I'll be there. Did it last year (and several other years), was probably the last bike to arrive at the start after sleeping in! I probably arrived about 2 minutes after the end of the video clip. Lets have a Border Patrol ride out to it. Come on guys is great fun!

Pedro has posted a thread in the Rideouts section, so lets keep this one for planing where Border Patrollers will meet for a ride in etc

I'll be there too!! Good opportunity to hone those low-speed riding skills ;-)
Oh and in my case, since I'm soooooooo close to New Brighton anyway, it will be a rideOUT and a ride in! Probably get some funny looks from bikers heading TOWARDS New Brighton as I head off in the opposite direction!
I don't mind a bit of a bimble down to Chester way to meet up with folk and then a bimble back up ... I'll find a suitable route if you'd rather not tonk it up the motorway (M53) ;-)

I should be there (I can't think of anything that would stop me going)
I will hopefully be there, my last night shift is the sat night, and was thinking of bringing one of me kids along if no one has any objections. In fact I may need to ask a favour nearer the time.

My suggestion is this:
Meeting point close to New Brighton (about 1.5 - 2 miles away) is Tesco car park, Bidston. We can fuel up there too.
Meeting point further away for anyone wanting a little bimble up the Wirral ... The Little Stanney pub car park (or if we have greater numbers, probably best off at Cheshire Oaks car park by Borders Books). It's central for just about most coming from Wales, Staffordshire way, and south Liverpool, Warrington, Manchester, etc.
My plan is to ride down to The Little Stanney and meet folks down there, and then take the scenic route back, most of which would actually be the egg run route but in reverse (almost).
Head back along A5117 towards Wales and turn right up Parkgate Road, through Neston, Thurstaston, West Kirby, Hoylake, Meols, Moreton, and arrive at Tesco car park to meet up with others and re-fuel.
I'll post a route up if that's what people want to do.
Also, depending how many replies we get to people wanting to meet up, may change start point to Cheshire Oaks car park.
My suggestion is this:

Won't the roads be closed?
Pedro68
20-01-08, 10:52 AM
not that I know of girth ... I've lived in and around part of the egg run route for many a year now and I don't ever remember them closing any (except for perhaps New Brighton start point) of the roads off at all ... It's always appeared to be a "if you go out on the egg run route, then you take your chance".
i've not done that stretch of the run myself before, so i will e-mail the organizers of the egg run and find out tho ;-) (unless someone else knows for sure?)

Am just forward thinking here and the egg run starts at 11am.... I`m assuming we`re gonna have to be there, say for 10.45 at the latest?? how long would your proposed route take Pete?? Just thinkin that if some folk ie. Mike and Quiff are coming from further afield what time would they have to be up to get there in time bearing in mind we`re probs gonna have to meet at Tesco`s in Bidston for around 10 ish to re fuel an say hi to everyone.
What about planning a ride for after the event stopping somewhere for food?
Pedro68
20-01-08, 12:37 PM
Claire you may be right ... my route would take approximately 30 mins. So folk would have to be at Little Stanney pub for no later than say 09:30 so that we could get to Tesco for 10am. It would only take me about half an hour to get down there, so I don't mind starting out before 9am to give me time to get down there and wait around for folks. I don't know who's planning on going, but from Quiff's neck o the woods I'd expect the journey to take just over an hour to get to New Brighton anyway, so they'd have to be looking to leave anytime between say 8 and 9am. A rideout with grub afterwards might be better (less time constrained). See what folks think/post ;-)
Speedy Claire
20-01-08, 12:57 PM
ok... thought it might`ve taken longer than that, no probs see what the further afield riders wanna do. I`m ok, will only take me 15 mins to get there :D

Where's The Little Stanney?
I like the sound of a bimble after the Egg Run with food at the end of the ride!
I'm happy to meet anywhere.

Top of me 'ead, I think the little stanney is just of the M53 near cheshire oaks in ellesmere port, if anyone,s coming over we could do the usual M56 chester services meet and go in to the stanney from there.
Pedro68
20-01-08, 04:10 PM
yeah Stewie, thats about close enough ... come off M53 for Cheshire Oaks (J10 I think) and then instead of heading into Cheshire Oaks itself you carry straight on over the roundabout towards North Wales, but about 500 yards down on the right is the pub.
Chester Services is just as good a meeting place tho ... and seems to be more well-known ;-)

It's NOT closed roads, you must be road legal and observe the speed limits etc. Check the 'The Rules' section of the Wirral Egg Run website.

