Take this for example.
http://www.chaoscrypt.com/sv/Jan07Off/RoverBalls.JPG
Taken from the Range Rover website, Safety and Security (http://www.landrover.co.uk/gb/en/Vehicles/New_Range_Rover/Range_Rover_safety_and_security.htm) section
I have proof that its not very true - want to see it?
http://www.chaoscrypt.com/sv/Jan07Off/small-1.jpg (http://www.chaoscrypt.com/sv/Jan07Off/small-1.jpg)
Seems that the "Commanding Driving Position" doesn't really have the effect that it "means potential hazards can be eaily sighted"
Yep, folks tried to sneak it in but in reality this is the "Soulkiss got SMIDSY'd" thread.
Basically heading south on the Brighton Road, in the Bus Lane, which is only in operation from 4PM to 7PM Monday to Friday.
Car going in the same direction in the lane to my right indicating to go left - so crossing my lane. So I continue, but slowing, and watching her like a hawk for any sign that she hasn't seen me and is going to turn across me, but all seems fine, and she stops, indicating her turn, so with right-of-way I contine, to leave her to turn after I am passed on the inside.
Except that the guy in the Range Rover coming the other way, also wanting to turn into that road has decided that the woman stopping is a signal to him to proceed to make his move.
Straight into my path.
Brakes on, Hit the front of him, back of the bike in the air, me over the bars, bike on the road.
Damage to the bike looks to be cosmetic - will find out more from Metropolis on Monday, but rough estimate is new fairing, mudguard, inner fairing, headlight unit, clutch lever, gear shift lever, and a coolant hose from the radiator to the engine.
Mr Jambo and some hanger on that I *think* I have seen at the odd Soho Massive meet (:P) came to have a look, and we got the thing running.
Decided that as the insurance will be sorting this one out, that taking it back to Jambo's for fixing would not be the best course of action, mainly because fixing it to get it home to send it to get fixed seemed like an awful waste of time, and that letting the insurance deal with picking it up and getting it to the repairers would be better..
So Monday morning I will see what I can do about getting a loan bike :) Wonder if they will give me one of them new B-King thingys.......
More pics HERE (http://www.chaoscrypt.com/sv/Jan07Off/)
Oh I walked away, nothing broken, going to have some nice bruises in the morning tho I think.........
Thanks to Jambo and Sarj for coming out

Bikes just metal and plastic.
Worst bit of it all was the part where I had to phone home and let the misses know....... Seriously considered giving up riding, even brought it up with her when I go home and asked her if she wanted me to give it up.
Still after she slapped me round the side of the head for asking stupid questions and getting an answer of "of course not", then things are fine - didn't have whiplash when I got in but the necks aching from that slap now :P
Thanks for all the replies folks - just remember that because you have one hazard under good observation, it doesn't mean that there isn't another one there.
Note to self - no more crashing !!!!!

They should re-write the Range Rover ad to say something along these lines i think.
The Range Roverīs acclaimed Command driving position provides its drivers with an elevated sense of self worth, confidence inspiring view of surrounding traffic and an all encompasing sense of safety when hitting anything smaller than another Range Rover. The improved visibility afforded by the Command driving position also means potential hazards can be easily sighted, ignored and generally bullied out of the way. After all your money not only buys you this big box on wheels but also the satisfaction of knowing other roads users fear your presence and all road rules no longer apply to you.
Comes with built in hands free car kit which can easily be disabled at the flick of a switch. After all you want everyone to see how important you are and how expensive your mobile is by holding it to your ear.
Be the best bully you can be, buy a big box on wheels.
David, gald you're ok mate and yeh...stop crashing now. I think you've proven you can do that well enough ;)

Glad you're OK Dave and that you don't appear to be hurt (although hold your horse on that one until at least tomorrow), and you're right bikes can be fixed or replaced.
Shouldn't think you'll have any worries insurance wise, but lessons to be learnt there?.
Hope you don't ache to much in the morning, I'll give you a bell
Cheers Mark.
Weren't we talking about this last night mate?
Glad to hear that you're ok though, you've got a good outlook on it :thumright:
Glad you walked away unharmed (apart from the slap!) Looks like the driver can't argue their way out of this one.
Glad your OK.
Andy
Like everyone else has said, so glad you walked away and are able to post about it. Hope everything goes smoothly with the insurance claim.
Turned up about 10 minutes after the event, we got the bike running again, then had a chat and decided there was little point bodging it back on the road if it was going straight to the dealers. Still, good to hear it run as it was doing nothing when we first tried....
David seemed in good spirits, even if he was fairly sure of some bruising that should be fairly pretty for tomorrow....
From an insurance point of view it should be pretty cut and dry in David's favour, he did all the right things getting witness statements, and evidence showing he was allowed to be in the bus lane at the time.
That said, he makes a point about viewing holes in traffic and stopping cars suspiciously! Observation and hazard awareness is something you can never be too good at...
First Soho off of 2008, a dubious honour, sorry mate!

