ignorant in this case tho
I must also remember to use my horn more, I have a electric air horn after all.

sorry to hear of this grinchy. i would not have been that calm. i just can't help it!! have always been a red blooded male :smt040:smt093 i got hit in a car park not long after passing my test. managed to hold the thing upright thankfully, got off and proceeded to give the offending woman a large piece of my badly phrased mind. i was so mad i was shaking, i then proceeded to park up and go and play my hockey match, which by that time i was even more up for than usual :D