The Stanney sounds good place to meet. Not sure about getting petrol at Tesco as it will be busting full of bikes, suggest anyone that needs to fuel up for the egg run fills up at Sainsbury's at Cheshire Oaks. It's right next to the main road so easy to find.
Speedy Claire
20-01-08, 07:48 PM
Probs a good idea Mike ... but if anyone does go to Sainsburys could you pick me up a loaf and some smoked bacon???
Speedy Claire
20-01-08, 07:49 PM
Even if we`re not doin a petrol stop can we still have a 2nd meet at Tesco`s.... its en route more or less and will enable the riders coming from the other direction a chance to at least say hi before we probs get split up during the actual run.
We need to organise a meeting point following the run as well
Luckypants
20-01-08, 10:28 PM
Well this is the problem now, with several threads running. I vote The Border Patrol meet at the Stanney, get fuel at Cheshire Oaks then ride to Tesco.
We should make Tesco the 'official' SV650.org meet for all groups coming in, not just The Border Patrol? So if everyone agrees with that, post that as the meeting point in the thread in the Rideout section?

Ok, seems like me AND Claire have posted up there now ;-) LOL
If everyone wants to get to Tesco by 10:30am, then I suggest we meet up at The Stanney pub no later than say 09:15am - 09:30am. This will give us enough time to fuel up at Sainsburys (and for Claire to get her loaf and bacon :D) and to get to Tesco's via the more scenic route ;-)
I'll try and post up a link to the route when I get a chance.
EDIT: Here's the link (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=8429950899827562920,53.261579,-2.882569%3B12724078707081237552,53.246988,-2.962285%3B3945986026090213392,53.292229,-3.036919%3B2711669417439189190,53.349170,-3.132560&time=&date=&ttype=&saddr=Stanney+La,+Little+Stanney,+Chester,+Cheshir e,+CH2+4HT+(Harvester)&daddr=A540%2FPark+Gate+Rd+%4053.246988,+-2.962285+to:A540%2FChester+High+Rd+%4053.292229,+-3.036919+to:Station+Rd+%4053.349170,+-3.132560+to:53.393157,-3.177795+to:CH43+7AA&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=4&sz=11&via=1,2,3,4&sll=53.337375,-2.98312&sspn=0.197208,0.462799&ie=UTF8&ll=53.306262,-2.975235&spn=0.197352,0.462799&z=11&om=0)

It's the day of my eldests birthday, so I'm out unfortunately.
Pedro68
22-01-08, 09:30 AM
I did the run in the car last night (on my way home from work - I wasn't quite sad enough to drive all the way down the M53 to The Stanney later in the evening).
The route isn't anything special, so if anyone was hoping for a bit more interesting/demanding/bendy/twisty roads, then shout now and I'll change the route (I know of other options, but passing thru sleepy little villages early Sunday morning may not go down too well with the locals ;-) )
It took me 45 minutes ... in a car ... in rush hour traffic.
So I reckon my estimate of 30 minutes on a bike, on a Sunday morning is about rightish (although I will check that again on the bike at a later date).
As for meeting points after the ride ... I guess that depends where we wanna go for food. There's always The Tap (as a meeting point), but I'm guessing it might be a bit chocka in there on the day. I'll do some digging and get back to you all ;-)
EDIT: If anyone wants to refuel on this route, there are plenty of petrol stations along the route.
Luckypants
22-01-08, 09:44 AM
I think you will need to factor in the fact that 5000-7000 bikes will be heading for the same place. :D Also your route seems to be very similar to the Egg Run Route (http://www.wirraleggrun.co.uk/route.html), but in reverse. This might cause a problem if we are late or if the Police stop traffic at junctions early.

Mike, yeah I know m8 ... but I'm banking on most of them using the M53 ... would you know if that has been the case in previous years? (it has seemed that way to me, but then past years I've not really ventured too far from Wallasey Village for obvious reasons).
As posted originally, most of the run IS actually the egg run in reverse ;-) well spotted  however, I can easily change it if we are running late and due to the fact that most of it isn't exactly an inspiring route, I'll post up an alternative, which we can use as primary or secondary (see what folk think).
Cheers for the heads up on that though ... I'll factor those things into my alternative route ;-)
Luckypants
22-01-08, 10:34 AM
Most probably do use the M53 / tunnels cos it is only a short hop off the motorway to the start at New Brighton. Arriving off the M53 takes you over the egg run route, so even arriving very late (like me last year) you don't get snarled up.
With regard to a meeting place after - does the Raby pub do food? Its not that far from Clatterbridge.
Speedy Claire
22-01-08, 06:16 PM
Pete...everybody heads for the Tap, doubt you`d get a parking place never mind served an they don`t do food either.
Pedro68
23-01-08, 11:47 AM
So ... Tap's out ... and Mac, I don't know if the Raby does food or not  but I could find out ... I'll also have a look around for alternatives ;-) (there's a McD's just a short ride away at the Bromborough Retail Park :-P)

I'll be there again this year. Gemma might even do it on her own bike this time too.. keep your eye out for a naked sv in yellow and a lime green speed triple!
I'll be marshalling so keep both wheels on the road unless i'm not watching ;)
Should be a good one.. last year was really good and the organisation was much better. A friend of mine, Simon Owen, helped to push the egg run forward last year and the team got the backing of the council and police. Sadly, Simon was involved in an accident whilst in the Lake District celebrating his 40th birthday... He didn't live to tell the tail but i'm sure the foundations he helped build last year, will help the run to get bigger and better this year :D