That said, he makes a point about viewing holes in traffic and stopping cars suspiciously! Observation and hazard awareness is something you can never be too good at...
Thats a very good point, before christmas i narrowly avoided a free flying lesson as a drover in the lane to my left fflashed on a car awaiting to pullout of a road and turn right across my lane.I saw the driver flash him from the boot and number plate of the car in front, looked straight at the car in the road and he pulled out loking away from me [-o< BRAKES

Again, thanks to all, morning update.
Right leg above the knee is tight and sore in a bruised way, but no colour yet.
Left knee is feeling a bit tight across the knee-cap vertically, but only really noticable as I am actively looking for "hurty bits".
Slightly sore/bruised at the bottom of my rib-cage on my back, but again not a big thing.
The minor things, if taken out of the context of being post-off, I would say I would be more a sign of an oncoming bout of flu.
Mentally, well not put off at all, as said worst part of the day was the call home.

Ever so glad you walk away from this one SoulKiss, especially as it was one of those Urban Tanks.:)
However, and I hope I'm wrong, the first question his insurance company might ask is "What were you doing undertaking a car indicating left?"
She may well have not been aware of you and had stopped, not to let you past, but to allow the RR across the road.
Also, maybe, you were more focussed on her not coming across you rather than looking ahead and observing more of the road.
Ok, her positioning was all wrong as the Bus lane was not in force, but I think the insurance company may well think you were partly responsible for the accident.
Sorry for playing Devils Advocate, and I hope I'm talking out of my ar$e.

Me too :)
In answer - I was in a Bus Lane that was not active as a bus lane as was outside the active times.
Effectively this was a two lane road with me in the correct (left most) lane.
So it was the woman who was in the wrong lane - and in that situation I have the right of way.
She was aware of me, as she stopped instead of turning across, but I will concede I was paying a LOT of attention to her - its because of the "will she turn" that I was already slowing, expecting her to go.
Also if she had stopped/flashed the RR to cross, well its not her responsibility to direct traffic, and he should still have paid attention to what was going on.
Insurance co said on the phone that it sounded like a no fault claim, and I wont be accepting anything but.
All taken in the way you meant mate, but its open and shut.
There are also 2 witnesses to it - one was the driver that stopped, the other completely not involved as he was putting petrol in his car at the garage, and is, a biker.
Both of their details have been passed to my insurers.

Just look at the bulk of that RR against your SV. She should pick on something her own size!

21-01-08, 08:33 PM
The big problem is with "part-time" bus lanes.
That bus lane is only in use for 1/8 of a day, 5/7th of the days of the week.
That makes 15 hours out of 168 - so 5/56/th - so less than 1/8th of the time.
Yet, it gets painted red, signs every junction to remind you of when its in service or not, and in the case of this one, the bus lane divided in two, with the half nearest the pavement also marked up as a bike lane.
So this means that this situation arises, the woman in the car was very much in the wrong lane to make that turn, she should have been in the lane I was in.
But drivers are afraid to enter a bus lane as if they get the timing wrong it can be an cash expensive mistake with fines.
No excuses for anyone, but it is obvious how it can happen.
Bus lanes are a waste of time, especially the ones only for 3 hours in the morning and/or evening, as at that time cyclists are crowding the lanes, forcing buses into the non-bus lanes.....

I was given a CBF1000 loaner when my bike was off the road ... wasn't bad but wasn't exactly the most exciting bike to ride either. When the tax ran out I begged and pleaded to be loaned a CBR600RR, but they said their demo model of that was already out on loan :( so they gave me a new Hornet (the '07 one) instead - which wasn't actually a bad bike - except it was naked and the wind-blast was a pain in the neck (literally).

If you're lucky you'll get a ss600, but as these are more expensive to hire, its hardly mitigating your losses.

As you have a pointy - no. The injection can be a little snatchy at low speed like the pointy, unless it is serviced spot on. It is a lot heavier than the SV. Apart from that, watch your speed it's too easy to go fast as it is SO QUIET.

No I didnt bin it, its just I only live 4 miles from work :)
My thoughts
1) Its lower than the SV
2) Its wider than the SV
3) Its heavier than the SV
4) Its not a fun as the SV
Its a great bike, the suspension does everything it should and much more than the SV, same for the brakes, but I felt like I was riding a sofa home.
More to come after I get a chance to ride it a bit more.....