It took me 45 minutes ... in a car ... in rush hour traffic. So I reckon my estimate of 30 minutes on a bike, on a Sunday morning is about rightish (although I will check that again on the bike at a later date).
Just a quick update ... I took the bike out for a bimble down to The Stanney last night, rode the intended route in reverse, and back up again. Took me almost exactly 30 minutes (each way) :)
So meet up time at The Stanney is gonna be 09:15 - leaving no later than 09:30 so that we can be at Tesco's, Bidston for 10am. The run to New Brighton took me 2 - 3 minutes ... but if we need I'm sure we can afford to hang around at Tescos for stragglers for 15 minutes ;-)
Now just need to sort meeting place for AFTER the run. But I will post up details of that in the Rideouts section (since it's for everyone, not just the Border Patrollers).

It's amazing what a strong head-wind can do  you'd be surprised ;-)
Ok, what I actually meant (for the pedantic amongst us) is that I rode from New Brighton, down the egg-run route but instead of cutting off to Clatterbridge Hospital, I carried on down the Park Gate Road heading towards Chester and Cheshire Oaks, arriving at The Stanney (that took about 30 minutes). Then I rode the same route back to New Brighton. That again took about 30 minutes. I took it easy going through the town centres of West Kirby, Meols and Moreton. But opened it up going down Park Gate Road ... but I'm sure the bloody traffic lights down there are well timed to stop you picking up too much speed. No sooner had I picked up speed, there was another set of lights which seemed to be aimed solely at slowing me down. Still ... I suppose it gave me a chance to practice my emergency braking ;-)
One set of lights in particular was annoying, they changed as I approached (so I'm guessing they were triggered to change by my approach), but there was absolutely nothing coming from the road on the right :smt017 but even so, the lights still went through their cycle
Anyhooos ... was nice just to get out for a bit of a blast - even if it WAS bloody windy down that Park Gate road!
Speedy Claire
07-02-08, 01:33 AM
Nice logistics there! seriously tho you`ve done your homework, the meet up prior to the run is organised and timed so lets now try and come up with a meeting point for everyone for after the run.
The Wirral is your neck of the woods hun, can you think of anywhere? Tap will be over run are there any pubs with large car parks around the Clatterbridge area?
Pedro68
07-02-08, 09:30 AM
Ok, got a couple of "possibles" for the meet after the egg run, but I will ultimately need to know numbers as I'd like to phone the place(s) and make an advance booking, if I can, and also to give them some warning ;-)
Watch out for the poll ... coming soon!

What about heading back to meet up at the Stanney after the run? if we`re going for a bit of a ride afterwards we`ll no doubt be heading in that direction anyway, big car park and is easy to find from Clatterbridge. It looked like the sort of place that`d do food too

That's not a bad idea ta Claire ... guess it will be "en route" for a lot of people heading back home anyway, and I know they do food there - I've eaten there in the past. It wasn't great, but may have changed since I last ate there (about 2 years ago). Menu here (http://www.harvester.co.uk/our-menus/harvester-menu.html)

It`s now 11.48 and i`m still starving..... i`ve had 2 of those round cardboard caramel flavour things that resemble polystyrene but think i need to drag my work mates out for lunch :D
Pedro68
12-02-08, 02:12 PM
It's now 14:08 and I've had my lunch ... which consisted of a blast (and I do mean that almost literally!) down to Ears Superbikes in Macclesfield (on the Buxton Road) to get a new oil filter and some ear plugs, and a cheese & red onion roll (when I got back, obviously - not whilst on the bike). Beautiful day out there 8)
So just need to get myself sorted with some oil (and popping back tomorrow to pick up an oil-filter wrench), and I'm good to go on Saturday morning with the oil & filter change :) thought I may as well do it before the newbies and NW3 rides :)
Claire are those polystyrene things also known as crapper jacks?! I know they have flavour, but still like chewing on cotton wool (not that I'd know what that's like, but I can imagine) LOL

Pedro68
13-02-08, 09:55 AM
Yeah no later than 09:30 at The Stanney (as Claire said), and it's not an estimate ... that's how long it WILL take :) (give or take a few minutes obviously) ;-) LOL
Just depends on traffic ... and those damn traffic lights down Park Gate Road - I think the council just bought a job-lot on the cheap, and thought "now where can we stick these?" - wish they'd waited, I could have told 'em
Luckypants
13-02-08, 09:58 AM
Traffic will be heavy, due to so many bikes heading up to the start of the run. Filtering is not possible when all the traffic are bikes! :D
I'd say leave 9.30 sharp and devil take the hindmost. If you ain't there get yourself to the TESCO meeting point (for all other SVs) via the M53 ASAP.
